This really is our chance…leaving Oklahoma aside (and it is possible to beat them - they are also losing trautman, who while often injured is fairly clutch in post season) - Florida will be down next year without Trinity, Kayla, and I am assuming, Leeanne.

Thanks. I was curious about the recruiting class rankings actually. In the OP it says we have the #1 class.

They’re losing two vaults, one UB and two BB from their final lineup

Kiya is coming back for a 5th year!!!
Cammy, Kai, Alyona also back
Obviously things will be interesting with the incoming freshmen and hypothetically if Konnor decided to come a year early.

I’m excited, surprised, and very worried about lineups. Kinda hoping Konnor holds off now.

I think Jay is going to have to consider having some of them have reduced roles. Obviously Kiya will be used as much as she can physically handle competing/training given how good she is everywhere but I think for Alyona is going to have a reduced role.
I'm all for the 5th years coming back, they will help us, especially depth wise but it also can't be at the expense of the freshmen developing and contributing if they are ready.

Oh I agree, it’s just not how it worked last year with those super seniors.
Posted on 4/28/23 at 7:25 pm to Tigerbait357
On the + side, I’m super excited for Jay to be able to move kiya down in the bars lineup finally! And there should be no reason for any fulls, with the exception of Elena’s some weeks, to be in the lineup. Upgrades for Bryce and kj or no spot.

Have you heard if Savannah Shoenherr is interested in LSU?
Posted on 4/28/23 at 9:21 pm to Bayougallc
I am not mad about this (and Kiya returning is spectacular)…re the seniors becuase this group is stronger technically and leadership than wise than last year’s super seniors (in my opinion). HOWEVER - Alyona CANNOT be in the bars lineup, unless that dismount changes (and probably beam either). So I hope bars wasn’t promised to her.

She is a good gymnast but would be a very odd add considering LSU needs help on bars and beam, and not vault/floor
If they hypothetically added her, zero reason not to have six 10.0 vaults next year, none

Yeah, she is actually a great gymnast. I agree, no excuses for a full in that lineup, not even Elena's. If you have, what, 8 possible 10 s.v., 6 of them should be good enough to beat a very good full. Maybe that will push the upgrades.
Jillian has been training beam too since her comeback, per her IG stories.

I would Prefer adding savannah schoenherr over Jillian - I just thinks bars and/or beam is more crucial than (essentially) a vault specialist.

I would rather have the vaulter if i'm honest.

LSUs event rankings:
Vault- #3 Nationally
Bars- #9 Nationally
Beam- #10 Nationally
Floor- #3 Nationally
We need more big scores on beam and bars to compete for a natty. Being that high on vault and floor this year with no Kiya and missing KJ for a good bit tells us those events are the least of LSUs concerns as well

I am confident we have the bar scores already on the team. They will get there with another year of coaching and consistency. Who is Schoenherr bumping out?
Haleigh
Aleah
Kiya
Jeffrey
Tatum will only improve
Cowan should improve
---
Alyona
Olivia
that's not even considering any incoming freshman. I would argue we have the most options on bars than any apparatus.
Beam definitely leaves a lot to be desired I agree, but with craftier routines that make more sense for each individual gymnasts we could improve even more. Hopefully Jeffrey takes the step forward and improves on what she did. Haleigh, Aleah, Kiya, Jeffrey are a formidable top 4

There is also some convo on the gymternet about Jillian walking-on wherever she decides to go, so... That would be great if she ends up at LSU

I’d put Schoenherr in over Tatum. Her lines are cleaner, she has less built in deductions and rarely doesn’t stick her dismount. As for her other events, she adds depth on beam (yes she didn’t compete it much at UF but she’s clean and we could change her turning leap to a split jump the way they did for Kiya to keep the difficulty in the routine while minimizing deductions), she’s clean on floor as well and also adds another 1.5 to the vault lineup
