this would be a huge get. Really the last piece needed to put together a contending team IMO.

Huuuuuge. Perkins on the outside with Speights and Penn will be nice. You add in Cistrunk, and with West Weeks and his brother rotating in as well. I had no doubt in the alignment, there was always a plan

Wow it’s almost like we have adults in charge who recognize needs and then fill them. Alignment is real

Would be a heck of an add considering Penn and Perkins are your 2 guys at LB. Maybe they continue to move Perkins around a lot or go to more 3 LB sets to entice Speights here

Speights and Penn would rotate out, and in some situations both be on the field with Perkins at Jack

We've had Mr. Speights in the conversation since last Thursday on the Portal sticky.
First brought up by lsufan0582. Mr Wise Guy had a real good thread about him on this board.
I'm on the record as a "yea" vote.

If we close him we'll have beaten Bama straight up for a top-end linebacker, which is a significant mile post in the development of our program.

And he would give you that crucial 3rd linebacker who allows you to free-lance Perkins in 3-3 or 4-3 sets. It's a huge pickup and it largely finishes your defense other than maybe a depth piece or two.

I think he's from Philadelphia, not Oregon, so I don't know why he'd want to flip to the instate rival when he's not local.

Tackle to tackle scraper to go along with Perkins playmaking in space. I don’t love LSU’s version of a 4-2-5 with how perkins fits in it but having someone who can move inside the box is the first step towards making it work

I think Perkins will take over a more traditional role thisnyear when he isn’t pass rushing and spying.

You obviously still want him doing those things and then also playing more LB.

I'm gonna kinda/sorta disagree, Sam.
I think he is gonna just blur out the traditional position schemes and responsibilities.
He will play a postition all his own called the "Perk". The defense will line up according to what CMH wants to see happen by HP40.
You could have four hands in the dirt and 40 lined up in 2 deep and when the ball is snapped he comes and the edge drops while his side CB blitzes and HP40 is a spy going to the hot read.
Could have a 3 down w/EDGE - 2 LB (one being HP40 going god knows where) - then any number/variation of the DB's that fits the scheme to back up HP40.
What I'm saying is I believe this guy is a generational player that will make calling a base of anything a 4-2-5, or 3-4, or 4-3, etc... obsolete.
It may start to look like a 4-2 but Perkins will be nowhere near where he is supposed to be from the offense's perspective.
House will feel like he's preparing an NFL defense with a bigger/deadlier version of the Honey Badger!
One thing is for sure - trying to describe what's going on by the analyst announcers will make them look even worse than they already do.
