Even if some players graduated in the Fall?

Doesn't anyone know what the rule is? I have no idea

I don't. It honestly irritates me that Bama finds a way to sign nearly 30 recruits and apparently we are going to hold steadfast to the new 25 limit from here on out. I know there are all kinds of other factors and moving parts, but it just still pisses me off watching it happen. I was actually venting about Saban's ways, and not worshiping him.

I don't think it has to. I'd assume you can put him in either last year's, or this year's class.

LSU didn't "lose" anyone. What was supposed to be done?

There's so much fail in this thread. First, Saban does lose recruits due to numbers. In fact my bama friend said they will lose 2-3 this year because they can't fit everyone.

Second, GTFO the fact Saban left. If not for Saban LSU would still be excited to win the independence bowl. He is a great coach but So is CLM. Last time I checked, CLM has over 80% wins and owns 2 sec titles, 1 nat title. Support LSU.

Last, quit dissing Auburn or the kid for making a choice. Miller wants to get his career started and LSU can't help him. Wish him luck and move on. LSU is loaded with blue chip OL prospects.

That is what I thought, but someone posted the rule on the SEC recruiting board and it looks like he does count to this years 85.

It is strange to me because it seems gray shirts sit out the fall and EE in the spring to get around the 85 rule. Also, Bama, who is almost always at the max 85 always has EE's in the spring.

well, this is a good thing because obviously Kiel is getting the EE spot and his commitment was only a couple of weeks ago. so, we had to make a spot for kiel and tough luck for miller.

ps. if I was miller, I would walk also.

Did Miller know Kiel was going to decommit from Notre Lame and commit here. Obviously Kiel made it one too many EEs so something had to be done

Doesn't this number get surpassed almost every summer? It just has to get trimmed down by a certain date before the season. Well now the season is over so now this makes no sense to me. I am getting completely thrown for a loop on a lot of things I thought I had a grasp on about recruiting.

They do, but some players leave in the spring off the 85 man roster thus opening up the spot for the greyshirt or EE guy.

Plus if you are a gray shirt you have to pay your own way, right?

I sure hope so. I really hope that it means that LSU is about to grab a recruit that is high on their recruiting board.

Just doesn't seem right. The kid didn't enroll, and didn't attend class until 2012. Why would a school be forced to place him in the 2011 recruiting class?

Not forced to put him in the 2011 recruiting class, forced to count him towards the 2011-2012 academic year limit of 85 scholarship players. That is the way I read the rule, anyway.

I guess if there is some attrition between the fall and spring semesters, it opens up room under the 85 limit. It sounds like the LSU insider is saying there wasn't enough room under the 85 limit to get all of the EEs in and Miller was the odd man out.

Sounds like he could have waited and enrolled in the summer at LSU or he could drop LSU and enroll at AU now.

Here is the rule
quote:

15.5.6.3.2 Recruited Student-Athlete Entering after Fall Term, Aided in First Year. [FBS/FCS] A student-athlete recruited by the awarding institution who enters after the first term of the academic year and immediately receives institutional financial aid (based in any degree on athletics ability) shall be an initial counter for either the current academic year (if the institution’s annual limit has not been reached) or the next academic year. The student-athlete shall be included in the institution’s total counter limit during the academic year in which the aid was first received.
So yes there is a limit on the number of EE you can take in. It is based on the overall scholarship limitation of 85.
Has nothing to do with counting in whatever 25, but has everything to do with the total 85 person limit. Apparently LSU is at their limit of 85 people in the spring. It does not go on 2011 or 2012 it is the academic year which is fall and spring semester.

Edit: Seems logical that with Gunner coming in so late he got the EE spot of Miller. Miller did not want to wait until the fall to start school/football so he went to Auburn who had a spot on the 85 man roster pretty simple, but still sucks to loss a talent like Miller none the less. Having said that I would trade Gunner for Miller given the O-lineman they have brought in the last couple of years.

Hey Prominent, I want to ask you something. It has nothting to do with this thread so sorry in advance. Anyway do you think Tigerdroppings actually has a negative effect on LSU football? I have been on the fence about this because I just can't imagine too many of the players or recruits reading this website but then I will see something in the news that originated on Tigerdroppings. After Monday night its seems like LSU is being put into such a negative light. I just wanted your opinion.
