Next year LSU can sign the top DT in the country (McKinnley Jackson), but we have to give him 2 scholarships to get him to campus.

Upvote if you take this deal now...downvote if you do not.

I use 2 scholarships in either year, 2019 or 2020, if it gets me the #1 DT in the country.

It’s not a given LSU will actually sign Jackson. A brid in the hand is worth two in the bush.

IMO, if LSU has to pay for Sopsher with TWO scholarships while the "price" at another school is only one, then that tells you where the kid really wants to be. Bama isn't giving Rodney a scholarship. Thus, Ishmael's recruiting should be over since LSU is willing to pay the price. The fact that it isn't over is kind of all you need to know.

Agree live in the now. Get both Sopsher's if that's what it takes. They optic of losing another top Louisiana to Bama is critical. Jackson is a Mississippi kid, missing on an out-of-state kid isn't as crushing as losing an in-state kid.

It would be the wrong thing to do and it would send the wrong message to future recruits that they could leverage us.

If it takes two scholarships to get Ishmael Sopsher you make that deal. You keep Louisiana first as part of the deal. You keep a good player away from Bama. Two player swing is worth two scholarships. Rodney’s scholarship is only for one year anyway.

Well, we did get 2 Fournettes, And that did not seem to work out very bad for anybody… I would even use Lanard’s success as a selling point. Not only did LSU give him a scholarship, but also gave him a legitimate shot to compete… And he has!

^^^^^^

Also, if his heart is not at LSU, there’s more chance of all that talent going to waste......TValentine ?

Yes, lanard might be our best change of pace back right now. Can’t wait to see him in the Bowl game

Just my two cents but there is absolutely no way I’d give up two scholarships to get one player. A school like LSU should never even consider that. If Ishmael doesn’t want to be a part of his home state and do something special here then go elsewhere. And stay there because he’s either a Tiger or he’s Tiger bait.

I was hoping it was more along the lines of him wanting his brother and family all at home. If he was going to be out of town he didnt need to have his brother there because all the family wasnt there. Idk where his head is though.

I do not disagree with your point, however, it depends upon whether the staff sees him as a potential game changer. Also, depends upon the evaluation of the other player. In other words, Lanard was anything but a waste of a scholarship.

Also, since we are considering “doubles”, it is kind of a “double” hit if a “game changer” ends up at our competitor.

I don't think you can just look at it in a vacuum like that.

Who would Rodney's scholarship otherwise go to? I think you have to weigh the opportunity cost.

Also, can we flip a guy like Young? If so, we might be able to afford to lose Ish. If not, it would be pretty much no secret that he would hold all the cards.

Sopsher has made us look bad either way.

If we offer his brother and he STILL picks Bama, Nick will use that with future recruits and say, "look, a guy who was from Louisiana would rather come here then play for them even if it meant his brother got a full ride scholarship."

If he comes here, then it's "sure, he went there. But only because LSU was willing to give his brother a free ride. He really wanted to be here."

Bama is in a no lose situation. LSU looks bad either way. And Sopsher actually looks bad too because he let himself get played.

There's no way I would entertain the thought of giving Rodney a scholarship. Ish is NOT bigger than the program. No one player should be able to hold the LSU program hostage. JMO.

It's dicey. If you offer 2 for 1 and Ish hits and is an All-SEC difference maker for 3 years like LF7 you can absorb the loss of that extra schollie and come out fine. Although I think Lanard is actually a decent player who has contributed.

If Ish doesn't pan out due to intangibles (grades, poor work ethic, etc.) then you really hurt yourself basically wasting 2 scholarships.

I do my homework on all the off the field intangibles on Ish. If no huge red flags you offer the 2 for 1 deal if that's what it takes.

I think LSU has a good shot at either Ish or Young. I'd be surprised to see both sign with Bama since they just signed 3 SDE in early period.

Nailed it!!!

We are going up against UT, TA&M, and Bama at a minimum for the #1 DT in 2020...it's hardly a forgone conclusion that we land him...and he is a TX kid...no in-state advantage for LSU like Sopsher…with Jackson.

LSU needs to land Ish and Rodney for several reasons...

#1 Need Ish on DL

#2 Put up the fence around LA talent and keep Bama out

#3 Must take top talent to win NCs

This one player is about a lot more than just 2019...it has repercussions on several levels...that's what many on this board don't get...

As much as I hate it, we aren't getting McKinnley Jackson next year. His high school coach is a big Bama fan (posts on their boards, etc.) and has openly talked about pushing him to Bama and away from LSU.

People come to TD because of well thought out responses like this.
