Question-Recruits & former recruits: How much influence does your HS Coaches...

and HS teammates have on your college choice?

Moderate influence for some of them. They tend to tell you how you would fit and their past experiences, but if there are incentives involved for the coach like perhaps a small coaching gig or something under the table , they will push you hard to that school. In my case I only had 3 options. He didnt push me to any school but there was a school in particular he pushed me away from because of past relationships with a coach. In the end he was right and I'm glad I listened.

My dad was my high school football/baseball coach and he persuaded me to go somewhere to play baseball rather than football. Other coaches around me wanted to see me give the football route a shot, but I listened to my father.

It varies for different players but normally a player holds what his coach says in high regard I took my coaches advice and it worked out good for me

My coach and parents had different opinions where I played baseball. I picked my own route. I don't regret my decision. I was just fortunate to have options at all.
As far as the influence, I think the ultimate thing for me were friends believe it or not. I had a friend offered from the same place. I guess at 18 I felt like having someone I already knew being with me on that huge change made me feel more comfortable.
Everyone is different though.

Definitely agree, friends were a bigger factor. Playing with a life long buddy is enticing lol. The only thing is we became rivals lol

For me it was my friends/teammates. It was 4 of us teammates, we had offers to different schools then at the last minute one school came in and offered all 4 of us, so needless to say we all went to that particular school.

And yet, not one has so far.
The short answer is the coach had tons of influence, as does the teammates/friends. You tend to trust those you have known for a while more so than those who you haven't....I know, it sounds simplistic, but that's the reality of it. And there is also the desire to "please" your coaches who have in large part gotten you to where you are.
But I think your question may be more along the lines of how much a coach pushes you toward a school more so than how much a player wants to listen to that advice, and I'd guess it's different for every coach, and every kid depending on his talent level.

You do realize there are far more football teams who aren't division 1, than there are that are division 1, correct?
No one that has posted claimed division 1 talent, even though I'm sure some of them were.

Coach Weiner had a huge impact on me. He said "Pimp, you want to make sure to go Lambda Chi because they have a dominant Beer League intramural flag football team and they aren't nearly as gay as Sigma Chi".
Without his guidance I might have gone down a tragic path.

My brother's HS FB coach threw away all of his recruiting letters addressed to the school (1989 NOLA Catholic league). It wasn't until Max Emfinger called my dad and asked why my dad/brother hadn't responded to the college coaches.
My brother verbally committed to Ok State; however he signed his LOI with Ole Miss due to OSU going on probation (losing scholarships) for the Hart Lee Dykes fiasco. My brother later transferred to TROY and started 3 yrs as QB/P.

Had two coaches in high school. One influential, the other very passive. Opportunities presented, small schools, opted not to play in college. Wasn't near as good as I thought I was. All worked out well, no regrets.
I did enjoy the wooing, was fun and got to travel and meet some fine folks.

Truly depends on the family situation. For me, my dad was a strong part of my life and was more concerned with being good at life than football. My coach wasn't driving me to go anywhere in particular and instead helped me get my name out.
I've seen families with weaker structures and coaches with different ambitions become very influential.

My school was a D1 school. A smaller conference D1 school, but I don't think that matters much in Baseball. I know a ton of guys who came out Delgado and other Juco schools who I consider better than me.
Not sure the point of your post, but it seemed as you're calling people liars. I would assume a lot of former athletes are on a sports message board. Just my guess.

Slow white boys didnt get a lot of attention @ the end of segregation, but my coaches were mostly from a small state school, and tried to steer me there,, or any of the smaller schools...i chose to forego a career tackling dummy and just went to Tiger Land & partied my arse off...
So, there Mr Perfect, suck up on that one.....
