This was a brutal year to pick and it sucks for many of the athletes who were better last year than this year unfortunately due to the olympics being delayed.

I wish they still had the 5 member teams.

It makes no sense though having 2 vault specialists though when you already have Simone. They clearly weren't trying to maximize the medals brought home.

I generally agree - but honestly Carey taking the individual route made team selection substantially more difficult. If she is not Olympic level due to injury in Tokyo (she is reported as having a lower leg injury), then it is the most tremendous waste of a spot. I think they should have put skinner on the team to maximize team score and taken grace as the individual but also love that skinner persevered to get a spot

I wonder if Riley was offered an alternate spot and said no she can heal up and get ready for Florida. I also wonder if jade and Riley are a lot more injured than we are aware of and that could have factored in to leaving Riley at home and taking Skinner

I think Riley has been hurt for years. I actually think her getting a break before fla is thing for them. I don’t see how she stays healthy for 4 more years. She seems like another case of Madison kocian.

I was okay with the team. My thing is, all of the healthy gymnasts had an equal opportunity to place top 4. Tom has historically taken the AA order…so that should have always been in the back of everyone’s mind. They are going to win regardless of who is on the team (barring injury). A few tenths on vault does not matter IMO.

Regarding the plus +, I do not blame Jade for taking the individual route. Never leave your fate in the hands of someone else. Her and her Dad were smart to go that route. Regarding Mykayla….I really don’t care for her arrogance. But she did place 5th…which was always ultimately going to get her the plus 1. Riley fell on her best event. No matter how good she is on bars, she fell when it mattered most. Many gymnasts fell and didn’t make the team. Can’t say I feel bad for Riley. Now who I do feel bad for is Skye. She didn’t even get to compete. I had her as an alternate. Can’t really feel bad for the others.

Suni mentioned pre trials that she’d decide whether or not to go pro after the team announcement. Would be a huge loss to Auburn if she does. I hope she does not give up her eligibility bc her competing in college will help NCAA gymnastics. I think skinners more likely to go pro and give up her last year of eligibility (yes the NCAA rules are changing but it’s all a bit unclear at this point)

NCAA needs Suni! (Or maybe I just want to see her in NCAA!). Lol. I think making the Olympic team will do wonders for her since NIL goes into effect in July. Same thing with Chiles. The way UCLA markets it’s athletes, the sky is the limit for Jordan.

How much money can they really make going pro? Can't emagine it would be much. Simone is going to pretty much take all that money. She's the only one anybody has ever heard of.

Is anyone going to watch Golden on Peacock? I’ve watched the first two episodes and it’s pretty good.

Also, I peeped the LSU wristband in episode two with Konnor. Hoping it’s a sign of things to come.

I haven't seen it yet but I need to get around to it.

On Suni, maybe its just me but she doesn't seem like the type to go pro. She comes from a well rounded family and they have indicated how much they value education. Unless you are extremely marketable, I'm not sure how much value it truly has to go pro compared to the long term benefits of free college (aint cheap these days) with a degree. None of those girls will be making Simone Biles money.

So, I just finished watching it (or currently released episodes) I think Episode 3 sheds a lot of light on what was going on with Konnor in the spring - would be interested in yalls take on it, but to me it seems like her coach was totally outclassed/bamboozled by having an athlete of Konnor’s caliber during a compressed Olympic cycle. I assume that eventually Tom or her parents were like we need a different environment/someone with more expertise.

Yes, Susan kind of admitted in the episode that she really didn’t know how to coach an athlete of that caliber. Said Konnor’s the first athlete she’s had of that caliber. I think the move was good for her. Susan could only take her so far. Also, I didn’t like the way Tom reacted to Konnor and her coach when Konnor didn’t do the AA at Winter Cup. I don’t think he really likes Konnor (just my opinion).

I felt bad for Konnor and their coaches in a way with a lot of the outside pressure and expectations to have her ready this year. They were caught in a bad spot with the olympics being pushed back. Training to peak a few years later then trying to change gear to be your best within 12 months is tough (mentally especially).

I hope the gym change works out for Konnor

Exciting to see the girls are posting about NIL. Can’t help but think that it will create some divide/potential jealousy amongst teammates (on any team). Someone like Olivia Dunne or Aleah is going to have a lot more opportunities than Sarah or Christina. Sucks that international athletes can’t partake due to visa restrictions.

Unfortunately I don't think there is a perfect solution. Some will get more opportunities than others but they all have the chance to at least be able to benefit from the new rule.

From a recruiting perspective, it was get with it or get left behind.

It looks like Campbell signed a deal with BarStoolSports. I think..

I think the main reason Skinner was given the last individual spot over someone like Riley is because she is a built in alternate. Alternates must be subbed in by a certain point if injury takes someone out. But because of the Covid rules and what not, an individual can be subbed in more last minute than someone just named an alternate. So, since the US didn’t have much of a shot at a medal with anyone else, and she placed 5th AA, might as well give her the spot and have a better alternate in place if needed.

Good for her. She wasn't terrible at Georgia although not where they wanted to be. Its gone down hill even more so since Kupet Carter has taken over.
