Rewatching the Florida meet (glutton for punishment and I watched with others and couldn’t hear the commentary on Friday) - initial thoughts - our vault
Rotation was worth the score, bars were not
As overscored in real time as I thought -
But we have got to get that orphan half turn out of brock’s routine - it just looks like a mistake

I think the reason she has it in her routine is due to possibly needing a B+D bonus to meet the 10.0 requirement. She isn't the most natural bar worker so they are doing what they can for that routine. Brock doesn't have a big arsenal of skills to choose from on bars. Vault and floor have always been her specialty events but Brock has worked really hard to give us some depth this year.

IMO LSU has to find a way to get Arenas in the bar lineup. That was her best event as an elite and as a JO athlete. Compare her toe point, straight body line to Brock and Deans, form wise, its superior. She had a very strong fall, so its weird that she is "struggling" to find a way to break through on that event.

The only thing I can think of that is holding her back is her opening release (Ray), because I thought for sure she would be in the bars lineup by now. If she doesn't exhibition her bars at Alabama, doubtful she will be used on bars any point the rest of the year. If we truly want to get her in the lineup by post season, she needs a couple meets to get acclimated before SEC's, at least so she can get comfortable.

I just don't like going into post season with question marks at the 2 spot in the bars lineup and not knowing what Alyona on bars will show up.

Ideally, I would also like for Bryant to do her other dismount. Its a shame such a quality routine is in the 9.8's due to the dismount.

I'm as puzzled as everyone about Arenas missing from the bars lineup. I went back and watched her bars from 101 and although it's clear she was nervous, it's also clear she is a bars worker with a higher potential peak than Brock or Dean. She has very good handstands with perfectly straight body position, pretty releases with good form (incl a pak with her legs glued together), a very comfortable dismount, and a lot of elite-level polish like pointed toes and a great swing. So why??? Not knocking Dean or Brock, who have been tremendously consistent athletes who can come in at any time.

Having Elena on only one event vs. Florida was a travesty.

I need help. OU counted 5 vaults with the lowest being .9925. I looked at the video and several of the vaults had start values of less than 10 and all too steps except Webb who had a small hop but still got a 10.
How does this happen and will it continue into the post season?

RQS only requires four meets this year. Only 2 must be away and the highest score will not be dropped. The four scores will be averaged.

Thank you for the explanation. We will need several more high scores for sure.

Anyone know what,s going on with Reagan, in terms of injury from Friday? We are getting to the point where our best case lineups need to be getting set and healthy.

I really feel bad for this senior class. They have had so many injury issues and never really were able to put together a complete year.

As an admitted novice gymnastics fan, maybe some of you guys can answer this. Have gymnastics officials tried to curtail the amount of time young girls are spending training to try and help with all the injury issues or is it still a dog eat dog world?

I think the issue with this senior class is that Desiderio, Dean, and Campbell were all elite at one point. Elite requires a lot of time in the gym. And a lot more pounding on the body. If I am not mistaken (and someone please correct me), Dean and Campbell both had back injuries before they came to college. Both stepped down back to Level 10 before college. Desiderio remained elite until college. Durante is the only one who seems to be the healthiest right now, and even she has had lingering pain in her knee. If I remember correctly, she tore her ACL her senior year in high school. And then Gunter tore her Achilles her sophomore year. So yes, this senior class unfortunately has been hammered with injuries.

Lilly's form on bars has really improved

She gonna be really good for us on beam, bars and floor. I am interested in how her vault will progress now that she has grown. Vault has always been a struggle as an elite due to her short stature but the growth she has had within the last year will do good for her moving into college.

Lily is looking polished. So, Lily and Bryce are our two 2022 recruits. Do you know if there are scholarships available for more recruits in 2022?

Annie is as well. Thats two scholarship kids and a walk on as of now. Unless another scholarship kid steps away, not sure where the money would come from. 2022 was always suppose to be a smaller class, this is the class with Ferrer only, who is now gone. Unless we turn into UCLA and get top recruits to walk on, not sure how we would get a kid like Selena Harris to come here.

I like that Bryce gives us a big vault (DTY) and a big floor routine. Lilly gives us nice bars and beam. Annie is very good on beam and floor. Nice mix of power and clean with this class now.

2023 is expected to be a big class, the big focus will be on. K. McClain, K. Coen, Zoe Miller and Amari Drayton. Elizabeth Ganter (Georgia commit) could be an option as well.

NL cup will be on very soon, so we get to see Bryce and Coen. Jay is very big about Coen especially, she is already killing it and is probably the best level 10 kid for 2023. Her phone will be ringing off the hook in the coming months once 2023 kids are allowed to be contacted.

She is, didn’t mean to say she wasn’t.

Hopefully we see this on Friday....
