K Johnson may be the lowest profile of next year’s class but I can totally see her playing an important Myia Hambrick role.

Solid work across all 4 events and being from Texas Dreams, where they pay attention to form and details, doesn’t hurt.

IMO, Sierra Ballard should get another shot on floor next week. The floor was very hard at Auburn and she did tremendous for an opening debut. It will only get better from more experience.

I honestly would also move Campbell to lead off on floor as well while making the insertion.

I’m so excited about this team! So much potential once everyone is healthy and hitting.

The improvement on bars that we saw from Chase last night! Someone has been working hard! I’m so excited about both her and Sierra!

Elena’s vault was much improved last night as well. These freshman are coming along! I can’t wait to see Elena on bars and Olivia on beam and floor.

And Alyona.. great for her! She put the biggest smile on my face last night.

I used to be against two pass floor passes, but Iowa does it so well. I really enjoy watching them on floor. Hoping Livvy gets a two pass routine to help with endurance.

The gymternet is still melting down over our meet yesterday - I saw someone who basically thinks that auburn was better and that LSU,s performance should have scored 196 even, lol ??

These people have seriously lost their minds and I'm not even kidding. LSU has literally gotten so much shite this year all because of the "masks" stuff since this past summer and they are hoping LSU fails. Its gotten so out of hand on LSU's social media account as they are openly attacking athletes and wishing illness on coaches. LSU has had to step in and remove things as well as administer blocks.

Even with questionable scores for some routines (LSU aint the only one as well). There is no doubt that LSU is still a top 3 team in the country and they don't like that. We are doing this all without AA caliber routines from Kiya on vault and floor the last few weeks. We still haven't come close to peaking or having a complete meet yet either.

If LSU somehow pulls off the upset next weekend, they will literally break if thats even possible. Their mental gymnastics knows no bounds.

Sierra and Elena should both get another chance on floor imo. Sierra in particular looked very good - super strong landings and very confident. Definitely did not look like it was her debut routine. I too would prefer starting with Campbell. She is reliable and quite clean with nice polish.

As to vault, I am not sure what to do with Ryan tbh. It may be that nerves hit her very badly. Schennikova should go later in the lineup, and Kiya should probably go back to the full especially if she still has Achilles tenderness. I'm guessing this was a trial run for Florida next week?

All in all I thought the freshmen did great. The depth is now very good seeing as Kiya has been limited/not in best shape and we don't even have Kai for this year, when she should've been a 2-3 eventer.

IMO go Campbell, Edwards, Arenas/Desiderio (if feeling good), Ballard, Alyona and Bryant on floor. Obviously if Kiya is able to go, we can adjust as needed.

Ballard's potential here is very evident. Honestly Auburn was a very difficult meet for anyone on floor. LSU has had many issues here over the years, their floor is very hard and not very bouncy unlike most places. I really think Ballard could give us great scores if she gets more experience. I still consider her routine an upgrade to Deans.

100% mental and confidence. Supposedly according to Jay, she got nicked up in practice this week and they weren't sure if she would compete this past weekend. The biggest issue is she gets ahead of herself and she either nails or misses the block. Her vault at 101 was rough (bad block), she turns around and delivers a near perfect 1.5 vs Georgia in exhibition, then goes to Auburn and has a bad block again. I still think we shouldn't give up on that vault but I guess it comes down to how she warms up. Kam really needs to get a couple of hit vaults out there so she has that confidence. I felt she really rushed that vault against Auburn because the nerves kicked in. If Jay and Bob can get her to settle down and trust her training, its going to be a game changer for us on vault.

Not sure I have ever seen Kiya come up short on her DTY. That was weird.

Is LSU interested in Zoe Miller or Amari Drayton? Both had strong showings this weekend at the WOGA Classic

Yes actually, and Kylie Coen (just qualified to NL cup)

Both those girls are on the recruiting target list already. I know LSU has definitely been looking at those girls for sure. Just can't contact them until later this year.

Obviously Konnor McClain is still high priority for 2023

TB357, is it correct when the regular season comes to a close in late March, teams will be ranked in order by average score based solely off their two best home meets and two best away meets?

Looks like Oklahoma is back. Just scored a 197.8 at Denver.

Can someone tell me what happened to Olivia Greaves’ form? I know she changed gyms but I did not expect her to look this bad in February. She looks so much healthier. You can tell she’s grown a lot in the past year. But never in a million years would I have expected her bars and beam to look the way they do right now. Hopefully she gets it together soon. Someone posted her routines from the WOGA Classic on YouTube and I am a little worried about her.

Its been a rough year for a lot of gymnasts. COVID and their gym situations really impacted a lot of kids. Its been definitely over a year since a lot of these elites have been in a live competition.

Not sure what Olivia's training situation has been since the MG Elite stuff

Riley seems to be doing well at Jades gym.

Totally agree on this. In a regular season I would be in favour of starting her with a full and getting some experience competing one before going to the 1.5. At the current point though, it's a bit of a risk since the season is so short. If K Ryan hits well, it's a good score, but equally it might be a 9.4. Whereas any number of the fulls we can throw out like Durante's would be a 9.8 at least.

Anyway, I see OU is back to doing their awful deep squats on landings. I find them really unattractive. Some of their athletes are very pretty to watch, until the dismount..

A few, albeit unsurprising, thoughts on the rest of the weekend of gymnastics:

OU was scored super high - noone complained, in fact, some said they "deserved" it after their previous two disastrous performances.

Something seems up with Anastasia Webb - I hope she figures it out, because it seems perhaps mental (just bailing out of skills in the middle) - the stress all these girls are under is amazing.

Denver had to put 5 up on three (I think?) apparatus yesterday. Why, you may ask? Oh, COVID contract tracing? Did the gymternet flip out about how they probably weren't observing protocols or taking things seriously - no, there was only respect for how seriously Denver takes these things. This is literally the exact situation LSU was in, but the response was wildly different .

I was pleased with our meet on Friday, but after looking at road-to-nationals -its clear that we are putting up fairly weak vault numbers this year. This isn't completely surprising since in every meet (I think? - maybe not meet 2) we have had a true fall. If we are going to have a chance against Florida, we are going to have to find some of those landings as well. I think the lineup the other day looked really good (absent Kamryn and Kiya, but I think those may have been mental errors - and I also think we shouldn't given up on Ryan's vault, because it will be fire when it hits.

Curious about everyone else's thoughts about Florida on Friday.

The Twitter/gymternet mob are oxygen thieves as far as I’m concerned. The majority of them would go out of their way to denounce bullying, yet gleefully bully every aspect of LSU gymnastics. They are monsters.

Jay updated us on Sarah & Kiya when he spoke to the media yesterday. He said Sarah returned to practice yesterday from Covid protocols. Kiya jammed her ankle on that vault, so he said we will see with her.

I'm sure this has been covered before but I thought Emma Kelly was coming to LSU.
