OL Recruiting Comparison (Long and Boring)
Posted on 11/29/20 at 6:04 pm
Posted on 11/29/20 at 6:04 pm
I updated the table I made a few months ago to include new recruits and a few more interesting statistics. It seems most teams will be sitting at 13+ OL after this next class. Most teams take about 4 OL every class and schools like Bama, Georgia, and Ohio State are in a league of their own, by far, when it comes to stockpiling top talent at OL.
How does this relate to LSU? Well, (very) obviously, we need to recruit more OL. I would say we need to recruit more OL than the average team until we can consistently develop elite players (4/year minimum with the goal being 5). Mullen recruited 12 OL in his first two years at Florida.

This is exactly how Florida St fell apart.

It is very scary because ou can make an argument that they have recruited better than us the past 3 years. You could POTENTIALLY say Thomas is a bust and his ranking brings ours up a good bit.

This is 19, 20, and 21. All of the classes Cregg has recruited.
Posted on 11/29/20 at 8:35 pm to hall59tiger
I’m sorry but Cregg needs to go. This is how we end up like Florida state. I don’t give a frick about how good he is at coaching them; if this is the best he can recruit, he simply cannot be our OL coach. Cannot. C-a-n-n-o-t.

Is Perry gone? He was in the same class as Thomas, Badford & Turner wasn't he?

I think he was slowed by injury.

Good catch. I just edited with him in there

Not quite sure what your referring to but our o line has been dog shite every year he’s been here sans last year and they were super overrated and bailed our constantly by Joe and Clyde. He can’t recruit and he can’t coach. Cool he hit on Lewis and that’s about it. Ingram, Hines and Deculus have all regressed.
This man needs to go like yesterday. Everyone is giving Pelini shite and rightfully so but this is Cregg’s 3rd year and our o line has been dog shite.

Are you insane. They won best o-line of the year last year. Lost 4 of 5 starters and you want to fire everyone now. I hope you got no enjoyment from last year because you don't deserve any with your piss poor attitude.
Go root for someone else, we are better without yoh

Granted, I didn't focus much on OL play of other teams so maybe we really had the best OL. But TBH, I didn't think our OL was that special last year.
I think Burrow, our play calling, and the fact we didn't sub a lot on possessions helped our OL out.

Never said fire everyone. Sorry im critical of a coach who has done a piss poor job sans one year because I want my team to do well.

Boise State and Cincy both have 2 OL committed that are in the top 130. We have 1....Seems like we should reach down and swipe a few guys.

You could POTENTIALLY say Burrow is a bust. It would be nonsense, but you could say it. Kardell has been INJURED.

Ehh, I see what you are saying but that is not comparing apples to apples. As of now, there is no evidence that Thomas has the ability to be elite. He could end up being the best OG LSU has ever had or a bust. No way to know right now.
