Will be interested where he ends up if the idea is he's not good enough for our complete dogshit program.

We're bad relative to the SEC, but LSU is not a dogshit program. I know we expect much better, but we're a top 100 program with a lot of visibility.

Chest is a decent player, with great potential, so I'm disappointed to see him enter the portal, but we should be able to upgrade him. He is terrible at the FT line, and he would disappear in most games. When he went off with 18 rebounds against Alabama, I thought we had a huge weapon, but then his rebounding dropped way off. I don't know if teams figured out how to defend him, or he wasn't trying as hard, but he never adjusted, and he doesn't offer enough other things well to compete in the SEC. He's a very good athlete that has flashed great potential, so he will do well at a mid-major, and playing time will be good for him. With the extra playing time, he may develop into a consistent producer, so I would like to keep him as a backup, but to compete in the SEC next season, I think McMahon needs some players that are already ready to produce. If Chest does return, he'll either need to develop his game and produce consistently to get minutes, or we'll have another bad season.

Will be adding Treysen Eaglestaff to the portal contacts. Would be a very good get but the whole country is after him.

Eaglestaff is very good. If we somehow got him then I’d actually believe we’re spending the money. With that being said ain’t no way he ends up at LSU.

You are talking about the LSU brand overall. The basketball program under McMahon is in fact dogshit.

I’d put the odds LSU lands him at roughly one in three billion

This.

LSU is still a national brand, and there is NO reason the right HC couldn't come in and do exactly what Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, etc have done. Hell, even Ole Miss now (who is historically the SEC's worst program) Auburn, Alabama and Tennessee were on no better footing than LSU...until they "hit" on the right coach. Same for Florida until they found Donvan. And again before they hit on Golden.

Every school listed above has "missed" on a HC hire. Multiple times. It happens. But you have to be able to recognize when you don't have the guy. Especially now when turnarounds can be accomplished quicker than ever before.

In his 3 years here McMahon is the ONLY SEC coach to not lead his team to the NCAA Tournament (including Texas and OU). He has less SEC wins in 3 full seasons than almost every other program (excluding Texas and OU) has in 2 season. For Godsakes, Missouri went an entire season without winning a single SEC game and STILL has 7 more conference wins than McMahon has in 3 seasons. What more does the administration have to see?

At a quick glance Jalen Jackson averaged 2.2 TO’s per game this season, which is the same as Jordan Sears. He also is only a 26% 3 pt shooter. He’d fit in great!

I see all of that renewed NIL money has them going after some really high profile guys at the P4 level. Geez Rinse and Repeat !!

Bet you would have said the same thing if McMahon had signed Dalton Knecht and Chaz Lanier out of the portal the last two seasons. Its always an unknown when you bring a player from a lower level into a major conference. Sears and Dji were brought in to be complementary pieces around a team which would feature Reed, Ward and Williams. Two of them essentially missed the season and the third was off and on .

Mcmahon yes probably can’t. But you can build a team from some studs from non p4. I would love to have sears from Bama. Clayton from Florida. Knecht. Etc. I would say your biggest impact transfers are non p4. The p4 guys you tend to get are guys who didn’t play at previous school. With exceptions.

Perhaps. But this year's AD approved excuse for the dismal performance is LSU was destitute in NIL funds which is why they couldn't sign more "expensive" players. That being the case, you can't get upset when fans see transfer targets from the SWAC and other low-level conferences when fans have been told the NIL money has been increased to buy the expensive players they previously couldn't afford.

I 100% agree that mid-major players can have big impacts on a major-conf. team. But McMahon doesn't get the benefit of the doubt. He's coached nearly 100 games at LSU. Despite the revolving door of excuses why, the results have been abysmal. Sub .500 overall. .260 conference wining %. Only HC in the SEC not to take a team to the NCAA Tournament in the 3 years he's been in the league.

If (purportedly) the only thing holding him back was the financial inability to sign major conf/high-dollar transfers, then signing a guy from the Summitt League doesn't do much to convince anyone the problem is being fixed. Sorry.

I’d love for us to take a look at his teammate Taylor Bol Bowen though.
