No all I'm saying is everyone (including you) needs to just quit bitching about it. All these fricking people trying to find ways around it and saying its a bs letter need to just grow the frick up. Seriously, it isn't that hard. Chicken posted the email which was a request from our athletic department to simply avoid something that can cause infractions against our team. Why the hell can't people just say "okay" and move on...not that fricking hard.

And if I ever meet a recruit in person, I will officially become an LSU booster at that point, because I will be talking up Tiger Stadium and LSU's program in general.
If an individual on these message boards credibly identifies himself as a recruit or potential student-athlete, I will be cordial and polite and say good things about LSU, while making sure that I don't "assist in the recruiting process."
That's ok, isn't it?

The Constitution of the United States of America says otherwise!

wow, is all i can say, you must be real proud of that whiney post, to post it three times.
bet you never met a rule you did not like?
of course we are going to question something put out by the flagship of the university for public consumption that such an obvious grammatical error. we dont blindly follow any rule that is put before us, you can if you want, not i.
that being said, i cannot say that i have seen many, if any, instances of a recruit showing up on the message board to be recruited by us boosters. i am certain, however, that had one showed up prior to this statement, many on here would have unwittingly done exactly what we are being asked not to do. now that we are aware, i cannot imagine any true fan, doing something that could cause problems four our team.
now, go tattle on someone.

guys, its quite simple...
just have a conversation for 5 minutes about something else first (if the recruit actually wants to talk to you), then when you talk to him about LSU, you can say it was as a friend, because you were friends first...technically speaking of course

Another stupid rule, that they will never be able to enforce.
Selective enforcement.
This is something that everyone does, but they get to choose if they want to sanction someone for it.
real stupid.
So when I pass an athlete in the hallway at school wearing my LSU tie, and he says "nice tie" I have to ignore him?

No. Like someone else said in this thread, there is exceptions for "prior" relationships.
I have a hard time believing the NCAA really makes an effort to keep an eye on this stuff. I think LSU was just making a proactive effort to let us know about it and for us to be careful.

No, that's just being nice, and that's fine. Also, prior relationship exception. There's also an incidental contact exception. Some of you are making this way more than it is. All LSU is doing is CYA because there is potential for NCAA rules to be violated in this forum. I doubt the NCAA is sitting around watching but a word of warning from LSU was wise.

When the recruits come to games for official (or unofficial) visits, are the LSU fans permitted to yell out to them "COMMIT TO LSU!" or "COME WEAR THE P & G!"?
Posted on 8/15/08 at 7:42 am to TigerGrl73
This more a warning towards Clean because he is always talking to "recruits"

I was just trying for my Rantard Merit Badge.
I get the idea that rules are rules....even when they are silly ones. I CERTAINLY respect the fact that the admins on these sites are doing their parts in disseminating the info.

Some folk are acting like this is some new rule(s).....it's not.

By posting said above notice, Mr. Chicken and the tigerdroppings.com web site are now "in compliance" with NCAA regulations....that is all!!!!

Well, to be fair:
1) There are "new fans" every year. People who are only now learning of these things and/or getting old enough to have these contacts, etc.
2) New Technology. Just a very few years ago, it would have been much more difficult to contact these guys. Now, 'text messaging', 'Myspace', 'E-mail', etc has made the world a much more connected place than ever before.

I'm not gonna read all 6 pages of this, but think about what the NCAA and schools like LSU are really saying by posting this "warning" on their message boards. Foremost -- aside from a "booster" lavishing gifts or otherwise, which is obviously the easisest way for everyone to get in trouble with the NCAA, the only other ways for a school to get into hot water with its "boosters" is through a LACK OF INSTITUTIONAL CONTROL. That is the deadly phrase that scares all schools. But when it comes to message boards, there's no way to inhibit the free flow of communication. You can't sanction any individual -- recruit or otherwise -- from exercising their rights of free speech guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. But the NCAA can sanction an athletic program. So how does a school exercise its duties to do what it can to ensure "institutional control" over recruiting activities? It posts a "warning" like the one that is on the first page of this thread. And that's the end of it. LSU has fulfilled its duty. What more can it do? But if a recruit wants to engage in a dialogue with me, you, or even Unknown, no one can prevent that -- not even the NCAA. LSU is on record of doing what it can in exercising all "institutional control" at its disposal -- and so it's off the hook. Bottom line -- no one should get their panties in a wad over this. LSU has crossed its i's and dotted its t's.

Be careful, it also covers the parents of recruits!
