Heating up on 5 star recruits

Shea Dixon has a good talk with On3 here to talk about potential 5-star recruits for LSU. Really good insight, and I think we can pull a couple by signing day.

I'm optimistic about a lot of guys but Bussey setting his commitment date for the 28th and visiting us on the 23rd just feels like a dude getting his last "5 star treatment" before the recruiting process is over.

Hope I'm wrong though.

Yeah it seems no one is confident he picks LSU unless something drastic happens. Disappointing that we keep losing battles to A&M in this class, especially since they have nothing on the field to sell.

It would suck to lose out on bussey with him being elite. Thing is, it's not like he is from LA.

I just hope they close strong

I think lsu finishes #10 in recruiting this yr...they already at #8 with other teams signing higher ranked guys. Unless lsu runs the table and makes the playoffs and guys flip...I just don't see it for them but #10

Class is “meh” (on paper).
Not just stargazing, but from things I’ve read from posters who have watched different recruits. I know. I know. “I trust the coaches”. Just lacks oomph.

Supposing the current trend continues for A&M? That is, they have highly ranked recruiting classes but don't win the division (especially 8 wins or fewer)?

At what point do their boosters realize the spending on recruitment is wasted until they have a new head coach?

I don't begrudge the recruits making money but you have to think winning SEC games and developing for the NFL is going to make the university realize what they are doing just isn't working

Cuz they aren’t selling, they’re buying.

Not everyone is pessimistic on Bussey. We have a very good shot there

This is pretty infuriating…we really need to be top 5 to truly complete.

We're already 10th on 247 and On3.

Clemson, USC, and Texas are all behind us on both sites with a ton of targets left on their board as they all have far fewer commitments than us.

Auburn is only a few spots behind us with 18 commitments and have a good chance to pass us as well.

There's a decent chance we fall out of the top 12 on both sites after early signing day, unless we close with 4-5 top ~200 guys.

We’ve never really averaged top 5 classes consecutively. Yea you can say 2019-21 but over 70% (just an estimate) of those guys transferred or never made an impact.. While I agree we absolutely need the 5 stars there’s also cases where the La talent or coaches scouting prevails over the industry rankings

This class of 2024 does fill a lot of holes besides interior d line. Not sure I see many instant impact starters. Perhaps Cai Bates at corner and Deshawn McBride at safety? Lot of developmental high upside guys that the staff thinks highly of.

I hope LSU can pull a defensive lineman (or two), either 4 or 5 stars.

It sounds like most of the other position areas are being addressed very well so far.

Most people don’t realize this but they’ve basically had top 5 recruiting classes every year since 2019, along with the GOAT recruiting class in 2021, and they still look like hot dog water on the field. They can’t get any more talented than they already are.

Their problem is that not enough kids buy into their weird bullshite and want to participate in it for 4 years, so they’ll never retain enough talent year over year to be elite. Top 5 classes don’t matter when you’re setting transfer-portal-exodus records every year

It’s not the HC. Bear Bryant couldn’t win anything notable at that cult shithole

Yes but we need to start…ND has a higher ranking than us and BK came here to get better recruits. It’s mildly infuriating
