He is a junior with 3 to play 2.

Schools can go over their 25/85 limits to accept Penn State transfers this year. If they do, then they have to reduce their 25 initial counter limit and 85 total limit in 2013. We are not over the 25 initial counter limit this year so it has no effect on any of our future signing class/initial counter limits. Depending on where we currently are with the 85 it may have a small impact on the 85 total next season.

Also, Krags made it a priority to inform Rettig and Jennings about this before they even considered getting in touch with Bolden.

Don't worry about them, they know that they won't be competing against Bolden

Don't mind, but LINK???

Can he play another position since he's considered a dual threat?

Bring as many top notch QBs in as you can and let them compete. The kids that can't win the job transfer and the rest who choose to stay leave with a ring and a chance to play in the league.

Nice pickup LSU!

He was dead last in passing/passing eff as a frosh. He lost his job his soph yr to a qb he beat out the yr before. All I remember is his wetting the bed in the red zone against bama in 2010 and being awful in his bowl game last yr. I hope he never has "meaningful" snaps. That would mean Mett fails or becomes injured. "Strong Arm".............meh. (ducking)

After arriving on campus in June, Bolden beat out two sophomores, Kevin Newsome and Matt McGloin, and another highly recruited freshman, Paul Jones, to win the starting quarterback job for the first game of the 2010 season against Youngstown State. Bolden becomes the first true freshman quarterback under head coach Joe Paterno to start the opening game of the season, and the first since Wally Richardson in 1992 to start any game of their freshman season.[3] Bolden was also the first true freshman quarterback at Penn State to start the season since Shorty Miller in 1910.[4] On his decision to name Bolden as the starting quarterback, Paterno said, "He has got an arm, he's got a little poise, he did some things a little better than the other guys on more occasions. There are days I came off the field not knowing who I wanted to play."[5]

Bolden played his first collegiate football game on September 4, 2010 for the Nittany Lions in the season opener against Youngstown State. Despite a shaky beginning, Bolden exhibited an overall solid performance in front of a home crowd of 101,213, in Penn State's 44-14 rout of Youngstown State, finishing 20-29 for 239 yards passing for two touchdowns and one interception.[6]

Against Alabama, he turned in a strong performance between the 20s, going 13-29 for 144 yards, but two red zone interceptions cost the Lions chances to stay in a closer than the score 24-3 loss to Alabama. Bolden had an up-and-down day in a 24-0 shutout of Kent State, after a monster first quarter, the offense struggled, but the defense played with enough enthusiasm that the offense had already done enough to win in the first quarter, but Bolden finished 12-27 for 217 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Against Temple, he went 18 for 28 for 223 yards and no TDs. Against Iowa, Bolden went 20-37 for 212 yards and an interception. Penn State lost the game 24-3 after Bolden threw an interception that went for an opposing touchdown at the end of the game.

Bolden had a tough day on homecoming going 8 for 21 for 142 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He threw an 80-yard play-action touchdown pass following his second pick six of the year. Against Minnesota, he rebounded, going 11 for 13 for 130 yards and one touchdown before suffering an injury on an option play. He was pulled from the game with a concussion and was relieved by McGloin, who went 6 for 13 for 76 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. McGloin was named the starting quarterback following three straight wins in Bolden's absence, including the comeback win against Minnesota.[7][8]

On January 2, 2011, Rob Bolden Sr. announced his son's plans to transfer out of Penn State. On January 3, Bolden and his father met with head coach Paterno and quarterbacks coach Jay Paterno in State College, Pennsylvania, to discuss the transfer. Paterno informed Bolden that he would not grant a release from his scholarship. Bolden decided to then stay at Penn State and not transfer.[9]

On January 2, 2012, Bolden started in the place of Matt McGloin, who had been injured in a locker room fight with teammate Curtis Drake, in the TicketCity Bowl against Houston. Bolden and the Nittany Lions struggled and lost 30-14. Bolden completed a poor 7 of 26 passes for 137 yards, one touchdown pass, and three interceptions. He also rushed six times for 16 yards.

OFFICIAL: Former PSU QB Robert Bolden trans to LSU (2010 4*, Orchard Lake, MI) quote: He'll be an incoming junior with two years to play two. He's an insurance policy behind Mett, that's it. The coaches aren't comfortable enough with Rivers at this point for him to be the primary backup heading into this season. This

This. This.

Fantastic! If Mett goes down, Bolden can step in. Rivers and Randall, both RSFR are not ready to take the reigns yet. Apparently, Bolden would be further along. This shores up the one major area of concern: depth at QB. We all knew that we were one Mett injury away from the season being wrecked. This makes it salvageable if Mett goes down.

He isn't likely to redshirt and stay here 3 years, but he was a true freshman in 2010 and most definitely has 3 to play 2.

We haven't even made it to the first game yet and Les is looking at a replacement for JJ!
None of us could make it through a season without yet another QB controversy involving an accurate passer vs. a scrambler that can't the ball to our stellas receivers!

He has 3 to play 2 since he never redshirted, but I would guess that part of the deal is that he won't redshirt (barring some kind of early season injury). He will never count against the 25; he will not count against the 85 this year; but he will count against the 85 next year, and while that could restrict the number of signings this Feb, the most likely result would be another attrition casualty.

NO SHITE! I'm not a negatiger, but, that's the last damn thing we need. We need to wipe those days from our memory. His bio screams Quincy Carter. Big, fast, strong arm, #2 national ranking, and a below average career for such high accolades. I understand he's not coming here to be our Russell Wilson. If he's a better option if a #2 is needed, then, so be it. It does help perception that the program can attract such high profile transfers and it will ease pressure/development timeline of incoming QB's. We don't need another JL situation, either. By that, I mean forcing a kid in way too early and having his confidence damaged the rest of his career. Anyway, Welcome to Baton Rouge, Robert.
