Legitimate question: why is this not stickied yet? One of the more useful and entertaining threads I've seen in my time on TD and it's annoying as hell to have to sift through the recruiting board every time I want to look at it.

Saw Lanard Fournette is visting this weekend. Been a while since I heard anything about him. I know we offered him a while back, but will he be part of this class? Did he get the offer just because he's Buga's brother or is he good enough on his own?

Well, that was pretty quick. Despite what Robertson said, it was pretty telling that he visited Baton Rouge without his family IMO.

The DEs seem to be the priority as they should be for 2015. Another OL would be nice as well and any good LB.

Well I don't think these middle Lbers have to play that position necessarily. Beckwith at one outside position and Lewis at the other with Clifton in the middle would be a hellava team out there!! I hope and believe we will start beefing up our Linebackers and play bigger but fast guys out there now. And start getting a little bigger on the ends as well, but have the lighter faster guys on roster for 3rd down situations! Have the backers at about 240 and the DEs at around 265, then have the 245 to 250 lb guys for 3rd down rush situations. Hey if we can pull it off why not??

It's kinda scary what I think Steel and coach O can do with this front seven and is why I think les pulled em in bc LSU is stocked with DB talent all we missing is more bad arse lineman and backers. If possible I would even recruit the lighter faster backers for 3rd down situations also, have the bigger guys for most of your game plan and have the lighter guys for situations. Man you could sell all types of athletes and get the best of the best like this, they all play. Our secondary speaks for its self now all we need to do is get our front seven doing the same and LSU is the D everyone wants to come to and dominate...... Time to dethrone bama recruits!!!

I don't know if Key is a silent commit or not but after watching him on Fox Sports give an interview, it was pretty obvious to me LSU was his favorite...BEFORE his LSU visit.
1) LSU was also the first team he listed and even more important
2) He was asked "besides LSU and South Carolina, who you just mentioned, who are you looking at?" Pretty funny that he mentioned LSU first again and then listed his other 3 teams. Pretty much tells me LSU was in the lead
And he told Fox Sports he would announced on their network on Monday the 2nd....not NSD. He also said he wants to play for a team with a 4 man front.

The DT recruiting obsession for this year is a little overblown. We have 1 senior, 1 junior, and 4 sophomores back next year, and Valentine and LMFAO will be Freshmen after redshirting. With the 2016 class being so strong...
Man, this is so wrong, and this viewpoint is exactly what separates Bama from LSU.
In 2017 every elite DT we have on our roster will be gone. Those reclassified freshman - Valentine and LMFAO - will be gone to the draft after their sophomore seasons (third year), if they are elite.
So, in 2017 we'll be playing defense with a bunch of 2016 signees. EGO and Freak are good enough to be in the NFL today, but can you imagine how bad we would have been if we had to start them in their second years?
Bama signs at least two DTs every year. Therefore, very rarely do they get caught with the kind of inexperience LSU seems to have every year.
2014 DT, QB, and WR
2013 DT (depth), LB, Safety
2012 CB

Chief's fault. Coach O and Frank will restore order.

Allow me to clarify. If we were in the middle of spring or summer of last year, I would agree with you. However, we aren't. There are no big time DTs left on our board who we have a legit shot with.
My argument is about the allocation of resources RIGHT NOW. We can flail around chasing guys that we have absolutely no shot with, or we can close strong with the impact guys at DE and LB that we do have a realistic chance of getting. We will just have to load up on quality DTs next season, and thankfully there are several that we have great chances with. And to guard against what you were talking about, it might be wise to go after a JUCO guy in 2017.
I do understand your argument. However, one thing Bama hasn't had to deal with is mass attrition of the junior class every year. They have developed a different culture where certain four and five star athletes are willing to redshirt for a year and take their time without transferring. They have big time impact senior leaders EVERY YEAR. That just isn't happening here. We are playing almost every potential impact guy as a true freshman (barring injury), and seeing anyone with NFL potential leaving as a junior. In my humble opinion, I don't think this is a problem you can actually recruit your way around by taking certain positions every year. The best thing this new defensive staff can do is work to change the culture around the program that is causing constant attrition of guys who are marginally ready to not ready for the draft. This year was a step, as the staff managed to retain 3 key guys in Alexander, Hawkins, and Mills, but until that becomes the norm again, we will continue to have problems.

Well that and they don't obsess with LSU the way LSU obsesses with Bama

So you think we would lose 6 dts to the draft in one year?

It was stickied for a while and was dead. Threads like this that get stickied usually have the OP updated regularly.

Dude, take a deep breath, drop the picture of Nick Saban that you're clutching, and try to compose yourself.
