Definitely seems to be highly coveted, but that isn't his offer list. That's his schools of interest with about half of them having offered.

Congrats, big pickup. He was next on our board after Johnson. He's a project with a very high ceiling, similar to JJ. Pros: Strong arm, quick release, accurate. Cons: blew out his knee, footwork, decision making, and he has a bit of an attitude. I wanted us to take him with JJ, but congrats

Per TideSaints on the SECrb. Being as objective as he can.....

I just disagreed with the arm strength. Other than that, pretty good breakdown.

quote:

I posted this on Page 476:

Hayden Rettig:

Rettig tore up his knee after 2 games of his Junior year so there isn't much film of him out there.

-He has nice size. Tall and thick.
-He's not a great athlete, and this was before the knee injury, but he did show some skills in moving around the pocket once it broke down.
-He looks to have an above average arm, definitely not an elite arm.
-I like his mechanics. His delivery is smooth, and he throws a pretty pass.
-I think his arm strength would increase if he set his feet and created more of a base with his legs though.
-His footwork needs a little work, but most high school QBs need work in that area. Nothing alarming for him, just needs to be more consistent in his drops.
-He appeared to lock on to one receiver a lot of the time, but he was a Sophomore so that's to be expected.
-Another kid with zero film taking a snap from under Center. (It's becoming a fricking epidemic)

All in all, this kid could be a very good player when it is all said and done. Anytime a player suffers an injury and misses significant time you wonder how they will recover, but he certainly has the tool set to be good.

I know Auburn fans like this guy and I can see why. His ranking is low right now, but with a good Senior season I could see him jump up to a 4 star and possibly be in the top 247 before February.

Does he have the chest to stick with his commitment?

Been a while since we had a pro style QB

You mean prior to Mett?

Yeah. So a year is a while?

And just for the record:

Pro Style Recruits to sign under Miles:
Zach Mettenberger - 2011
Stephen Rivers - 2011
Zach Lee - 2010
Chris Garrett - 2009
Jordan Jefferson - 2008
Jarrett Lee - 2007

Dual Threat Recruits to sign under Miles:
Jeremy Liggins - 2012
Jerrard Randall - 2011
Ryan Perrilloux - 2005

And this isn't taking into account Kiel.

Good video. The music was awful, though. Couldn't take it. Had to turn it off.

He seems to have a slow release on some of his passes. And is not super mobile - that was before the ACLU injury. But, that is nitpicking. On other passes, he got it out of there fast.

The good thing about him is that he seems to be able to make every throw, has a strong arm, and has good zip/touch on midrange passes. That is LSU's offense. I am less concerned about if a QB cancan throw 60 yards than I am if he can be effective in the 15-25 yard range. It looks like Rettig can and that is really what we need.

Great pickup. I'm excited! Hope he sticks.

I really liked the accuracy and the ability to throw accurately rolling out of the pocket.

Good arm. Smooth delivery for a young guy. He's a big kid too.

everything else you can work on and fix before he sees the field. definitely a lot to work with here.

California produces some good quarterbacks. Hopefully he can be one of the good ones.

Kincade still isn't out of the picture with LSU, nor are the other prospects. We still want to take one more I'm sure

Is this real life, or am I still asleep and dreaming? No way our QB recruiting just snagged this caliber of prospect all the way from California. PLEASE STAY WITH US HAYDEN!

This is an outstanding pick-up & as previous posters have said, the big challenge will be holding on to Rettig.

I had not noticed if his name had not been mentioned as a possible LSU recruit--maybe after not getting pledges from the likes of Bateman and Mitch, it was about time. Of course, the fact that Rettig is out of state & from that far away will make it especially challenging.

I would rather be in a position to try & hold on to a QB commitment this early, rather than still trying to get one.
