I agree. LSU made a mistake.

I don't know if this has been mentioned and I admit I don't know how the early enrolling thing works, but could this have anything to do with Gunner Kiel enrolling early?

I think it has a lot to do with that. It would appear the staff basically made the decision to take Gunner over Miller with the last EE spot, and risk Miller not accepting the offer to pay his own way and going elsewhere. From a longterm program building standpoing, I'm okay with that decision, but it's still kind of a crappy thing to do to a very good player that we promised a spot to months ago.

Do you guys even read the post before you click "Post reply"?

LSU didn't make a mistake at all in this situation. Would you rather they just turn down Kiel?

Sounds like the staff took Gunner over Miller. Also sounds like the staff and the Millers have known about it since the day after Christmas (or earlier if Miles called and told them from the hunting trip).

This kind of thing doesn't happen to every school each year but it does happen each year to some recruit., especially when a school is recruiting nationally. It's not an ideal situation but it is one that does occur.

The kid is a very good player but Kiel is one of the most polished, poised and top ranked pro style quarterbacks to come along in a while. The staff had to make a decision and so did the Millers.

quote:

The Miller situation was known about prior to the day after the national championship and was communicated with Miller and his family before that date as well.

Once the options were given to the Miller family, they needed time to discuss them and make a decision. Patrick continued to convey his feeling to attend LSU but the father wasn't game for paying the spring semester tuition

It's only a mistake if you choose to take it that way. Unforeseen things happen in recruiting every day of every year. EE spots are not guaranteed by any school. It's a choice the kid makes and the school does what they can to oblige and get the kid in early. Who would you rather the staff turn away? Lamar Louis,Ronnie Feist,Dwayne Thomas? Those are LA kids and much more important in the big picture to a kid from FL. Would you rather the staff piss off LA head coaches or a random FL one? Would you rather they turn down Vadal Alexander? He is more college ready than Miller and a kid the staff liked more from the outset. Much safer bet to pan out than Miller. What about Ferguson? Ideally yes because of his position but the need for him to get in work this spring and gel with the holders and kickers is overrides a talented but raw and undersized OL. Would you rather have no viable LS on the team next year? Also have to think about the possibility that Alexander and Ferguson might be tied to one another. Maybe we should have just told Gunner Kiel that we don't have room. I'm sure that would go over real well around here. We had a 150+ page thread about Kiel's decision but I guess some would rather have Miller,a OL that is not going to contribute for a couple of years, over a potential program changing qb. Makes sense. Miller was the obvious odd man out imo.

Chinese this is not directed at you. Your post was just the last one .

This is totally false. Miles called Patrick's father on Tuesday(1/10) evening to tell him they did not have an early enroll scholarship and asked him to pay for Patrick's school this semester. That is pretty shitty treatment considering they were bringing Patrick to B.R. on Thursday morning. That is less than 48 hours notice.

Kiel can DIAF for the stunt he just pulled as far as I am concerned.

This is because we didn't have room for him to come in Jan.

Really?

If so what's the first letter of your wifes name?

Eta...you sound informed and if you're the Richard I'm thinking of we have met and have a mutual friend who knows Patrick Miller's family.

Wow! Ok... our mutual friends initials are JM. She sits with you and your wife for Saints games. I sat in the row in front of you with Alan three games this past season. I'm his nephew.

This is weird.... !

Never thought something like this would happen. Just chatted with JM earlier confirming what had happen. Feel very sorry for Patrick. Pretty crappy treatment imo.

Tigers' Law: Never pick a new OOS highly rated QB recruit over a previously committed linemen. If you do, make sure they sign the LOI or else you might not end up with either recruit.

Maybe we should compile these laws as we go. Didn't this happen with Zach Lee as well?

He was very upset. My MIL said he was stunned when his father told him. I talked to him last Thursday and he was adjusting to the sudden change in circumstances, but I think he really wanted to be in BR. The night before we were talking about going fishing this spring and summer. His sister was in town and she was thinking about going to LSU too. It is total BS the way Les handled this situation.

That's what JM told me and I don't blame him. He sounded (from what I was told) like this was more than just a choice of a good football school, it was where he wanted to be.

Yeah, I'm not thrilled with it at all. Even before I knew who he was and who he knew. She just told me last friday about him but never mentioned his name just where he was from. I put two and two together this morning when I saw where he lived and that an OL had decommitted. I texted her and she said how upset he was.

Still wowed how I got lucky and figured you out.
