I think they rewarded her with height, distance, and form. That’s the only way you get to a 0.05 deduction. Still should have only gotten 9.825-9.85.

Only disappointment with the Auburn meet being delayed a week is Bryant not winning SEC freshmen of the week for a fourth time in a row

UCLA was (and is always) massively overscored - see, e.g., their uneven bars this year (it just isn't an impressive lineup and is scoring like a mildly impressive one). I also think its hilarious that the gymternet thinks that four on the floor will be some iteration of FL, UT, AR, MN, MI, and UCLA - not a mention of LSU (unless of course to virtue signal how the team shouldn't be in it because of their mask wearing). This is fine, good to be under the radar - its just funny to me that they would ignore the current 2nd ranked team.

Also, I am worried AR is going to be a big problem for us in the region with Wieber in terms of recruiting. I am hoping that Jay can withstand her name (and the overscoring that followed her from UCLA - though, admittedly, they are much improved, just not as much as their scores would indicate).

Wow. Some of Cal’s gymnasts are vaulting with their masks on. Impressive

I was thinking something other than impressive.

Yea, like Suzanne Yoculan saying in the college fb group that she thinks Ark is the second best team in the SEC. Ok, Suzanne.. LSU has only beat them back to back, and all three of their competing scores are higher, but ok. I'd say that is just wishful thinking on her part for Jay to fail.

And this is with a Kiya Johnson who hasn’t been near her best yet and with many new upgrades coming into the lineup. These people are gonna be really mad in another month when the scores for us continue to jump up.

Lol. Suzanne Yoculan would say that after Georgia looked woefully inadequate next to Arkansas on Friday...

I can't figure out what's going on there - maybe just some bad luck with injuries several years in a row? Lukacs doesn't look as sharp as she has, which is also hurting them. She, like Kiya, needs the double back because she has too much power for the FTY.

I’m curious how long Courtney Kupets Carter has. I mean they lost their minds as soon as LSU passed them up in recent years. Suzanne is probably really pissed now that Arkansas has moved in front within the last year. Their incoming class ain’t much better for next year...

Lukas is a very talented kid but isn’t in great shape physically unfortunately. They have had some bad luck with injuries as well. It’s gonna be a bit of a rebuild. I do enjoy Victoria Nguyen a lot.

Jealousy ain’t a good look Suzanne

I think people will not start giving LSU credit until they get the big monkey off their backs. It was either Spencer (BBS) or Lauren (The Gymternet) who wrote a piece about a year ago or so proclaiming LSU to be “always a bridesmaid”. Remember people didn’t start liking OU and Florida until they each won a championship. I think the same thing is true for LSU right now...although LSU has gotten quite a bit more hate due to the emergence of social media.

Yes! Poor OU. People were literally tweeting at the gymnasts for their performance last night. That is not cool!

Scott Rabalais asked Kiya if she ever sees gym Twitter. His exact words were “they are pretty ruthless, huh?” Kiya then said she tries to stay away from gym Twitter, and that she deleted her Twitter a week again. Scott said “man they go hard. You try to dip your toe into it, and gym Twitter comes after you”. She said the team tries to stay away from it.

Meanwhile I saw some random gym fan on Twitter admit today they enjoy LSU gymnastics and not to cancel them for saying it. This is very sad it’s come to this point.. to even be afraid to admit that they like LSU gymnastics. This is the mob mentality bullying.

Any updates on lineups for Friday? (I know who we want to be in them, but do we know if kiya will be back, Elena used more, Bryant rested, etc?) I’m guessing jay will want Kiya and haleigh in the AA for the Florida meet the week after.

Nothing official yet.

-Ryan will most likely be in vault lineup if training continues to go well.
- Kiya will likely do 3 events and try to do AA by Florida if she feels well (she felt much better with a break this past weekend)
-Bryant expected to do AA, her middle tumbling pass has been adjusted as needed (she feels good with it)
-Campbell is feeling better but still banged up (hip flexor and back)

Still waiting on Arenas to get a shot on bars, I thought it was a given due to her performance all fall. IMO LSU needs her on this event right now more than vault or beam. There is a huge drop off between the top 5 on bars and Brock/Dean. Its definitely a weird situation.

Jay mentioned in a couple weeks ago he is hesitant to throw certain routines out there because he 'doesn't want to ruin their confidence and rush them in'. Maybe this is the reason but not sure. By the end of the week, the season will be halfway over and if we are serious about getting certain routines out there, we don't have a lot of time before SEC's. (4 regular season meets left after Auburn)

Thanks for the info! I actually hope they rest Kiya more as we will really need her against Florida and for post-season. We can't afford to lose her for the rest of the year.

I understand wanting to ease some of the athletes in, but if anything, Alyona was thrown in too quickly. Dunne and Arenas are seasoned former elites. They would be fine on multiple events. We need to get any routines we really want to use in post-season out now. It's also important too for the athletes to feel that the coaches believe in them...

Is Rau out of the picture?

Not sure I'm following on some things either though I don't see the kids everyday like the coaches do. Its very surprising though we have seen Brock on bars but not Arenas, which makes no sense to me. That might be the biggest head scratcher so far this year. Bars has always been Arenas best event, as a elite and JO athlete. Dunne I figured would either get in on beam or floor at some point. To be quite frank, her scoring potential is higher than quite a few routines we have out there already.

For floor, I definitely think the younger kids have much higher scoring potential overall but Jay has leaned heavily on seniors so far. Maybe that changes but its interesting to me. I do worry about Dean's floor getting hit hard come post season. Its a solid routine but definitely is a step down from Kirby and Ruby's lead off routines over the last few years.

I don't think she gets in the lineup this year with Ryan and Alyona continuing to develop. If things continue to go as planned, LSU will have five 10.0 vaults with Brock or Arenas leading off this event. Rau was not suppose to be competing this soon anyways, she was thrown into the fire last year because we had zero depth, she did her job filling in.

Maybe it comes down to practice and who actually hits their release without coming off, maybe Brock is more consistent with that so far

This is probably it. With that said I hope Arenas does what she needs to do to eventually work her way in this lineup because this event is where she really shines.

I hope K. Ryan has another strong vault performance against Auburn. Definitely earned herself an opportunity after that exhibition routine vs Georgia

I’d love to see LSU go above a 197.400 this week. Another strong road score will definitely give us a lot of room to work with down the stretch. It’s nice to be counting multiple 197s within the first three meets instead of having to scramble and play catchup

Really surprised by the pre meet notes. No Edwards in vault or floor. Dean still in 3 events. But I’m glad to see Ryan on vault and Ballard on floor. Wondering if Erenas will do floor instead of Kiya.
