Possible hiring of Pat Surtains dad to gator staff. Rumor started by their local radio host.

It is legal to still do it if they name him as DB coach. Just cant do it if they hire him as a shadow staff member.
Its a real threat but there is also talk that Surtain Sr. has said he wont coach his son in college and wont be bought to bring his son along.

Correct. So long as it's not some special title created to lure the recruit, it'll be fine to hire his father as a DB position coach. Hiring his dad as a "General Manager" like what Austin Thomas is on our staff, that wouldn't be allowed. Landon Collins girlfriend getting that job in the athletic department comes to mind as a good example

Actually got the full details of the rule yesterday. You can’t hire to the shadow staff but if you hire them as a full staff coach then the kid can still attend. Makes sense to protect innocent situations but if you hire the dad as one of 10coaches then you are safe

According to Orgeron, the special teams coach has already been hired and officially starts when the 10th assistant goes into effect in January.
Surtain Sr. could be our OLB coach to replace Meatball, though.
