I thought Dwight McGlothern was moving to Safety?
I would think he’s a safety in college. You just hope he has or develops the physicality needed to tackle at the safety position.
Worst case scenario is John Battle’s senior season performance as a tackler.
But McGlothern has better instincts and ball skills than Battle.
So yeah, I like McGlothern’s potential at safety.
Doesn’t have the fluidity to play CB.

The other talented guys are Brooks and Stevens who are hybrids
Judging by Coach O’s comment about “having no choice” but to put Brooks at LB makes me think he wanted Brooks at Safety.
Pretty sure everyone thought we recruited him as someone who would develop in to an OLB, but maybe things changed when Aranda and his defense left. I don’t know.

So what is going on with Kendall McCallum? Coach O raved about signing him, said he is a real thumper.

That’s what I’m sayin. Not incredibly thin though. But we definitely need some guys to step up at DE
Cherry would be the perfect candidate to do so

It appears DE is incredibly deep to me. Same with DT. How deep do you think we need to be?

He wants 7 per.
He Thinks it won’t come at a cost to another position, apparently.
Someone explain the 85 limit to him.

We might be thin at DE with guys that we (fans) have seen produce but, to hear CEO say it, we have plenty of talent about to step up now that they have the chance, especially Andre Anthony.
As far as Safety, I think K Vincent will start at FS to begin his NFL marketing campaign and, probably, Harris gets first shot at SS. Just my opinion, of course; I think we’ve got plenty of CB talent to take over the slot, primarily Flott. Raydar on the outside with backup coming from Ward, Ricks, and McGlock.
Also, depending on the package, Jacoby rolls back up to Safety, pairs with Harris or Hampton while Vincent covers the slot.
I think we’ve got enough talent to make several scenarios work. As mentioned, next year is a different story. But as was written prior to the start of the ‘19 campaign, “ LSU loses an All-American cornerback and a senior stalwart safety to the NFL, along with a former blue-chip prospect to transfer, yet still returns one of the deepest and most talented backfields in the country. From the standard set by Corey Webster and escalated by Patrick Peterson, defensive backs coach Corey Raymond, now helped out by safeties coach Bill Busch, has assembled a group of talent that includes the nation’s best defensive player and a freshman corner considered the best ever evaluated by 247 Sports.” - Billy Gomila
DBU is the least of my concerns.

Pressure DEs do look like a weakness for this team on the cuff. Just no experience and 100% a wildcard.
But it’s unlikely that position becomes available through the transfer portal at a level LSU wants.

DE- experience and depth 2 different things.
I’m more concerned at LB.
Clark has to be that thumper in the middle or we are in trouble. Other LB need to learn to fill and tackle, not the same as playing olb in 3-4.

Not as thin as they appear. Also McGlotheren and Toles are both true freshman and will beef up quickly once they get moffitized. Don't need to weigh 220 lbs to be a solid college level safety.

now that i think about it, i don't know if we will ever take another transfer player that plays a skill position (DB or WR) after giles and alexander

Pressure players. We don't have any established pass rushers so we are likely going to have to bring numbers when we want to get after the passer
Luckily, we have some cover guys. But it's not ideal. You hope guys like Roy and Ojulari can come to hand quickly

We are used to having a freshman break out in that Rush End spot (A Key then Chaisson) who then plays for three years, even if production did drop off a bit after that Freshman year. So this will be an interesting year to see what happens. While we don’t have the experience there, we didn’t then either when both of the previous two were Freshman.
Maybe one of the two new guys (Webb or Ojulari) will step in to be the next Freshman up. CEO mentioned that Anthony has made a ton of progress so we might go the other way and have a 5th year Senior go at it.
I’ll say this, besides K’Lavon’s last few games, the D-Line pass rush can’t be much worse than it was last year. I actually think it will be better. But, as everyone agrees, someone currently unexpected will have to show up.
The history of the position and the talent on the team ease my concerns significantly at Rush End.
And, just two years ago we were freaking out, for good reason, that we didn’t have any LB depth and still, it’s been a while since LB wasn’t a strength of our defense. What...maybe since DJ Welter was starting in front of Beckwith?
While I don’t know who will man the middle, I do think we have the talent there for someone to fill in just fine. It will just have to be a next man type of year. But, we seem to consistently find that man.

Stevens and Harris will take about 75% of the snaps at safety
