The difference between this coming season and last season is there is more college playing experience. LSU relied on 4 freshmen and a jr that had hardly played the last 2 years so there is a difference in that respect. Remains to be seen if the mid major players they signed can adapt to the SEC. But we won't be one of the least experienced teams next season and we will have 2 true talented post players this year also and hopefully an upgrade at PG and more size at all positions. Combine that with hopefully a weaker SEC and LSU should have an opportunity to improve their position in the conference.

We really don’t know for sure that the SEC will be down a bit next season, despite major losses, because these top-tier teams have re-stocked in the transfer portal.
Barring a new change in rules, we should see an overall drop in talent as the covid year players are mostly out of eligibility. Probably the main reason we are seeing a jump in NIL. Hopefully that settles down next year.

LSU minutes leaders

Cam Carter - Senior (appeared in 74 college games before coming to LSU)
Dji Bailey - 5th year Senior (appeared in 78 college games before coming to LSU)
Jordan Sears - 5th year Senior (appeared in 121 college games before coming to LSU)
Damion Collins - 4th year (appeared in 58 college games before this season)

Also on the roster was

Derrick Fountain - 5th year (appeared in 108 college games before this season)

Mike Williams - 2nd year (appeared in all 33 games last season, starting 22)

Even with Reed's injury, McMahon had 5 players on his roster who had appeared in 58+ games prior to last year. He CHOSE to not play experienced guys in Fountain and Williams. If experience was paramount, McMahon chose to leave two experienced players mostly on the bench

As for Chest, McMahon CHOSE to not give him any experience by redshirting him the year before.

But poor ole Matt. He just got stuck having to play freshmen.

It was HIS roster. If he wanted more experience he could have gotten in the offseason vs. signing 3 HS players. He could have given Chest minutes the year before. He could have played Williams and Fountain more.

Your back must really hurt from having to bend over so much to disparage the team. Do you get paid for this?

Chest redshirting was a mutual decision. He was and still is very very raw as a basketball player but you see the motor and intangibles that made him highly touted. I actually think our front court is very good at the moment. Miller, Reed, Sutton and Nwoko is going to be fine in the SEC. Desperately need to give Dedan a running mate who can create a bit

Regardless of the why LSU depended on 5 players with very little experience. Fact,. That made a huge difference especially in this years SEC. Won't be the case this year. Collins hardly played in those 58 games. Fountain played and did nothing and was hurt for a while. The only players with solid playing experience were Cam, Sears, and Bailey and to a certain extent Williams. That's it.You can spin it any way you want. And most of the teams they played didn't even have a freshman in the rotation much less 4. And Collins was a jr in name only.

I’m not disparaging the team. I’m disparaging the perpetual excuse makers…and giving actual evidence to support the response instead of searching for every possible basis to ignore the obvious

There are no excuse makers for this coaching staff on this site. They do not exist. There are people who are looking for reasons to be hopeful and some who try to put the struggles in context. You and your ilk wanted McMahon fired (like most of us) and since he didn’t y’all have decided to throw temper tantrums about it in every thread about basketball like it will change the decision that has already been made. It is clear that if results aren’t much better he is gone so it should be a win/win. Y’all just want to make sure everybody else is as miserable as you are.

Is this clear? The same thing was said last year. Perhaps even more NIL money will be needed next offseason if the results are lackluster yet again
