The fact is, recruiting has become regional. so, most athletes try to stay as close to home as possible. some don't but they are the exception. It's the reason notre dame is no longer relevant. they don't have a recruiting base. they have to recruit nationally.
Secondly, when all things are equal, you stay home. it benefits you not only after graduation but while your in school as well. if you have trouble, girlfriend, school, or make a stupid mistake (like t-bob), the hometown provides a lot of support to help out. You're family gets to visit and watch you play as well. this is especially nice around the holidays.
there will always be kids that leave their state. it works out for some and we don't here as much about the ones that get homesick, transfer, quit, leave. ect. l hawkins, jason ledeaux, brian west, ryan mallet come to mind.
in this state, there really isn't anything more another program can offer a louisiana athlete than lsu. we have a pro team here where scouts stop by the school, on their weeks playing the saints, to evaluate talent. good education, great facilities, academic support, play in the best conference, play for one of the top programs in the country.

If we only took instate guys, we would never have had Mauck, Flynn, Addai, Brandon LaFell, D. Bowe, R. Dickson, Ali Highsmith, Brett Helms, Ben Wilkerson, Travis Daniels, Chevis Jackson, Ricky Jean-Francois, Ciron Black or Demetrius Byrd.
And this team wouldn't have T. Tolliver, P. Peterson, Sam Montgomery, Kelvin Sheppard, Ryan Baker, K. Hatcher, D. Calhoun, M. Brockers, S. Ridley, D. Minter, Joseph Barksdale, Greg Shaw, C. Loston, R. Sheppard or Kadron Boone.

GTFO & GFY. Some people shouldn't be allowed to reproduce.

Some argue that since LA is their homestate, high school football players should be loyal to their state and attend the flagship university (LSU) if offered- epscially if they plan to return to LA. Some might go as far as to say it is an obligation. I disagree and say that is foolish thinking. What say you?
It is a complicated question.
There are competing perspectives. Obviously, it is in the school's interest to lock down the state. The fans will naturally want to see this happen, also.
But to criticize the kid? Call him a traitor? I don't know about all that. I don't like what goes down with the Joe McKnights and the Luther Davises.
Each kid has to make the best choice for him. Some kids are smart about it and weigh all the many many considerations. Others fall for a recruiting pitch. Some are dead set on a particular school from the beginning and never waiver. Some just know they want to leave because they don't like their hometown or had a rough upbringing. You never can tell. Everybody is different.
It isn't wrong for LSU fans to want the home state kids, and the notion is perfectly explicable. There is no other flagship school. Most Louisianans love Louisiana, and can't understand why one would want to leave. We are actually good at football now. It all makes sense.
That said, it also isn't right for fans to do what some do to kids who choose to leave. Gotta let them go. Gotta understand the kid is trying to do what is best for him.

As a general observation, Louisiana produces a lot of running backs, wide receivers, defensive linemen, and defensive backs.
We produce some quality QBs from time to time (Jefferson, Perrilloux) but those numbers are very limited.
We go out of state for offensive linemen (this year is loaded, though) and linebackers.
Again....these are major generalizations. Exceptions are frequent.

Kids have access to the internet and they can easily look at depth charts and know what their chances are of starting. How can you go wrong with choosing a team that has recently won a national championship? LSU, Florida and Alabama would be a great choice if they are offered a scholarship. LSU just signed a stable of good young receivers and they already have a commitment from a superstar in the making. He made his decision with the advice of some good people who are looking out for his best interest.

I say no because I'm in the military and when I have a son there is a chance I won't be in Louisiana for his grade schooling... And I'll be damned of he's not a Tiger one day.

I'd let them go wherever they wanted to go. It's their life, not mine.

You're lying to yourself if you honestly believe this.

No. Why would they want to do that?

I say LSU should at least always be considered, and since youre such a USC fan ,didnt even have to read what your answer was. Thats why you started this thread. Its like saying Guillblow has a man crush on saban, goes without saying.

Does this count for 3 stars as well. My point being insert any state and coach in the nation. They are going to go after the best players in the nation because he needs the best talent and fit to keep his job. LSu/Bama/AU take your pick are only so loyal to these kids so they dont owe the state schools anything. How many "conditional" offers do you think LSu and Alabama are giving out after their NC season to instate kids when like in ALabama this yr there is better talentr to be found.

Anyone who answers differently needs to let their kids grow up and make their own decisions.
Are you planning on going to your children's job interviews, choose who they marry, and tell them where to live so they make decisions to make you happy?

so your kid comes to you and says, i'm thinking of jumping off a bridge, dad. you're response is, well it's your life, go for it, i just want you to be happy!
Point, it is their life. your roll as a parent doesn't end when they become 18. you are always there for guidance/direction.
i wouldn't tell my son or daughter where to go or what to do. I would, however, present the advantages and disadvantages, of their thought, for them to make their own decision. A parent is older, wiser, and has experienced many more things in life. why not use and provide that knowledge?
some parents will think of themselves and some think of the kid. it will always be that way. because a kid chose an o.o.s. school, doesn't reveal if that was HIS decision. How do you know the parent wasn't looking out for their own interest by going to an o.o.s. school? example janzen jackson.

Going to Alabama instead of LSU, or ucla instead of USC for me, is not the equivalent of jumping off a bridge. However it seems like some on here may equate it to that.

Agree completely. But making decisions for, instead of guiding your child to make their life decisions, are two different things. You seem to have a similar ideology to mine.
Unfortunately there are many who are not that objective.

It's a moot point in my opinion. LSU gets a large percentage of the Louisiana 4 and 5 star athletes ANYWAY. But we have also signed some out-of-state blue chippers from all over the country in the last decade.
To paint millions of LSU fans and alumni as all crying because we lost one wide receiver; when in reality it was what - 20-30 posters on Tiger Rant, is obscenely juvenile and moronic.
Should all Cali blue chippers go to USC ?
Oh that's right I forgot, most of them are illegal anyway.

Don't forget about the Tennessee Creamsicles! If I'm not mistaken, they have the highest recruiting budget of all the SEC schools -- nearly everyone there is out-of-state.

I can't disagree with any of this. On the bright side I got 15 years or so until my oldest hits NSD. I'm pretty sure by then Miles and Crowton(and even Saban) will be gone.
