Trovon Reed

#1 kid in the state 2010 I think, went to Auburn. Actually met him in an airport couple years later, nice kid.

Berlin and Josh Booty both went to Evangel. All the Bible-thumping fundamentalists in central Louisiana, especially the bigwigs in the Assemblies of God headquarters in Alexandria—were enraged when ASH’s Craig Nall was named the starter over Booty.

Yeah, I went and played for Benton high and that was over the 2001-2004 seasons, we didn’t get to play varsity as freshman. But, yeah during that period it was rumored that evangel was just recruiting players. It seems like a Christian academy would frown upon their coaches recruiting all over the 318 but it’s never been proven.

John David booty was evangels qb when I was at Benton. It’s crazy that lsu couldn’t get but 1 of the 3 elite qbs from evangel. Why is that? Did josh booty have a negative experience at lsu that soured the relationship between evangel and lsu , just for quaterbacks?
Because we have gotten a good bit of talent from evangel. I guess they felt that lsu wasn’t a fit for their particular skill set?

RIP Bayou Bash

The Atrium at the Belle of Baton Rouge was electric when they showed Xavier Carter track highlights in 2004. Buddy Songy was busting a nut.

Not sure why I read that as Berlin and not JDB

You're correct, my bad

I don't think Abram Booty had a great love affair with LSU & Josh got his fair share of criticism too.

Yep. The guy that shot him was convicted of manslaughter by a 10-2 jury vote and sentenced to 30 years, but he's getting a new trial. Last year, the Supreme Court ruled that Louisiana law allowing non-unanimous votes to convict was unconstitional so the guy that shot McKnight may eventually go free.

Cecil Collins signs with LSU.

Reporter: “Cecil, why would you pick LSU when they already have Faulk, Mealey, and others in front of you?”

Collins: “Cuz I’m betta den all dem.”

Man some of these names bring me back. Amazing the melts over a whole lot of guys that never went on to do much of anything.

You'll notice the kids who have wild recruitments often times carry that immaturity with them to college and never amount to anything.
