I may be expecting too much from Aleah early on here but I’m curious how they are going to construct her bars. Sarah and Aleah were not very strong bar workers as elites but have the form judges at the NCAA level look for. Judges are looking for straight body hand stands, pointed toes and clean dismounts

Honestly. The thing I wanna see the most next season is Kai coming back from her injury. I can't wait to see her on floor.

Imagine a floor lineup with Kai, Aleah, Haleigh and Kiya
Speaking of, the front double full needs to go in Haleighs floor

I would love that lineup but I don’t think they’ll use Kai much on floor next year. Basically due to injury and recovery. I think the final three spots are between Tatum, Dunne, Ballard, Alyona, and possibly Edwards. Honestly, Dunne needs to be in the floor lineup. The judges would love her.

So - do you think he'd really take Alyona off bars? I mean, I get it for the dismount issue alone, but I can't see him doing that since that was "her" event in elite. Maybe I'm wrong and we'll see radical changes that fix things that really held back the team this year.

I wasn’t that wowed by Alyona’s floor. I’d much prefer to see her on bars and vault over floor and beam. Floor would be last for me.

I'm gonna guess lineups for next year, though some of this may be controversial (order isn't gonna be exact).
Vault:
1. Edwards
2. Shchennikova
3. Ryan
4. K. Johnson/Finnegan (1.5 vault or double for Johnson)
5. Kiya
6. Bryant
Bars: (Dismounts are what needs to be fixed) (Aleah and Arenas is dark horse to take a spot)
1. Kai
2. Dunne
3. Kiya
4. Bryant
5. Shchennikova
6. Durante
Beam:
1. Dean/Desiderio
2. Bryant/Dean
3. Dunne
4. Finnegan
5. Kiya
6. Campbell
Floor:
1. Desiderio/Dunne
2. Alyona
3. Edwards/Kai
4. Aleah
5. Bryant
6. Kiya
I have a difficult time seeing Jay move a couple of routines out of lineups but I may be wrong. I have zero concerns about our vault and floor. How the coaches address bars and beam IMO will determine our success come next year.
Tatum didn't look extremely sharp this past JO season which is why she is the odd one out among the freshmen. That doesn't mean she won't compete but it may take her more than a season to break into a lineup on regular basis. I hope Arenas breaks into a lineup but without upgrading her vault, making that lineup will be very challenging.

I'm going to respectfully disagree here. I honestly like Alyona's floor much more than I do her bars, but to each their own. Personally vault and floor were her best events. Her beam is good when she hits although she was a bit inconsistent at times. I thought she got some boosts in her bar scoring due to her reputation from elite career. She isn't the the only NCAA gymnast who got scores based off their past history, it happens all the time.
Truthfully, she got away with a bit on bars considering her dismount and inconsistency at times with handstands. She did improve a bit to end the year but there are things to clean up.
Considering Alyona was coming off a major injury and this was her first year back training all around in general, she really came a long way in every aspect. She may surprise us again this offseason with more time training and clean up more in every area. She shut up a lot of haters this season who said she wasn't good enough to do a lot of things.

Well TB you have forgotten more than I’ll ever know about gymnastics
so I’m sure your opinion is more valid! I just always thought Alyona looked rushed, kind of all over the place and less polished. But those are things that can be cleaned up. She definitely has the skills! (at times I thought the same about Kennedi, as great as she was).

Don't worry about it, we all have different styles we enjoy more. There is NO right answer.

I think Alyona does get rushed at times but form wise she actually does really well with her tumbling on twisting elements. I think the one thing she needed to clean up was control on her opening front double full, but she actually cleaned that pass up a lot to end the season. It was much more controlled in general. Edwards has this same issue as well (bouncing out the front double full at times).
I'm excited though to see competition unfold this fall. I think the competition is going to push a lot of people.

Here's the thing, Reagan's final NQS on beam was 9.894. We CANNOT have our anchor have a lower than 9.9 NQS. Contrast with Baumann, Blanco, and Webb, for example whose NQS were 9.938, 9.95, and 9.969. I don't doubt that she is nearly a world class beam worker if she is healthy, but she just isn't healthy enough right now (or wasn't this year). I do really hope Jay just doesn't give them their spots because "seniors"

I think the one thing that hurts Campbell is not having a consistent dismount. That’s why I mentioned trialing another dismount. The reality is if you don’t stick dismounts, it’s hard to stay in the 9.9 range on beam and bars

why everyone doesn't do side aerial to full twist is beyond me...Like even instead of the gainer dismounts like Christina and Alyona.

I totally agree with TB357. I thought her best events were vault and floor, and frankly I even prefer her beam to her bars. Beam has no built in deductions, bars does.
I wonder whether she might improve on her bars form over the summer when she goes back to train at her home gym. I'm really hopeful. Alyona is clearly a very hard worker and is very driven to improve. She was definitely one of the standouts this year.

Wonder who won the Leah smith sweepstakes. UW no longer listed in her profile…

As TB mentioned, it appears to be Arkansas. Ever since Jordyn was hired, I have been super worried about her effect on recruiting in our region/SEC. I wish the Pac-12 would take her back...
note: I do appreciate the voice Jordyn brings to gymnastics, etc. and I felt terrible for her in 2012. I just wish she wasn't over here, lol.

I actually like more teams being in the mix. I think it makes watching gym more fun when it’s not the same teams every year like football. I was excited for Michigan to win it this year.

Are any potential recruits competing? (apart from the big names everyone knows)
