They wont do that for a guy who went to TAMU or Bama.

Nor should they. These kids have the right to go anywhere they want to play ball. The business owners have the right to hire who they want. To not hire someone because of where they went to school is absurd. But the owners taking care of former players is to be commended. The athlete chose to go somewhere else and should not expect a handout from the place they left. In addition to wanting to play ball in another state, the expectation is that the recruit needs to have a desire to live there. If they are too short sighted or just plain dumb enough to not understand this then that falls on the family and his advisers. Unfortunately, too damn many of these folks are only looking out for their best interests and not the recruits.

Yea.. Warrick Dunn is a prime example

Warrick Dunn is an exception not the rule. Went to Catholic High, has connections and super involved in the local community. Also went to FSU when LSU was an absolute mess.

Ruffin speaks the truth. I have friends who played for Tulane when it mattered. They lied when making sales visits and said they went to LSU to get the meeting.

He basically said if you want to get out of the state thats your right but you're not going to be able to come back and get a job. You better not get hurt and you better make it in the NFL (which stands for not for long) because you can't come back thats the way it is. He said you better want to live in Gainseville or Tuscaloosa. Cited Chase Clement who got a job at a construction company. On the other end cited a friend of his who went to A&M and couldn't get a job back in Louisiana. Made a joke saying "I'm and idiot and I run one of the best restaurants in the area".

Not reading 10 pages of this, but if it's been posted already forgive...but, this is EXACTLY what our boy Nick Saban was known to tell in-state recruits back when he was here. There has got to be some record of that, be it print or video...no doubt he said it and often. Anyone else remember that? Or even better...ask some of those highly ranked guys from LA who were pulled in by a Saban...Marcus Spears, Mike Clayton, Andrew Whitworth, etc...let them tell recruits what's up.

Wouldn't that make for a wonderful rebuttal for anytime Nick comes into LA to try and yank out a player? Nick's own words telling them why they ought to stay?

People like Ruffin make all Louisianians look backwards. This is a global society and this guy is talking about kids staying in their home state?!

The global society argument doesn't really hold for kids who are barely literate and have no marketable skills other than the fact they were good at chasing an oval-shaped pigskin around from the age of 18 to 22.

Sure that's cynical view, but don't tell me that it isn't true for 75-80% of the guys.

Exactly, add the story of his mother getting murdered in BR and everything he's done for the BR community during his time in the NFL and there you go, he'll always be welcomed with open arms here as he should. It's stupid to try and use him as an example, he's clearly an exception. But I can promise you, he's not going to have too come here or anywhere else begging for a job

Whoever said the global society thing is retarded. Even if that was remotely relative to this situation, the rest of the world does not give two shits about college football recruits.

I used to enjoy reading the board for real information, but now it is nothing but bickering and wisecrack comments. It has become totally useless. Most of you guys are idiots. I think half of you are not really LSU fans. I think a huge number of you don’t know the real world or anything about college sports. Most of you just want to criticize what someone says or ridicule a poster and not offer any information or add anything to the conversation. You criticize our coaches (DB coach, line coach), our players (most recently a true freshman quarter back in his first start comparing him to red shirt freshmen who have started games and practiced with the first team), make comments about recruits parents (most memorable someone’s mother) and expect recruits to come to LSU. Saban was right LSU people never have any thing positive only negative.

frick Yeah.

You wouldn't hook up Patrick Peterson or Craig Davis? Matt mauck? Flynn? Jarret lee? How about ron brooks or Kevin minter? In other words, speedy and Willis will have no problem finding a job in Alabama, Florida.

FTR, I agree with him I just don't think it's true.

The better comparisons would be RJ Jackson, Jalen Collins, Barrington Edwards, Evan Washington, Jarvis Jones, Kadron Boone, and Ryan Baker.

Everyone you named besides Lee has played in the NFL, and that's not what Rodrigue is referring to. Also, isn't Davis from New Orleans?

If O.P. Walker is still in New Orleans, yes.

And I think you're correct. He's talking about guys who, for whatever reason, don't become superstar household names. Guys that are clearly known for having played, but whose playing days essentially end on Senior Day in Tiger Stadium. THOSE guys are clearly better off staying in state and being able to cash in on their relative fame after their playing days are over.

Yeah. What "opportunities" exist in Louisiana that can't be had in any other state?

It's not limited to louisiana but aside from Texas, the oil and gas industry is one of the most prominent in La. I've worked with a lot of former LSU athletes who wouldn't have gotten certain positions if they weren't LSU players. Nicely put, they weren't that intelligent. This includes "no names" who the casual fan would have never heard of...

Not saying this only happens in la, but it happens a LOT here.
