at the time, I agree with a caveat for me--what appeared to be best for LSU.

I agree. RR already has the message "special treatment". Lord only hopes he does not hope to receive special treatment ala a previous player no longer with LSU.

can anyone explain the affirmation between DB and LSU on tuesday?

if benton was worried about PT at LSU b/c of RR and wanted to go to Auburn insetad of LSU if RR came here, why reaffirm on tuesday?

Anyone not saying this was pretty shitty by Miles is lying. If Randle or his dad didn't want competition, they could have gone elsewhere. Running off a kid who's willing to compete and has worked his arse off for two years to qualify is completely ridiculous.

I'm very dissapointed in Miles for this. I've supported him the entire time he's been here, after the UT loss, all this season, but he made a mistake on this one.

i agree with the sentiment, but miles has a job to do, win football games. he need the best players he can get to do that, and we as fans expect nothing less. let miles lose out on both because he took your position and you can imagine the response of the fan base, us. he was put in a tough spot and had to make a tough call, and he made it and was proud to see him take ownership of it instead skirting the issue.

Who knows what really went on. Could be that Chiz started to recruit him really hard and the guy has only been at Auburn for a short time so the late visit does make sense....

I don't know what to think. On one hand, I'm not happy with Miles pulling the scholarship, but on the other hand Benton did visit a rival right before NSD, and it took him 2 years to get qualified.

The really weird thing is that our academic rejects normally go to Oklahoma....

If you recall- Miles answered the question posed to him about Benton....BEFORE he had received formal fax from RR indicating that he would sign. The LOI came in shortly after his answer. Which brings me back to my earlier post-why did it take 5 hours to fax that in????

I thought D-Lo took that Auburn visit without permission anyway? Maybe I'm wrong. I mean, Benton was given special treatment for 2 years as a case of "oh, little buddy, you'll be here soon if you decide to apply yourself." I think he's a hell of a gamer having seen him play, but we all know that the meltdown would have been even worse if Miles had told RR to go elsewhere because we were staying true to Benton. Someone had to go, and while I'm sure Benton's a good kid, there's no reason to lose a 3.8GPA, all-universe receiver over it. He had his chance...twice.

I feel bad for Benton. Seemed like he was doing everything to qualify only to have Miles pull this last minute stunt because the Randle's had a hissy fit. Sad.

What happened to Benton sucks, but Miles made the best decision for the university. Benton has had years to qualify and is a huge risk to not play due to academics at LSU, Randle is the #1 rated WR and is ready to go. Of Coarse we would love to have both, but in an either/or scenario you have to go with the guy that you can count on. Just sucks for Benton is all.

Your right D-mitch. None of us know the real story. However, perception is reality.

What we do know, is what is been said on a radio station in monroe, what is quoted in the paper by miles and bradshaw.

So far, those three public statements are pretty consistant. I'm sure you know more than I. however, all we have to go on is what information we have. The perception is a ultimatum was laid down. That's what it appears like from the radio interview tuesday afternoon, bradshaw's comments, and miles comments.

Does that make your father a bad parent. No. He want's, what he feels, is best for his son. Can't fault a dad for that.

We can be good people and make mistakes. I'm just saying, whomever is responsible, should clear the air that has been muddied due to people going public. Once you go public, then it opens the doors for the public to evaluate what you say. Why else would you go public if you didn't want the public to know what you wanted them to know?

If it's d-lo, then he or bradshaw should clear the air. If it's miles, then he's getting what he deserves. If it's someone else, then don't let the perception be reality.

I agree with this and hate the fact that he would pull one recruits offer to please another recruit. (Although it happens all the time)

HOWEVER, Benton had two chances to get into LSU and couldn't do it. If the coice is between a guy who can't get it together and a guy who's got it all together. You reward the guy who has worked hard on AND off the field.

Think of it this way, if Benton would have taken care of his academic business last year or the year before, he would already be enrolled as a Tiger and would probably be the expected starter opposite Lafell for next season. Now, RR would be competing against TT for the 3rd wideout spot this year instead of competing against Benton {which he was supposedly afraid to do.} Papa Randle wouldn't be as upset because he would know Lafell and Benton would most likely be gone after this coming season and RR would be the no. 1 receiver after that. So, Benton has no one to blame but himself for not being an LSU TIGER. Personally I wish we had them both but under the current situation MIles did the riht thing and did what he had to do for HIS program. Benton has always been and still will be an academic risk. Even if he does make it onto the field in Auburn, it will only be for 1 or maybe 2 years before he will enter the NFL draft whereas we get RR for at least 3 years!!!

Who's to know if Benton could even cut it in collegiate classes full time? I mean they arent taking rocket science in LA public schools to begin with.
