We can only pull the kids the staff evaluates as takes, why should we offer a OT or OG if they aren't SEC caliber players, You should take players that your system will work with. The star rating is not a true indication of how player will measure up in college. We have to continue to breed competition and expect excellence from our players and trust the process!

Can we proclaim Raymond as the GOAT DB recruiter if he manages to sign the #1 and #2 CBs in the country in this class? Would be insane.

Shea Dixon seems pretty sure he will end up at LSU, from what he's said recently.

Cole Smith has been to three State home games included turing down seeing us in Oxford so he could be in Starkville instead. We are going to have to battle Miss State to keep him.A lot of State ties going on there and he is a State fan.

Right. He's from Pontotoc, isn't he? Don't they have season tickets to State games? Did I read his dad play at State?
What's he doing being committed to us in the first place? Doesn't make much sense, but he's been committed for a while now, so who knows?

LSU offered over the summer at camp. At that time Miss St hadn’t offered and it didn’t look like they were going to. I still don’t think he flips.
Mullen has been begging to get out of Starkville and he may have a good enough season for that to finally happen.

This is one I'm really worried about for a few reasons:
1. He's obviously a big state fan and visiting there constantly
2. These Mississippi kids seem to string us along and then slap us in the face in the end every single year
3. If we lose Smith, who is the obvious OC commit in this class, and Clapp left, we only have Cushenberry to play center next season, which would just continue to leave us in this never ending saga of issues on the OL

New 2018 class prediction from JimmyPosted on 10/31/17 at 9:10 am
382
Includes Anthony Cook, doesn't include Harold Joiner which may be an oversight.
LINK
CB - Patrick Surtain Jr
WR- Terrace Marshall
CB - Anthony Cook
S - Kelvin Joseph
WR/ATH - Justin Watkins
WR - Lawrence Keys
QB - James Foster
TE - Glenn Beal
OT - Badara Traore
LB - Andrew Chatfield
DL - Michael Williams
Maybe:
APB - Pooka Williams
I agreed with all that (but with a few additions like a DT, maybe Michael Thompson or Dominic Livingston or one of a few others, and Harold Joiner and one of several additional OL prospects, like , Dylan Wonnum or Damien Lewis), when he made that prediction list, but after that, mega-CBs came out for Chatfield to MIA (which was his long desired 1st choice, but with no offer, and the offer came, thus the CBs), and now there is talk of Ardarius Washington flipping to TCU. Jimmy said there were only 16 current commits, without explanation, but I'm assuming he dud not count Griffin (following Chatman/Anderson) and Moore (bad JUCO grades, skipping classes), but now it looks like Washington may be vacating his spot, opening up some space.
We can do 3 DBs, but if they are all elite, and only if we add a LB that can drop and cover pass defense, like Brule' or Foucha or Robertson.
We really need 5 WRs, or to add three elite WRs (if one fails to qualify or flips away).
Joiner is probably coming to LSU.
Chatfield probably isn't coming to LSU, and neither is Fox, most likely.
Also, Lawrence Keys III is now, currently, most likely headed out of state again, probably to ND. I would substitute either Kamryn Babb or Anthony "Pooka" Williams for Keys III.
LSU must have at least 1 elite DT, like Michael Thompson or Trevor Trout or Bobby Brown or Keondre Coburn, or else at least add another DT with Hines to ensure quality through numbers, cull later, and in which case, must add at least 2 more OL, likely OTs, such as Traore and Dylan Wonnum or someone elite, as Hines must be replaced.
Accomplishing all that likely requires a large class and/or more attrition than the 3 mentioned above, which is most likely to occur at WR, if DBs are cut to 3 already. Another path is to upgrade at DT or pass on adding another LB - but we would be thinner at LB if we do that, losing 5 or 6, and only replacing with 3 or 4, max. LB in 2018/2019 could be the problem like DL was this year ...
Another option is to beg McMillan to stay and not add a QB..., and go with only 3 QBs. (Arguably, however, LSU should even add 2 more this cycle for a fresh QB contest and for depth - like Foster and Baldwin, or Bohanon or Rogers).
LSU needs to find a way to take 29 in this class, with some attrition to make it all work at 29 new signees.

