Nope, THE school in Shreveport is Caddo Magnet. But they don't have football.

Kids that want to go Harvard, Yale, Brown, Dartmouth, Princeton, MIT, Rice, Stanford, Emory, etc.

As opposed to where you went to college, assuming you went to college.

I could've sworn that when Terry Bradshaw, Craig Bradshaw, Joe Ferguson, Stan Humphries and the Booty Bros were playin' in S'port they were considered instate, but hey, that was the dark ages...

Daughter Grad from Magnet. Grad with honors from UT in Austin. Thats all they think about. LSU very low on the list. They(LSU) have made big efforts for recruiting those kids in academics but dont know the results

I haven't heard of A.L. passing away but he's got to be pretty old now. His key to success was really pretty simple. In those days it was was unheard of to throw down the field on 3rd and 1.

Any QB will tell you that's their favorite situation to throw. He gave them that freedom.

Actually I am at LSU. This thread was about athletics (mainly football). We aren't talking about academics. But if you want to talk about academics, the reigning student of the year in Louisiana went to BYRD. And now he is at LSU. Could have went anywhere he wanted.

If you think Student of the Year in La. will get you into Harvard you're nuts.

they were alot like Highland Park here in Dallas is right now-an environment of sucessful parents that are used to winning in the business world.

I guess all the rich people fled the city.
Where did they go?

I've been there. Saw a nice pic of Doak Walker on the wall. Doubt if many students know what a huge star he was.

Actually quite a few national merit semifinalists come from Byrd and Captain Shreve. For people wishing to play anything other than chess, fencing, or soccer Caddo Magnet isn't an option. The magnet schools at Byrd and Shreve have had plenty of graduates go on to college at many prestigious universities. Magnet is no doubt a good school, but it's not the only school in the area offering kids a great chance at colleges. Now Evangel on the other hand is nothing but a glorified football camp. I really can't think of many Evangel players having sustained success past their high school years.

Actually, that's not true. Over the past 20 years Byrd averages one every 3 years. Shreve averages one every 5 years. Magnet averages 12 per year.

Doak Walker

I was lucky enough to have met Mr. Walker before he passed. I shook his hand before an SMU game at old Ownby Stadium.

He was talking up their program back when they had just started back playing after the "Death Penalty". I never met a celebrity like him who was nicer and more down to earth.
