The thing is, if RR et al had a problem with Benton coming to LSU, was this concern expressed to Les Miles prior to yesterday's radio show? If not, why not? One can view LSU's roster very easily and its pretty common knowledge over the past 2 years that Benton has committed to LSU, so 'numbers' aren't some mystery one has to unravel at the last minute. This mess ( yes, that's what it is - a mess ) is either on the Randals for not communicating this concern to Les earlier or on Les for not communicating the change in direction to Benton earlier. And in the end, Benton is the one who gets screwed.
Either way, if for some reason you happen to read this DB, a big apology to you from this LSU fan; I really wish you were with LSU and wish you a truly successful career.

Has Benton made any comments on the matter?

First put your self in DeAngelo's shoes...your from LA you think you are going to be a Tiger for two years and boom it is taken away from you...b/c an old teammate of yours is "Worried" of competition b/c he has to be star from the onset....
I guess I see your point.

From a Coach's eye...Les Miles was right. Sure, the kid has been trying to sign with the program for two years, and sure, in the beginning we also made a promise to him. But, in return, he also made a promise to play football at LSU. Playing football also involves performing in the classroom...something Benton was not capable of doing. Benton broke his promise, Coach Miles went for the best choice for his team. Congrats to Coach Miles on his class.

Les Miles did what he had to do to get the #1 WR in the nation. In doing so, he likely had to tell an athlete with an academic problem and a potentially shorter career at LSU to take hike.
What's the problem?
Good call, Coach Miles!
Amazing....Not only do so many of you have your P@G glasses on so thick you cant see or refuse to see this...
Its wrong what CLM did b/c
A.He fricked DB over-Put yourself in his shoes...I think those P@G glasses would come off if he was you brother, son.
B.What if Saban had done the same to a recruit...Everyone here would crucify him....
C.Do any of you stop and think what this could do to future recruiting....Rival coaches could easily use this ("Hey son, Les will frick you in the end like he fricked DB last year"0...Or how HS Coaches will keep CLM away b/c of what he did to DB...
Be a Tiger fan but also think...

Not making excuses, but you nor I have any idea what this kid's mental capacity is. He really could have trouble in school.

I feel bad for Benton.

I don't. He had no business visiting Auburn after we had been waiting on him for three years. That was a major act of disloyalty.
DB sounds like a real air head and LSU doesn't need anymore of them in the program. Better off with RR. I wouldn't wait on anybody that doesn't have the grades right out of high school. You're real dim witted if you *can't pass courses in high school, *take two years to become eligible, *visit another school at the last minute after the first school tries to help you become eligible. I'm not a big Miles fan, but he made the right call here.........

Guys, when he went to AU, his coach was angry with him.
quote:
Even though Benton has twice signed with LSU coach Les Miles, Benton said he has still not made up his mind about going to LSU. He is still considering Auburn, where he visited last weekend. And several Auburn assistant coaches were in Bastrop on Tuesday to talk to Benton and Randle, who is expected in Auburn Friday for his final weekend visit.
That is from Jan 29. Benton is the one who was disloyal to the school that had already been holding him a spot for two years. I was angry when I read that and I know Les had to have been as well.
DB's own words make it clear it wasn't because he saw this coming. If he hadn't pulled that stunt he would be a Tiger today.

I wholeheartedly agree. For every action their is a consequence.

Last time I checked, this kid graduated from high school in 2007. How many chances do you get to be a freshman in college? Miles did the honorable thing, let Auburn have him.

Les Miles made a tough decision but a correct one.
Les is a very good, decent and idealistic man.
But I'm glad in this case he was like John Maginnis said about Bob Brodhead:
"He (sees) LSU athletics for what it is and not for what it pretends to be."
And that friends, is a big business - not some ivy-covered happy little world.
