Scholarship numbers might be tighter than we initially thought..

So now that we have a little bit better picture of who is staying/leaving, I ran some numbers. I can't guarantee that this is all 100% accurate because even figuring out exactly who is on scholarship is not as easy as one would think. That said, here's what I came up with..
Scholarship Players Returning + Commits (80)
Scholarship Players Leaving (22)
Scholarship Status TBD (7)
Now, I'll be the first to admit that there may be errors here. So please feel free to correct me if any of this looks incorrect. But assuming my numbers are correct, that means we have:
- 56 scholarship players returning.
- 24 high school recruits or transfers signed.
- 80 total returning, or 77 if all 3 of my "assumed" guys turn out to be wrong.
- Call it 77-80 2022 scholarships that are "likely."
- Another 7 scholarship players who are TBD.. 3 of them are in the portal, 2 are unclear on whether they are returning, and 1 (Pig Cage) might be a candidate for a walk on scholarship.
- Call it 7 more 2022 scholarships that are "possible."
- Another 8 signing spots, given the one-year blanket waiver.
- Call it 8 more 2022 scholarship offers that are "available."
Even if all of my "assumed" guys who I show coming back are wrong and all of my "TBD" guys leave, that still puts you at 77 plus 10 available spots. With the self-imposed penalties from 2020, our scholarship cap for 2022 is 81 total.
Am I crazy, or are we basically looking at a full roster next year? It's kind of blowing my mind to be honest but as far as I can tell it looks legit.
EDIT w/ the following changes:
- Added the 4 walk ons awarded in 2021.
- Moved Moffitt to "leaving."
- Added Wingo and Shorts.
- Added the "class" in parenthesis for transfers. Note that this is purely based on what year they started college, not their actual eligibility. If a player started college in 2019, I counted them as a junior in their third year (2019, 2020, 2021). However, they are probably only a SO or maybe even a RS-FR for eligibility purposes, between the COVID year and any redshirts they have received. I did not vet each transfer player's actual eligibility.

That offensive line
Also, RB room is full. Someone HAS to break out this year you’d think.

Mekhi Wingo? Tre'mond Shorts?

I should add that not all of the guys I have listed as “returning” are officially confirmed. Basically if an underclassmen hasn’t entered the portal (or there’s no smoke about him entering the portal) or declared for the draft.. I have to think he’s coming back at this point. Guys like Moffitt and Fonua are just unclear because they’ve been here forever and already have degrees.

Do you realize how long it took to dig this shite up?

I guess you’ll have to forgive me for leaving off the two guys that committed this morning.

That's GREAT news.
For a while we were hoping and praying to even fill a whole team up. With all these new transfers coming in, we might actually end up being alright in the end.

Ah didn’t realize that.
So that’s one down. I’m sure there are probably others.

Todd Harris. It feels like he's been here since the Les Miles era.

I think we're going to field a respectable team that will take a few weeks to gel and could end up winning 8 games, which is pretty fricking incredible considering our turnover of coaches and players and where we were in the Texas Bowl.
I just can't wait to have a well-coached team. We might be a bit short on talent and experience as a unit, but we probably won't miss assignments or make knucklehead mistakes very much. That beats people.

Aaron Moffit is definitely gone, he wasnt even really on the team this year because he physically wasnt able to play. With dad gone, he's gone.

It appears I’m also missing some additional walk ons who were awarded this past season.

Is TE Jack Mashburn on scholarship or a walk-on? Thanks
Posted on 1/18/22 at 12:38 pm to whitec477
Mashburn was put on scholarship last year along with Nick Demas (Fr. RB), Spencer Payne (Fr. OL), and Evan Francioni (Jr. WR)
Year to year thing if LSU really wants to play dirty. And I do imagine the attrition is not over yet for LSU

I think some of those just wont be renewed next year. Mashburn might retain his and I can see Pig Cage getting one. But this is a new staff with different limitations and circumstances. Highly likely we pick up another 2-3 HS recruits and another handful of transfers which will put us very close to the 81 limit.

He was offered by Les on April 28, 2015. He old.
