Lol there is absolutely zero chance in hell that this kid is >300lbs running a 4.9 40 and is a walk on. 4.9 would put him in the 94th percentile of DTs at the NFL combine

So apparently his mentor and trainer is none other than Houston Bates, a recruiting board legend.

Really good move for a kid like this. If some schollies are still open when the season starts, they might throw one at someone like this. I think its a great move for LSU too. Looks like the kind of guy that keeps the players on scholarship working a little bit harder.

I am still unhappy we did not land his younger brother, Master, as a recruit

He's probably only 5-11 or maybe 6-0.
And the guess is he didn't want to go to Tech or Tulane or Southern Miss, seeing as though he was weighing PWO offers at Alabama and Okie State and is now coming here.
Defensive linemen six feet and under are generally overlooked by the big schools. There are exceptions, like Drake Nevis and Mekhi Wingo, but typically those guys are at superpower high school programs or they're multisport athletes like they're great shot-putters or something, so teams recruiting them know they can overcome the size limitation.
This guy is at St. Paul's which is nobody's football powerhouse and he's white, which is generally a handicap for defensive linemen (when you see a white kid who kills it on the defensive line, he's usually got that lean, athletic, intimidating J.T. Watt physique and he's 6-5). So my guess is he got a good many scholarship offers but nothing he thought was worthwhile and he probably comes from enough money that he doesn't need an athletic scholarship to go to college somewhere.
