Hmm, yes I am seeing this on the college gymnastics Facebook page - if it’s true, how did Jay miss it? Assume it was Wieber who turned her in - if it was after the last meet (not this one) since previously, we had only competed against Arkansas, lol.

Ahh if Haleigh received an UTL deduction, it must be for this requirement:

Routines must include both forward and backward saltos

She currently does
- double front
- front layout - rudi
- front 2/1 twist

The judges this week probably didn't deem her choreographic layout stepout as a back salto.

Haleigh is an extremely talented athlete and yes the rule is stupid. She obviously goes above and beyond in difficulty; however if the rule exists it has to be followed. This just proves that the judging is inconsistent and not fair to all athletes. I can’t imagine jay didn’t know this going in and let her go out there with it anyway. It makes LSU look bad and we already have enough hate. What kind of judges do we have that they don’t know the rules? It just diminishes the sport and makes it look like a popularity contest.

Even if someone from Arky realized the composition issue, I doubt they turned HB in for this. Why point out the issue now and give LSU time to fix it prior to post season? Complaining about it during post season (with less time to adjust) would potentially be more beneficial to said coach’s team.

That would explain the issue. Hopefully they can fix it with minimal adjustments. So what exactly is her bugaboo with backwards maneuvers again?

I don’t know for sure, but it could be any number of things: fear, previous injury, mental block, forward saltos/twisting just easier for her...it’s not an uncommon thing...I think I read Ruby had the same issue with her bars dismount, which is why she stayed with the double front and it’s ever present step/landing deduction.

Per Tigerbait, it is isn't the bacward salto issue; it is having an acro series pass with three separate acro elements. all of her passes, difficult as they are only ahve two (like a front handspring to double full or front double tuck). She will actually have to insert an easier pass to meet the requirement, I believe. Again, not sure why no one made sure that her routine met the requirements...but now there is time to fix it, so hopefully it will be all good.

Also, I believe this is a requirement in JO - I assume that she was just doing her JO passes, so its confusing.

In her interview that’s posted to YouTube, Haleigh mentioned that she’s adding a front handspring to her second pass and that will fulfill the requirement. Said they found out last week that she was missing that requirement but it seems like they didn’t make the adjustment in time for Friday’s meet.

As expected. It’s a simple fix. Glad it’s fixed now instead of later.

Amazingly 5 of the 6 judges from her floor routines did not take that deduction. The one judge from this last meet was the only one who caught it.

Yes. The judges missed it. Jay talks about it more in his interview on LSU Tiger Tv on YouTube. Also sounds like Haleigh might be somewhat limited this Friday because of the toe injury.

I guess for back tumbling, there is the round off and backhandspring before the bigger skill. Glad they can fix it, also glad it was picked up now and not later. Hope Haleigh is OK

Y’all... did you see Reagan’s interview where she said before her first beam routine in the pmac DD asked her what are you, and then followed that up to say “you’re the big bad beam b****”

she clearly has a particular school she is waiting for... i can't imagine she's waiting for a school as the top ranked 2022 recruit unless her personality absolutely sucks in interviews and direct conversations.

With the current restrictions in recruiting due to COVID. I wouldn't be shocked to see a lot of athletes drag it out to signing day to truly evaluate their options.

Selena has her options, she's that good. Would like to have her at LSU, but it comes down to scholarship management and what Jay ends up doing.

As I said their had been a little bit of smoke with Sophia Butler but we will see what happens. Alyona had some smoke that lingered for months before she announced she switched her commitment to LSU. Same could happen here depending on how things go in the coming months.

We learned that they gave Bryant a .100 deduction in her floor routine for not meeting an “Up to the level requirement” with her routine composition.

The rules were not written well so they will add a front handspring to her 2nd pass. Shouldn’t be an issue moving forward! It’s just kinda dumb when she already does the most difficult floor routine in the country

So, the coaches submit the level to the judges before hand, then the gymnast must fulfill the expectations matching the level?

So there are composition requirements every routine must meet in order to not get a flat deduction.

The issue was Haleigh did not have a tumbling pass that had three acro elements connected in a row. All her passes only have two. LSU isn’t the only team that got hit by this rule. The rules were not well written. It’s a pretty simple fix. They will just add the front handspring to her 2nd pass so now she won’t get hit with the flat deduction, she will now have a tumbling pass that has three acro elements connected. Better to find out now then to get hit with this in postseason

So, are the required elements based on difficulty level or are they standard regardless of difficulty level? I don't quite understand how it works. Thanks for explaining.
