With the full understanding that several players will be added later.

O-Line — C+
Dumervil was a must, because outside of him, we got two solid interior guys, and a guy who is a potential position switch. This follows a 2019 class that is up in the air (one guy switched to defense, and the projected “star” suffered a big injury).

Bottom line, we should add someone. Crawford would be ideal, and would raise the score to B+. But also, O-Line is the most difficult position to project/predict - and so it is the position I am most willing take a flyer on a project that may not be highly rated.

If we add a 5th guy, grade improves to at least a B-. If we add two more guys, I would be ecstatic

Tight End — A+
Hell, we could have signed Gilbert and my neighbor’s blind chihuahua, and I would have given an A. Plus in our offense (that doesn’t rely on traditional TE blocking skills), Taylor is a nice addition due to his receiving talent

Wide Receiver — B-
Yes, I greatly wanted Jarrett. He looks like a star. But based on normal WR expectations going forward, LSU is gonna be good here.

I was vocal that I did not see any reason to sign 4 guys, but I wouldn’t mind adding a 3rd guy. But unlike the O-Line, I would not want a placeholder here. It just isn’t needed with the WR position at LSU.

Quarterback — B-
Neither signee is a can’t miss guy. But I love having two. And with Ensminger to develop them, and a QB friendly scheme, there is every reason to expect one of the two to become a very good player.

Running Back — N/A
Not a position of need, so I am okay if we get no one. But if Evans were to come, this jumps to an A

************************************

D-Line (not incl edge rushers) — B+
I love all three of our signees. But I would prefer a 4th guy. Burch would make this an A+, but I assume he is gone. Even McKinley Jackson would raise the grade to an A

Linebacker/Edge — A-
Got two inside guys and two edge guys - all four of whom look promising. Really good haul. No need to add anyone here

Secondary — B+
Taken in a vacuum (as a class unto itself), probably deserves a B-. But with us getting 4 CBs last year and a plethora of safeties on the 2021 horizon, us taking “quality over quantity” was the right approach. I really don’t feel any need to add someone here, but a 2nd safety would be fine (if they are a player).

Fair assessment. Only thing i would seriously debate would be the need to add another running back. Clyde leaves, then we are left with 3 on roster. Need at least 1 prospect!

That’s a very good point, and one I clearly overlooked. Thanks!

Good write up and I agree for the most part.

OL - agree with C+.
Need at least 1 more.
Prefer 2.
Van Pran and Crawford/Jackson.

TE - A+.

WR - C - next year is not the concern. After Chase and Marshall both leave next year is when the impact of missing both Burton and Jarrett will most likely have an impact. On a postive note there is time to still work around this potential issue.
Also, both TE recruits being receiving TE makes this less of a problem.

QB - B I really like M. Johnson.

RB - F or to be more fair an Incomplete.

Absolutely need a rb in this class.

DL - B
Good start but need at least 1 preferably 2 more.

Burch; Jackson; Unknown?

LB/Edge/Pass Rusher - solid A.

4 total with all 4 being in the top 10 at their position.

Secondary - C

Need at least 1 more.

Preferably a slot cb/safety.

Even with the disappointments it is still an excellent start with room to improve.

So you're overall grade averages out to about a B+ for a class ranked 4th in the nation. I think some of your grades are reflecting quantity as much as quality which is fine if that is the case. I would rank the QB's an A-, WR at least a B+, and an A- for the secondary.

I agree with the class being a B+ right now with the likelyhood of hitting A to A+ with 5-6 more commits.

Those grades seem a little low for the highest rated class LSU has ever signed.

Why all the downvotes on the positive posts?

We have four of the top 10! What are you considering an A?

Well, I don’t think folks are looking at my analysis as being positive. And I can understand folks on an LSU forum not wanting to read negative stuff about a brand new recruiting class.

No big surprise really...

The thing about this point is - if a kid is smart and reasonably athletic (which virtually all receiving TEs are), you can teach him the techniques to block with the hip checks, the chips, etc., maybe not to the level where Moss is now, but enough for him not to be a liability in that area.

You can't teach height or speed and generally, you can't make a stone handed kid into a reliable receiver (although catching ability can be improved to a degree with timing, repetition and so forth).

Dumervil is a Franchise LT. X. Hill is very underrated. He will be a multi year starter.

So you gave us about a 3.1 gpa with a top 5 class.

I think you’re way off.

What would a 3.8-4.0 take?

No shite
I mean I appreciate the thought that went into this, but as its been stated, this class is already rated higher than some of our full classes that finished Top 5. Any higher and we should be working on the 4.0-4.5 scale!

Why don't you wait until the class is complete to do this? This means nothing right now...

Yeah, it seems you are in agreement with the majority opinion with this. My grades are too low.
