JR was on the 89 Worlds team. She may have been the alternate, but she was definitely on the team.

I am rooting for skinner, largely because of the (unwarranted at this point in my opinion) hate she gets from various corners of the gymternet. I actually think based on last night - it’s going to be skinner abs McCallum as interchangeable for the 4th-5th. I think mccusker is out honestly asked on her performance last night - which was good but not great and the poorly timed injury that took her out of AA.

Edit - Autocorrect messed up with mccallum

I think some didn't like Skinner because she use to be somewhat arrogant (freshmen year especially at Utah), although IMO she has matured so much since then and is actually really pleasant these days. Sweet girl who works very hard and supportive of other girls. I like her a lot now, her hard work and dedication is admirable. I hope she gets that last spot personally. I do like Grace as well although I think Skinner adds more to the table for the team based on her vault alone.

McCusker might have had a shot to go to Tokyo on the team previously but injuries seemed to have piled on at unfortunate times for her. She could get an individual spot possibly.

Ok thanks. I was barely born in 1989. Probably why I don’t remember.

JR competed bars on the World Team. She is also a Brevet Judge and accepts international assignments before the NCAA Season begins.

How would y'all feel if Bryant added a half twist to her opening pass?

I see she has been working on some different tumbling in the gym, just made me curious.

Why I say Grace is because she previously scored ahead of Skinner at Classics and Nationals. Plus she has been on the past two Worlds teams. Skinner only finished 0.1 ahead of Grace on night one. Not much difference there. And Skinner is gonna get hit for her form internationally. I’m still not sure how she gets the scores she does while other gymnasts don’t (insert Emily Lee).

You may be right, although I was looking through the scope of the team score perspective. You already have 3 strong all arounders (Biles, Sunisa, and Chiles). I think overall Grace is probably a better all arounder in general with better form but I think Skinner brings more to the table from a team perspective with her vault.

As for her form, Skinner would get shredded on bars and beam internationally but I am not worried about her vault getting hit that way. Have you seen the scores that Maria Paseka has gotten for years despite awful form? Skinner would not fare any worse.

I’m honestly more concerned about her double full than her double front. Nothing wrong with her double front right now. That last pass gave her fits at Gym 101, vs. Florida, and at Regionals. Think it’s time to ditch it.

I think they will. Jay hinted they wanted to remove it but didn't feel comfortable making such a change that late in the year.

I am excited to see what Courtney does with the choreography and some of the skill selection.

Exactly. I hate the argument that skinner can’t make it because she isn’t the all- rounder that grace it is. It literally doesn’t matter - that grace can outscore mykayla doesn’t matter because she is the 4th best all around we we have and she doesn’t add anything on any event consistently (she could on beam or floor depending the day but not consistently) in a team final scenario. The person who does add to the team score consistently is skinner on vault. I think based on that, it’s hers to lose. I think bringing mccallum as an all around backup in the 5th spot makes a ton of sense, hence my theory that unfortunately leaves Riley out.

But it may also make sense to leave McCallum as an alternate in the event someone is injured or gets sick. She could step in for literally anyone on the team and do a great job.

I am SO excited to see what Courtney does with floor next season and I hope Jay gives her enough control to do what she wants. IMO she's one of if not the best choreographer in ncaa right now and she could do wonders for LSU's floor routines. And that's no disrespect to ACK who has been money for LSU for so many years now, but Courtney did wonders for Utah.

When taking Grace as the 5th, she will act as the alternate should the team need it. That’s the only way USA won’t have to strip someone of their Olympic credentials, which they have historically been loath to do.

One of the best parts about this hire is Courtney will basically be a glorified 3rd assistant coach. Obviously she will not be able to do as much from a recruiting perspective as Garrett with the volunteer tag but she will be able to spend much more time in the gym working with the athletes than ACK since this is her only job. That isn't a knock on ACK as she did a great job.

We obviously know that Courtney is pretty much set when it comes to choreographing for Aleah and Sierra, given that they are overall the best dancers and performers this team has and probably ever will have. But those two aside, the the typical choreography response to someone who isn’t as talented in those to areas is to just have them pose and point as they walk around the floor. What I’ve seen from Courtney during her time at Utah is she can take even the most untalented dancers/performers and turn them into one (even if it’s just faking it for a minute and 30 seconds

Was thinking today how GAGE had five elites this quad, including two stars who had few/no injuries and yet it’s likely none will be Olympians (yes, they may be alternates but that’s different). Crazy that they can’t get to the games with all that talent...kinda like Texas Dreams but for different reasons.

So 3 things

1, can Laurie Hernandez please take Nastia’s spot and Bart take Tim’s? !!! Edited to say wtf was Nastia wearing?
2, I really would love shilese to come to lsu. Come on girl!!! Come home to b.r!
3, I know they abused but no one could pick a team like the karolis. I’m sorry but no to grace. If you wanted a more floor and vault person but who could AA you should have picked Leann. I think this could come back and bite Tom.

As for Tom, JMO he seems straight by the book and in general doesn't know how to make calculated decisions to maximize potential. It was never gonna be anyone other than 1,2,3,4. That is the impression I get given his history and actions.

Yea but I think that was what made Marta and Bela so good at picking. And they didn’t even have an automatic spot in Simone. Well I guess Marta did her last year.
