Found a cool video for those interested... shows the progression over time with the bars. I like what they were doing in the 60's and 70's better than what it is now. Much more difficult and artistic. What say you?

Check it

That was back in '72. I sure haven't seen near that kind of difficulty at the college level. To me, the routines are getting kind of bland and are regressing. I wish the degree of difficulty was more prominent at the college level.

Artistry in this sport seems to have gone downhill although some clubs (GAGE and Texas Dreams) still place a major emphasis on it.

In elite I agree a lot of routines are getting bland. On bars specifically everyone literally has almost the same composition these days. Some of the news rules in place though have started to encourage kids to start doing different mounts on the beam which had disappeared for a bit so we are starting to see more of that.

As for college level difficulty, we just aren't going to see the difficulty we see in elite unfortunately when pretty much most events you can do little and start from a 10. I do wish they could reward more for kids who do routines w/ more difficulty. We won't see a whole lot more unless they start to put new rules in place to reward more for doing more difficulty.

That said, the new crop of gymnasts as of late IMO have elevated college gymnastics taking it to another level w/ the difficulty being performed (Nichols, Price, Skinner, Kocian, Kelley). These kids are going above and beyond on what is required for most routines which is nice to see.

Btw McKenna is looking great so far this fall and looks extremely confident. I expect her to be a major contributor on multiple events this season.

Ferrer has her floor, she is training both a double Arabian and a full in still, either could be used as a first pass.

If Desiderio could continue to lose weight, upgrades are more than a possibility, they definitely would love to see her do more than just the double layout.

I think the kid to watch this fall/ be on everyone's radar is Bridget Dean. Campbell IMO is the other kid to really keep a close eye on, she dealt with a lot of injuries over the last 3 years but she's finally healthy and in a good place overall for her to finally train consistently and develop.

Notes from Dallas last night:

DD Breaux hinted at Desiderio being a lead off on beam next season due to her consistency

They are pushing Campbell to contribute on at least 3 events, she truly is an elite all arounder

Bridget Dean was one of the big names mentioned. She came in injured and behind, they expect big things from her. They expect to see her contribute on beam and bars at minimum.

Myia was not that special as a freshmen, she struggled. She came into her own her sophomore year, and they expect big leaps for some of the sophomores. The sophomore class is the one to watch out for.

No talk on Ferrer but she is obviously a significant deal and she will be heavily used. LSU fans will definitely know her name out the gate

Thanks for the updates from Dallas! Desiderio as lead off would be interesting. Erin moved to that role her Soph year too and solidified it for 3 years. Looks like DD is trying to do the same - if it isn't broke, don't fix it!!

Great news about the other girls as well.

Its probably smart, of all the events consistency matters greatly on beam. Outside of Semi finals this year she was superb on beam, arguably the most consistent all year.

If the person in the lineup falls/shaky then that literally puts a major strain down the lineup.

Another thing is they said this has been one of the best groups they've ever had in terms of kids coming into fall healthy/ready to go. There were some minor surgeries this offseason to clean some stuff up for some kids but everyone is ready to go.

They expect this team to pick off where they did last year and build, they actually think we will be a bit better because the sophomores will definitely take some major steps forward.

Campbell and Dean are the kids I am watching this fall.

It's good to hear the news about Dean and Campbell. Any word on whether Duranti will be given the opportunity to compete bars further down the lineup?

Not at this time no, we still got ways away before all is figured out. My bet Is it is probably going to be the exact same lineup as last year but with Ferrer or Dean at the 2 spot.

Once Priessman and Finnegan graduate she will be moved down the lineup for sure

Love the potential with this team when everyone is healthy. I've never seen an LSU freshman class as banged up as last years. Desiderio had leg, shoulder, and ankle issues. Dean came in injured from the JO level. Campbell had a foot problem and a wrist injury. Durante had to have surgery to clean up some stuff.

Now we will truly see them strive/progress now that these kids are healthy and in shape. I think all the minor injuries kept so many of these kids back last year. They could not train properly or consistently.

I think we see Priessman on vault more so this year than floor (don't trust her body to hold up on this event)

Hambrick will be replaced by Kelley, Ferrer and Campbell will compete for that floor spot though (Priessman's spot)

Its all a shite show

Funny thing is the next thing these people are gunning for is the coaches, just watch and see all the coaches who step down from elite gymnastics soon, its already starting to happen.

Aleah on bars is working a van Leeuwen and piked Jaegar

Two E elements right there

Working on tkachev into a pak salto to the low bar, would be a nice connection

Floor she is working a full in, double double, and possibly a piked double Arabian. Expect to see a triple twist at some point, she twists really well.

Beam- back handspring into a layout and an Arabian
