So an LSU guy goes up against a UGA guy in Atlanta and has a better shot?
for most of the "real" world, his shot is going to depend on experience, accomplishments, professionalism, work ethic, etc, vs. whether he went to UGA, or Auburn, or LSU. There are LSU grads working all over the world...

Also I'm not saying these guys won't have jobs. They can thrive and Florida and Texas and Alabama, hence the "you better enjoy living in gainsville/tuscaloosa" comment. But these guys a lot of the time end up missing LA and come running back and can't find a job. Listen to the show if you can, he is giving example after example.

Agreed. No kid who is a highly-touted athlete gives a shite about a possible sales job when he's 30.

Wrong - 69 grad been working in Alabama for 25 years
And you entered the job market as a 25 year old man of color with 3/4 of a sports management degree.
Right?

Warrick Dunn has done a ton for the BR community and there is a lot of emotional connection to him. He is an outlier.
Plus, LSU was a terrible program when Warrick was coming out of HS.
Not like today, where LSU is one of the top 5 programs in the country.

LA and BR fondness of Dunn also has a lot to do with the murder of his mother.
It's really an outlier case.
Well, let's take his case. Dunn played for the Atlanta Falcons and now owns a minority stake in the team (owned by Arthur Blank). He got his business degree from Emory University and has helped many in Atlanta as well with his foundation which partners with Home Depot (Arthur Blank again). I hope those who are skeptical can see how this might work.

no, the assertion was made that the "professionals" have the same problems getting jobs in other areas, he was refuting that point. I don't think anyone disagrees that an under-qualified former athlete has a much better shot getting a job locally.

Some of these kids can barely string together enough words to form a sentence, you can't expect them to think about life after football. They all think they're the next big star, mostly because that's what everyone tells them from a young age.

He basically said if you want to get out of the state thats your right but you're not going to be able to come back and get a job. You better not get hurt and you better make it in the NFL (which stands for not for long) because you can't come back thats the way it is. He said you better want to live in Gainseville or Tuscaloosa. Cited Chase Clement who got a job at a construction company. On the other end cited a friend of his who went to A&M and couldn't get a job back in Louisiana. Made a joke saying "I'm and idiot and I run one of the best restaurants in the area".
This is absolutely idiotic and should be frowned upon.

No its not, and no it shouldnt be. Its the truth and if you dont believe it youre naive.

I do believe it, but it's just an absolutely idiotic reason to not hire someone.

People who disagree with this dont see all the former players of all sports with kush sales jobs throughout the state. The state is littered with former players from benchwarmers to starters.. The question and one I surely dont know the answer to.. Is it the same in other states eg; Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, and the like.. I would be willing to guess to a point...yes.. Buts its probably easier for the hometown/state kid to find a job.

Im not saying people will say "You went to AM, I wont hire you." But lets be honest here, a lot of these kids arent exactly the most well spoken and educated kids in the world. When football is done with them, and I've seen it first hand, business owners who are TAF donors in LA will "create" a position for a former LSU football player. They wont do that for a guy who went to TAMU or Bama.

All very true, but not many 18 year olds are considering what they're going to do at 35. They think they'll make millions in the League, if they think about it at all.
every single one of these kids thinks they're going to be 10x Pro Bowlers.

It might be the truth, but I don't think it makes any particular point. Every decision that every recruit makes potentially closes some doors and opens others.
Take any one of Bama's recruits, regardless of where they're from, and tell them, "I hope you like Tuscaloosa, cause it will be hard to get a job in Baton Rouge if you need one." They won't care. They do like Tuscaloosa.
The ones that leave Louisiana want to leave Louisiana. They're replaced by out-of-state guys who want to come here and develop roots. It goes both ways.

Exactly how I would put it. These guys aren't going to be exiled or treated like shite by rational people, but ex-LSU definitely will set you up like you wouldn't otherwise.

Not what he said, hes talking about coming back to La., the UGA guy would have the advantage in Ga.

I see it here in Austin a lot . Not that you wouldn't get a job but UT takes care of it's own . Especially Ex players.

When you are 18 years old and you've beat everybody's butts at a game you've played your whole life, your family will place demands on you to go for the big bucks in the NFL.
For the 5* kids, they can go out of state and make it to the NFL. That does not mean they will. The 5* mentality that I will make it and need to do what's best for me and my family is what drives these kids to pick schools on 1. Early playing time and 2. systems that fit their skill sets.
For the 2-3* kids, if they get an in-state offer, they better jump on it. Odds are, they won't make it to the NFL and will need a fall back plan.
