Sounds good in theory, but you can't look too far ahead in college basketball. McMahon has done a really good job of retaining key players for next season. But would he be able to do it again if next season is a third straight year of weak results? Unlikely.
I don't agree that its unlikely. It appears that CMM is recruiting kids with a 3-4 year plan for them and they are aware of this plan before coming to school. This is evidenced by Tyrell Ward and Jalen Reid both sticking around for their 3rd year despite both being highly recruited out of HS and never being more than role players to this point. He also kept Mike Williams and Corey Chest despite one being a bench guy, the other being a redshirt, and neither looking to have a guarantee to start next season. Roster retention and development seem to be the key to success for CMM. Will it work? IDK. But if it fails, I think it'll be due to the guys he has not developing or being as good as he thought rather than them bailing in the portal.

That sounds great in practice, on 4/30/24. But if you are a guy going into you 3rd or 4th season on a team that hasn't had much success throughout the entire time you've been on it you may start to strongly consider your options. Especially if you are seeing guys transfer and have immediate success.
A 3-4 year plan is more stable in an era of open transferring. But at some point you have to show the players success will come from that approach. Hopefully that is this season. If so, it will pay dividends for McMahon. But if this is another very average, or worse, below average season, it's human nature for players/fans to start questioning if the coach will ever be able to have success here?

Its sounds great in practice based on the fact that the players he recruited are still on the team despite not playing or being role players.
Everything else you posted is your own opinion on how you would view the situation if you were a player. Actual results based on actual roster retention proves that the players are loyal to CMM. Is it possible that if we have a losing season that players will bolt? Sure. But the actions of the players he has recruited thus far make it more probable that they don't leave than they do.
Which leads back to my premise: If CMM fails at LSU it'll most likely be because the players he recruited and developed weren't as good as he hoped rather than people transferring out.

Hell, our fans started this before his first year was over.

So is our roster done or we gonna add multiple players? Please someone clarify this for me? If we arent done what positions do we need and who are realistic targets?

quote:Dji Bailey would be our 12th, if he and the others sign. We could have a walk on with one of the transfers (Cam Carter?) that would leave us with one more slot. Last year Dean was such a guy, but no one knew it at the time and it has only recently come to light.

So we could add a center or use a spot like what Dean did last year if not our bigs situation is kind if thin no real center depth with Fountain, Chest, Reed, Collins, and Rob Miller.

LSU may not have a true "block" center. But they do have size and length with all of the players mentioned. And quite frankly, LSU's offense has sucked the last two years with a "center". So I don't think there should be an absolute emphasis to sign one just to sign one if he isn't any good. Outside of a few games here and there, part of the issue last year was the emphasis on trying to run the offense (at times) through Baker...who wasn't efficient. Again, outside of a couple of games where Baker was hot shooting the ball, LSU was a better team overall with Dean on the floor. Dean really wasn't a "center". He was more of a PF. But LSU wasn't beholden to trying to run the offense through him. That allowed him to rim-run, attack the offensive glass, and play decent defense.
It appears clear that McMahon is trying to find a wing defender. The only thing that has been worse than LSU's offense over the past two years has been their defense. Ward's not a particularly great defender, and counting on true freshmen to be good defenders right out of HS is often a bad move. Once done, I think McMahon will likely try to find a center/PF. But I doubt it will be a guy who will be looked upon to be a high usage player.

Looks like a good driver who can finish in traffic. Not much of a shooter

Also a great defender. He can guard the 1, 2, or 3 spot and is a high motor guy that should improve our rebounding. He does look solid off the dribble and can be aggressive if needed but we already have guys for scoring so I'm not worried about his 3-pt percentage. I don't think we'll be asking him to be a knockdown shooter for us. We needed to improve depth and experience on our bench and I feel like this is a good step in that direction. I like the pick up.

Like the pickup a lot, solid defender and seems to play with a lot of effort.

He replaces Tre Hannibal very nicely.

In terms of their impact to the team, I would say Murray will for sure show up more on the stat sheet at least. Similar to wells from last year. But also, who cares.

What Bailey brings seems to be in between Wright and Hannibal, but I leaned more towards replacing what we were missing with Hannibal, because I think LSU won't rely on Bailey to score as much as they relied on Wright to score, but when he does it'll be mainly by driving and taking short shots, like Hannibal. Also, Bailey's assist to turnover ratios is 2-1, like Hannibal's, while Wright's was close to 1-1. Bailey's defense is closer to Wright's, yet I think Hannibal was a pretty good defender as well, but I think Bailey's is better than both of them.
