Basically said when you have as many OL and LB commited, the star rankins just aren't going to be there. Mentioned guys like Derrick Raymond and Jerald Hawkins are classic Frank Wilson recruits; super athletic, versatile, and projectable.

Also said guys like Torshiro Davis, Ronnie Feist, and Vadal Alexander are just flat out top 100 guys, period, and them not being ranked as such is just a joke.

Raised my spirits about this class a bit

It's just not a flashy class. We still might can close on Patterson which can give it some flash, but he's right. LBs, lineman, those positions, not gonna make us look like we got a big class.

What makes it worse is ESPN saying Alabama has 9 Top 100 commits. bullshite

Agreed, on this.

There's certainly some guys with upside.

I think the class lacks star power, and we're going to have to trust that the staff did a killer job evaluating (which I trust for the DBs and LBs), but the rest are somewhat of a mixed bag.

I thought he looked pretty athletic in the game (more than I expected).

I would guess their rationale would be that "he didn't look like a LB", which is funny, because he's played with his hand in the dirt for his entire career. Of course he's not gonna step on the field and be as fluent as the other LBs.

Miles has impressed me with his ability to recruit and develop that 3 star or lower player - look at Brandon Lafell, Morris Claiborne, etc.

Ott and Hanagriff agreed with all that, but basically said the huge disparity in ours and Alabamas rankings and the fact that they got 2 of Louisianas top rated players still should cause some concern

Which I also agree with

The large disparity in Rankings is because Alabamas class is ridiculously loaded and it scares me.

He was consistently one of the best players on the field every snap he played. I don't have any idea how he's not top 50, to be honest.

It sucks to lose 2 top guys and even more so to that program, but honestly, we didnt have a shot with either.

Devall would be a fool to come here and play in a 4-3 and pass up the chance to play in a 3-4. He just doesnt fit our defense. Its like jakari gore or a small scat back coming here to play offense. He's just not going to get utilized properly.

With Collins, there is nothing our coaches could do to change his mind, he simply wants to leave the state. You cant really recruit against stuff like that.

Very true. Odds that LSU gets someone Alabama is even more difficult though because of Auburn.

This class fills lots of needs, but I have no problems wih the rankings. Losing Miller sucks. I like a lot of current commits' upside potential, but there aren't a glut of guys ready to come in and contribute from day one. Luckily with the depth on the roster, there's not a real need for immediate impact at virtually any position.

Good points and I guess that it makes one feel a bit better. My point is a larger one and that is why can't LSU, with top notch facilities, name recognition, championship games, and lots of publicity attract and keep the top notch 5* recruits? That's a different argument than saying our recruits are underrated or that they can be coached up. The larger point is why do we have to go after those guys and do all that? Why aren't the 'already developed' recruits interested in LSU?

We've landed tons of 5 stars the last few years.

We didn't have one five star start on defense this year. Wtf are you talking about. Guys not ready to play? We just had 2 guys grade out as 1st rounders in 3 years. A 3* and a 4*.

This is getting silly with all the fricking crybabies on this board.

espn repetitively regurgitates what supports their agenda and sells pickup trucks and tshirts. remember when usc and little petey carrol were the flavor of the month? now it's bama and little nicky saban that they're marketing. they will always marginalise what LSU accomplishes, in part, because of the quirkiness of Les and in even larger part because of the irrationality of our fanbase. Seriously people, why should espn (or any media outlet) positively illuminate the incredible success of our football program when the same people who purport to love it the most....respect it the least? and please....don't give me this garbage about how "we love LSU...but, but Les is this and JJ/JL is that because it's nothing but loser chickenshit. LSU would be far removed from the elite status they now enjoy if not for the efforts of the program as a whole.

btw....I totally agree with your assessment of the '12 recruiting class and how it is being perceived.
