I think y'all have some kind of penis envy about the Gumps!! Louisiana players are always overlooked when it's comes down to recruiting services. Always been that way always will. It shouldnt take a guy on the radio to tell you that we have a good class. We had the number 2 defense in college football and not 1 of them starting were 5 stars.

No penis envy means they have a bigger one than ours. No we are about even in inches. its just that all the women are bragger on theres and chicks aren't talking about us as much.

My only complaint is giving up that OL guy from Florida for that cornflake Gunner.

Some of these "star" rankings are as reliable as preseason team rankings and pre-season All-SEC or All-American teams.
2011 Pre-season rank TEAM (Final BCS Rank)
2 - Oklahoma (14)
9 - Texas A&M (NR)
11 - Notre Dame (NR)
12 - Ohio State (NR)
14 - Florida State (NR)
19 - Missouri (NR)
20 - Mississippi State (NR)
21 - Arkansas (6)
22 - Florida (NR)
25 - Miami (NR)
NR - Kansas State (8)
NR - Baylor (12)
NR - Michigan (13)
NR - Clemson (15)
NR - Georgia (16)
NR - Houston (19)
NR - Southern Miss (21)
NR - Texas (24)
How many LSU players were pre-season All-SEC 1st team? Just Morris Claiborne. shite, Stephen Garcia was 2nd team QB and JJ was 3rd team.
But the coaches named Blackwell, Hurst, Randle, Montgomery, Mathieu and Claiborne All SEC AFTER the season.
I have a lot more confidence in a good coach's ability to develop a good player into a great player than I do a recruiting guru's predicting how a HS player will perform at the next level.

That would be one of the smartest things posted on TD.com in a while related to LSU football.

The large disparity in Rankings is because Alabamas class is ridiculously loaded and it scares me.
florida's was two years ago as well. their entire d line was five stars.

Exactly. Plus we wont know for 3 years which guys were the studs in this class. Mo played from day 1, brockers started for 1 year as a rsso.
Not that five stars are bad, ware and randle haven't dissappointed me yet, pp7 lived up to his hype.

I agree. I, personally, have moved on. Hell I even said for months he was Bama bound. People need to grow up if they really let the LC decision still affect them.
If we had gotten LC, you more than likely wouldn't be hearing the crying and bitching. I'm sure you'd still have a little...well because we just have a bunch of crybabies.

Last years class was beast. There will be a solid core of players helping make runs in the future. The coaches just need to add some pieces with this class.

Even if this class was mediocre we will find some stars in there. And with the pre season hype and success of this season Next year kids will be lined up ready to play for us. 1/9/12 will be a distance memory once we run teams out of the stadium next year with Mett.
We are okay. LC will make way for next years 5 star S. GK is making way for next year 5 star QB.
Its amazing that through all of the outstanding ranked classes that Florida, USC, Ohio State and Bama get every year they don't win it each year. Its impossible. Each year is a different journey.

This is the reason the line between 1 and 10 is miniscule. Lsu is currently 7 on the most reliable and honest service Scout and will most likely finish around there after NSD. that's 7 straight top 10 finishes.

This is a fantastic post. The reason is because recruiting is only part of the process. Evaluations, development, and schemes matter as much or more. And that explains why fsu, florida, and Texas have been very mediocre with "elite" classes. IMO, elite is top 10 because player development and scheme matter more.

Guys,
You can feel fine about it. The program isn't going to fall off a cliff, but there's a reason Bamas won 2 national championships in 3 years
College football is a two way street, recruiting and coaching up. I'd say our coaching staffs are equal except Saban > Miles. Period. But we have the best defensive staff in football. The problem is that we don't have the recruiters.
We were 13-0 for a reason. We locked down the state and snagged a few OOS gems. What would this team have looked like without Brockers, Montgomery, Baker, Ware, etc. or with the top instate talent.
The scary thing is that the staff failed to recruit OOS at all. We have been nonexistent in Texas, Mississippi, and Alabama. And now for the first time in over a decade, we have serious competition instate. If you don't see that Les needs to do something, you aren't paying attention. When Alabama is in your division, it's an arms race.

Take recruiting class "rankings" w/ a grain of salt. Certainly they reflect the general quality and talent of the recruits, but, they do NOT take into account a particular team's needs and depth. Makes much more sense to assess a team's recruiting effort over a two or even three year period. A team could satisfy its skill position needs one year, then its line and linebacker needs the next. Worrying about whether your team is "ranked" No. 1 or No. 12 by some artificial ranking system is silliness. And yeah, how highly recruited were Mathieu? Claiborne? Hester?

It plain and simple we would be top 10 on every service if rivals would count Jeremy Hill. As long as we are top10 I refuse to believe we are falling behind with the way our coaches have found diamonds in the rough lately

Well, without Ware in the beginning of the year, we might not have won as many games at the beginning of the year.
And the point was that they are the kind of out of state recruits that we haven't been supplementing our LA classes with.