We only have 2 OL committed right now, with Hines reclassified as an NT. Cole Smith and Cam Wire are the two OL commits. IMO, we need at least five, given all the transfers.
I would agree, but only if you count Glenn Beal as part of the 5 new OL, otherwise, 5 OL plus Beal, as the in-line blocking TE in the mold of Dillon Gordon would be a little over the top, a little too much, leaving less room for the stellar 2019 OL class expected. We need to replace who we lose, plus add a couple more for comfortable depth, but still leave room for an expectedly large and higher quality 2019 class, imo.

We have like 8-DL projected and 2-OL right now
Alleva talked to O about the un balanaced classes it was reported upon hire. Doesn't seem like it took.
Way to many DL in this class imo
Aleva can a... leave.
Have you watched the games this season ? Notice we are very pourous and soft in the middle ?
They are counting OLB/edge rushers in the head count on DL, which is wrong to do, or misleading at best.
Who you really have right now, with one having at least 1 foot out the door:
1. DT - Cotton
2. DT - Rosenthal (who is really an OT)
3. DT - Nelson Jenkins (who has a hard time playing with an injured finger, and appears injury prone);
4. DT - Chasen Hines (who is really an OG)
and
5.??? SDE/DT - Jashaun Griffin (1 of the 3 Romans,2 of whom flipped).
Dantrieze Scott MAY grow into a 5tech 3-4DE, maybe, but until then, he is an OLB/edge rusher in a 3-4 base defense, or a 4-3 DE. You cannot count him as a DT or in the front 3 in a 3-4 D until and unless he grows.
The same is true about Jarez Moore, who is already a JR, a JUCO, who has seen most of his growth, is an edge rusher OLB, and he is likely not going to qualify due to poor grades in JUCO from skipping classes (rumors have it). So you cannot count him as DL, regardless.
Jarell Cherry is an edge rusher OLB like Arden Key, he only counts as DL as part of a 4-3 Defense, not in our 3-4 Base Defense.
Thats it for the so called "DL" - 4 DTs, 2 of whom are really OL trying their hand at DL, just as likely to change to OL later on when need or the light comes on for them; one who is on their way out, and the best of whom is slightly undersized (Cotton) and the least capable of whom is injury prone and needs work.
If they are serious about Hines on the DL, they need some insurance. The best works as well as more, just-serviceable adds, so why not add Michael Thompson or someone else elite, if you can. No one in the list above is elite. But if not, at least add another for insurance thru numbers, like Dominic Livingston, and cull the dead wood, if any, quickly.
As alluded to, 2 of the DL are really OL, so one view is that adding Traore plus TE Glenn Beal, who is likely to grow into a LT size, is all you really need because if necessity dictates, you can move Hines and/or Rosenthal back to OL - Hines has said he will play where needed by the team, but prefers DL. Rosenthal insists on DL, but when the ignorance factor wears off and the $-light comes on (what OT/LTs make in the NFL compared to others, he will likely switch to OT). But in case he or they don't or do, you must hedge against both eventualities - thus you will be slightly light on OL and slightly heavy on DL. This is Jimmy's position on the OL.
Still, I would take 2 OTs plus Beal on the OL, if possible, and add at least 1 more DT if possible - upgrade if you can, and have to do, in order to make it work. I say add 1 more to be safe on OL, 1 more to be safe on the DL, and maybe upgrade 1 on the DL if posdible or necessary.
At least one if not 2 of these guys is critical to LSU's DL future:
Michael Thompson (LSU was once his leader, warm LSU)
Trevor Trout (long term warm on LSU)
Rick Sandidge (SoCar lean, was warm on LSU)
Keondre Coburn (flip)
Bobby Brown (flip, post season)
Antwuan Jackson Jr. (ExAUB JUCO OhSt commit, flip)
Or at least add one of these guys:
Tayland Humphrey (expressed interest in LSU after offer)
Christian Barmore (LSU in top 5)
Dominic Livingston (decommitted Ta&m to consider LSU)
Jeffery Johnson (has been warm on LSU in past)
The list of prospects for the OL adds is still very, very long, and the true leading prospects remain a mystery (until one commits out of nowhere again), but plainly these are included as top, top candidates:
JUCO OT - Badara Traore
OT/OG/OL - Dylan Wonnum
JUCO OG - Damien Lewis
But the list of other possibilities is still very long and would include all the Ta&m commits who may be ripe to flip if Kevin Sumlin gets fired, as well as the top FL OL prospects, Petit-Frere, Barnes, Gouraige, and even a few more, still includes Rafiti Ghirmai as a possible flip, and a few not yet offered, like: Jerome Carvin (from TN).

