Safety theory

A lot of chatter about us waiting on at least 1 Safety that have yet to finish their season or may have just finished. Some have even hinted we may have a silent commitment.
Reasonable options:
DEREK WILLIAMS — Not hard to see this one. Injured and may be trying to get a ring / fulfill his NIL obligations at Texas before making a move.
XAVION ALFORD — All Big 12 1st Team at Arizona St and one of the highest rated secondary players in this year’s playoff according to PFF. Was an LSU target out of Houston area (originally signed with Texas). Bounced around to USC too.
ISAIAH NWOKOBIA — All ACC 1st Team at SMU, from Skyline HS in Dallas.
JALEN CATALON — Better than Greg Brooks when they played together at Arkansas. Surprised LSU didn’t get in on him the last couple times he was in the portal. He’s a missile when healthy. Third Team All American this year at UNLV.
JACOBY MATTHEWS — I know it’s been reported that LSU isn’t in contact but he made some interesting tweets during the season. Common sense says he’s in play.
CALEB DOWNS — Unlikely but we are slinging bags right now so if there really is a big shakeup coming in Columbus then who knows.
Miss anyone?

We aren’t gonna be going after Matthew’s in my opinion

Yes, the other 5 threads about it.

That safety from UNLV sounds enticing, but this is the first time im hearing about him

Does he want to walk on? Why would we waste a scholarship on someone who hasn't played in a year and flaked out at his old school, while spurning his hometown team in the process?

With the season he had in 2024 playing against a lower tier of athlete and his extensive injury history, if Catalon has any remaining aspirations of playing professionally, now may be the most opportune time to try the NFL. Draft prospects would be on the lower end of the scale, but further injury in college may derail any remaining NFL hopes.
IMO, Catalon is too injury prone and wound up in the Mountain West Conference for a reason after leaving Texass. A reconstructed shoulder is too risky for most schools and a huge red-flag.
Following excerpts from Burntorangenation.com article BON article
2021 and 2022 Arkansas
Season-ending injuries derailed Catalon’s ascent to becoming an NFL Draft prospect. In 2021, Catalon played in six games due to a shoulder injury before opting to return to Fayetteville, but suffered another shoulder injury in the 2022 season opener that required reconstructive surgery.
2023 Texas
The decision ends Catalon’s time on the Forty Acres after less than a year even though Texas is set to face Washington in the College Football Playoff semifinals on Jan. 1 in New Orleans. It was another injury-plagued season for the Mansfield Legacy product, who appeared in eight games with 17 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one forced fumble. Catalon started four of the first six games for the Longhorns before suffering a lower-leg injury in the loss to the Sooners in the Cotton Bowl that caused him to miss the next four games. Against Iowa State and Texas Tech, Catalon made one tackle in each game before failing to see the field in the Big 12 Championship win over Oklahoma State.

Catalon is an excellent player but he as missed more games than he has played I believe...

IDK what his future holds. He’s been quite the unique circumstance.

This Jacoby Matthews shite is other worldly. What is the fricking deal with some of you retards so obsessed with him

Have you seen our safety’s play
Fact: Catalon has had multiple seasons now during his college career that were far better than any from the guys we have

I’ve wondered if Xavion Alford was in play. LSU recruited him out of HS, but he only has 1 yr remaining.

I remember he had some honey badger-like tape in HS

He dam sure ain’t waiting til his team loses in the playoff.
Why would Caleb Downs leave Ohio State?
Catalon maybe but he’s not in playoff
Alford would be tampering?!?
Nwokobia got throttled in playoff, and played weakest schedule except the 2 losses, is true All ACC
This isn’t directly to you Creamofcsoup, except agreeing w/ DW post- the rest is to the OP

Alford and Derek Williams are the two imo
Posted on 12/22/24 at 5:59 pm to burreauxxx
Please tell me because I only got to watch 1-2 regular season Texas games. Was Derek Williams not a starter? I know I seen him early on and played last year but I remember injury

Definitely was a heavy contributor but not sure he was officially starting. Either way a young guy they were excited about moving forward so would love to add
