Who is LSU's priority: Devall or Phillips? Which is the better prospect?

Haha. Because we like our chances with Devall who we've been all over? To date we haven't beaten LSU head to head for a single Louisiana recruit. We realize that.

Just a neutral observation.

Did you even attend A&M?

If you did, I have a good feeling that you are one of those sunshine pumpers on TexAgs

Yes I actually went to LSU and A&M. Why have you been dodging my attempts to put you up to the bet you offered?

Both are top 250 prospects. I think I remember memphisplaya posting he thought Phillips was higher priority. I hope they both are high on priority. I have my own question.

would they play 2 different LB positions in chavis's system? If so, then I am sure we are giving them both the full court press.

Phillips ran a 4.7 40 at the last camp if that means anything.

It is fairly shocking to me how all of a sudden A&M is starting to recruit well.

It isn't that shocking considering that A&M had some success last year. Beat Texas, OU, and Nebraska.

Recruiting isn't always intuitive. Sometimes the kids see a program on the rise and they see an opportunity. That's how we got Marcus Spears and Michael Clayton, etc. to sign on back when we weren't that good.

And nobody is the next Von Miller.

Von Miller sucked arse against LSU, fwiw. He was consistently getting sucked into the wrong position. He made a few plays but we really did neutralize him.

It's all based on momentum..

LSU pre-Saban and A&M now are very similar programs. Teams that had success in the past but went through extended stretches of average or losing seasons. They had some decent/good recruiting classes in that stretch, but nothing great and those classes never really translated into much. Both had/have rabid fan bases, exceptional facilities and dominant home field advantages. Both are also located in and around extremely fertile recruiting grounds. I remember in the 90's the expectations that LSU was about to break through were there every season, but they could never get over the hump..

There is one huge difference that you are over-looking. LSU is the only big time football program in Louisiana.

A&M has to fend off Texas, a host of other in state schools, plus OU, Okie State, LSU, and more and more...Arkansas.

Texas is larger than most of the states in the SEC combined. LSU can't run a top program off of LA recuits alone. They have to recruit Florida, Georgia, etc. All while Bama, Ole Miss, and A&M amongst others recruit in Louisiana.

I think LSU might have better potential for staying power but it's not like A&M can never sustain success because LSU and OK St recruit in Houston and OU recruits Dallas.

Right, but Texas is a much larger state with far more potential division 1 players.. Other schools have recruited the area very well while A&M has been on life support (Okie State in particular), but that will probably cease to be the case if they follow up with a good season in 2011.

Correct, which is part of A&M's problem. It is all about Houston.

Uh....not really. They don't get guys we want. Bama has gotten one or two....debatable. Tennessee got one.

Ole Miss & A&M? No.

You were the one laughing. But I see Von Miller getting caught up in the wrong position a lot, especially against the run.

He makes some plays in the backfield, no doubt. That is what he does.

But we were also very successful in using his aggressiveness against him. He lost contain on Jefferson's TD run, for instance. That happened a few times throughout the game.

I just wasn't impressed given all the hype about the guy. He is certainly talented and seems like a great guy.

The same could be said about the game PP played in the Cotton Bowl, but I watched most of LSUs games and know he's better than he showed in the Cotton Bowl.

When Von is selected #2 or #3 in the draft it will speak for the player he is (definitely not over hyped)

FTR, I think PP and Von are the two best players in the draft

Until Curley Hallman came along, LSU NEVER had more than two losing seasons in a row.
