I dont get some parents. You raise your kid so he will be prepared to go at life on his own. Then, hes presented an opportunity to go to an exclusive place where his talents will thrive, and hes in the best position to accomplish his dreams, and parent says no, because its too far away from her. This is like one of us making our kid turn down a free ride to Harvard so they can go to ULL....all because mom willbe closer and able to do his laundry while hes at class. Things like this hurt the kid in the long run. Mom needs to get her head out of her arse and see what she is doing to her kid. He doesnt want to be there, and it is not in his best interest. To be there.

Brian Kelly and Crew had an in-home with Gunner last night.

He flipped after that.

He was supposed to be in a meeting at 3pm Monday in BR, no?

Sounds like Kelly got wind that he didn't get on a plane to go down to BR and made a visit...

So you think a recruit could be influenced by negativity on message boards but not by the nationwide perception that a coach played favorites and horribly mismanaged his QBs?

I'm speaking in general about negativity from a fanbase and recruiting, not about this particular situation.

Distance and the mother were a factor here. Anyone trying to blame the results of one game on this are just using wishful thinking so they can bash.

Could be more personal reasons as well, you don't know. Deteriorating health of an immediate family member or something. Maybe the parents wanted him closer so they could afford to see him play more often. Could be a number of reasons that are legit. The real world is a whole lot different than the perceived.

Dos you knoiw and I know all families are not created equal. Some kids love thier parents and some you read about them killing the whole family .It also has alot to do with how kid is treated and what family had as far as material things.Poor kids have a sense of wanting to better themselves so leaving home is great for their situation,Kids with folks with money don't want to leave paradise or the money tree. Also kids that come from families that have lots of love for each other find it hard to leave home.I read where Kiel family have that love for each other.

Kelly already had in home visit so that would be a reason for probation, not sure about that visit happening yesterday.

And Kiel decommitted after the BCS title game. Doesn't it seem that his defection had something to do with watching Jefferson floudering on the field while there were other capable QB's sitting on the bench. Not just Lee, but also Mett and Rivers.

Mason....convenience and wanting to watch your kid play are not legitimate rasons to douse your kids dreams.....they are selfish reasons. A sick family member, while sad, is also not a good reason. You think if im sick and dying I would want my kid/nephew to give up his dream to stick around and watch my demise???

BK used his in-home visit weeks ago, so that is wrong.

im sure the kiels met with the irish staff, but it certainly wasnt "in-home" visit.

considering the rumors from ND students that they saw kiel on campus yesterday, its much more likely kiel and BK met while he was on campus completing his admissions paperwork.

all ND sites are reporting this morning that they expect kiel to enroll at ND today but are unsure when the news will be made public/official.

I'm sure Miles and the QB situation weren't even mentioned in that meeting. No coach would stoop low enough to use another coach's mistake against him.

REALLY????

So LSU is Harvard to ND's ULL. Give me a freakin break.

ND education far exceeds LSU. And ND football training is not that far below LSU if at all.

I kept feeling deja vu and couldn't put my finger on why. Then I remembered...Tito Horford. Different situation in many ways, but both were highly recruited, highly prized, and the uncertainty when they suddenly no-showed feels very, very similar.

Yes, I am that old.

Good Lord, imagine if we'd had the internet then.

Don't know, just using your argument about mom not being happy now.

Maybe she figured she could talk him out of it before his departure.Maybe she thought she could handle his leaving but at last minute found out that she couldn't.

If true, that's much worse than thought. She allowed her son to announce his intentions to attend, knowing she would influence to change his mind, costing LSU not only her son, but another prized signee? Talk about the epitome of self centered, selfishness, for a family.

If you have kids you can understand this.I for one couldn't wait for my two kids to leave the nest my youngest girl has blown the coup and I wish she would come back home.

I have kids, I love them dearly, which means I want what's best for them, not me. So no, I don't understand. I didn't raise them to be short sighted pussies.

I'm sending two kids to college right now. While I want what's absolutely the best for them, there are circumstances beyond one's control that cause you to make certain decisions. If you think finances and health aren't legitimate reasons, then you have a lot to learn about life...no offense.