New 2018 class prediction from Jimmy

What the hell is Grimes doing????
Grimes is extremely overrated. I mean ridiculously overrated. Think of the fact that all his great recruit gets have been busts including 5* OTs.
In the end, he's not a good coach, and that is what will hurt LSU in the end. People really need to appreciate what Les did for this OL. It was a strength of this team most years because of him more than anything else when it came to developing players.
Now with O in charge, it is all on Grimes, and he's just not good.
I think this latest game vs uAL just blows this hypothesis out of the water (thank God).
Grimes seems challenged right now on the recruiting trail, but last year's haul was all home runs (those that made it).
His personality in person can come off very gruff, however, when not on his guard and best behavior. I saw him needlessly offend a bunch of parents once with poor tact and condescension (he was basically a total dick to some parents - and he didnt need to be under the circumstances - we all collectively rolled our eyes about it). Not sure if he rubs parents the wrong way at times on the trail, one on one, or not. But I've also heard him be the complete opposite as well, I've heard him be charming and nice and appealing. So, who knows, except he is getting the job done with who we got left.
Dont get me wrong, some coaches, especially linemen coaches, need to be a little bit mean in order to get their jobs done. But there's a time and place for that, and its not at a recruiting event in front of a group of parents, not knowing who they are. Dude seemed real stressed at that moment, so I give him a pass, personally, but I been watching him intently, very closely, ever since. If he gets the job done, great, if not, I wont shed any tears about cutting him lose, I'll say that much. He needs to do his job to keep it. Right now, he's doing his job. But he needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat and land a big OT or OG commit in addition to or else in lieu of, Traore.
Edit: the fact that Saadique Charles is working out so well at LT, surprisingly, is really helping out right now, creating more options in who they need to recruit. I think a JUCO is not necessarily who they need, first and foremost now, anymore. It is more important to land someone (a top HS recruit) like Dylan Wonnum, or Trey Hill, or Wllie Barnes or Petit-Frere or Gouraige, or Jackson Carman, than Traore. Traore would be icing on a cake, however. You take him too.

If we land Jason and Marshall, could they both start next year and are there other Wide Receivers that their game is comparable to.
Yes, and yes.
Comparable players would be Jalen Hall, Kamryn Babb, and Jalen Preston (Ta&m commit that LSU basically slow played to focus on Chase and Marshall, but who had keen LSU interest, among others now committed elsewhere).

D. Jason will be a Tiger....
I'm curious what makes you say this. I get that same vibe or feeling too, based on observations of what he does that seems pro-LSU and it seems mutually reciprocated, but then I hear what he says, and it robs me of any confidence I had built up prior to hearing him speak about his rrcruiting status. Dude is very hard to get a firm read on. I just cannot tell for certain.
Do you have personal information to enlighten us all with, or is that just a gut feeling you get ? Nothing wrong with the latter, but I'm just hoping you got some good inside 411.
Thanks.

Wouldn't Harold Joiner be a good enough addition at RB, if LSU can get a commitment from him?
