It is amazing how this has changed from talking about recruiting to comparing Houston to New Orleans.

LOL....

So does anyone think Texas will ever play LSU in regular season? That would be a good match up and great for strength of schedule.

I've been here 12 years...it wasn't a shithole then and it isn't now. Is there a bigger shithole than the French Quarter? And for the record, I love the Quarter...but it's a shithole.

Look...No one, and I mean NO ONE, in their right mind will claim that New Orleans is the world's best place to live. It has absolutely NOTHING on any other city in the US except its unique culture. I'm not here representing New Orleans (like I said, I've only lived in the area for a year)...I'm here discussing the topic from earlier in this thread that Texans (or UT fans) are condescending, pompous assholes and look down upon LSU folks and folks from Louisiana in general, and that is an absolute FACT as witnessed by this humble observer. All I'm doing is debunking the bullshite that Texans spew about how Texas is the ultimate living destination, and all who try to contest are ignorant, uneducated rednecks. There is great stuff in Texas (you seemed to ignore the part of my post where I mentioned that I enjoyed my time there), but it's nowhere NEAR great enough in ANY way to justify the hype from cocky, condescending Texans.

quote:

That's just ignorant. You telling me a Salt Lake City or a Shreveport have the same options that a Houston, Dallas, or Austin has?

Houston and Dallas are two of the largest cities in the country, and you're comparing them to SHREVEPORT . Nice try, bud. Come back if you want to compare Houston & Dallas to comparably sized cities, like Chicago, San Francisco, LA, New York, Atlanta, Phoenix, etc....not Shreveport and SALT LAKE
. Really, you lost all credibility there.

quote:

Does every major city have 3 major sports teams?

Lots do. LA, NY, Pittsburgh, Philly, Chicago, Miami, etc. etc. Like I said, we're not talking Shreveport here (I would hardly call Shreveport a "large city"...it's an AFB & a casino). Hell, even NO has 2, and it's got less than 10% of the people that Houston has!!

quote:

Great golf courses everywhere? I don't think so.

Really? Are you seriously implying that there aren't great golf courses near every major city? There isn't a major city that doesn't have great golf courses all over the place. shite, SOUTH CAROLINA has better golf. ALABAMA & MISSISSIPPI have the Jones Golf Trail. And TPC is in the Woodlands, not Houston.

quote:

Yeah, I guess I should just wish everyone could hang an engine block from their trees and not keep up their yard.

That's right....cause there's NO middle ground between a gated cookie-cutter community and a trailer park. .

quote:

That's just clueless. I'm sure the houses and neighborhoods are so much better in Covington. And explain how the housing situation in New Orleans is so much better.

Again...never said it was. And again...I'm not representing NO, and I never tried to. I'm debunking all the BS about how great Houston is. I'm not the one on here with a sales pitch for the city I live in. Like I said, Houston's great in many ways, but I'm just as free to point out the bad things as you are to point out the good.

Some of the houses/neighborhoods in the Covington are comparable, there just aren't as many of them, and the HOAs are near as ridiculously strict. Covington wasn't build 15,000 houses at a time (a la Pearland), so each neighborhood has its own character..it's not just a copy of the next neighborhood with a different name. Also, there are other affordable options in the area in case you want some acreage, some waterfront property, etc.

quote:

I live 17 miles from downtown, try again Beavis.

I like how I used "minutes" and you used "miles" to try to detract from the point. Anyone who has ever lived in Houston knows 17 miles from Downtown = 45 minutes from Downtown. Unless, of course, it's Sunday evening, or it's 3a.m. on Tuesday. My fiancee lived in Champions when we were there, and it took me 45 minutes to get to work downtown from her house...at 6:00 am.

quote:

Does New Orleans have good schools in the suburbs? Public ones?

Yes. At least on the Northshore. They're some of the best schools in the state. And before you submit the obligatory "that doesn't say much in Louisiana" (a classic line from Texans when trying to be condescending towards "Lousyana"), there are several PUBLIC schools on the Northshore that are nationally recognized.

Look...AGAIN...Houston's great in many ways, all of which you've pointed out. It is NOT GREAT-ER than any other American city. For every person you can find who has moved to Houston and LOVES it, I'll find you 2 that have moved there and REFUSE to go back. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but there is another side to the "Texas is the greatest place on the planet" coin, and as long as most every Texan I meet assumes I'm an uneducated coonass who can't even begin to fathom how much above me they are on an intellectual, social, and economic level, I'll continue to counter the "Texas is great" argument with my "Texas is OK, if you like that sort of thing" argument.

I agree with you there on the Northshore, I went to school at Slidell High (our principal at the time was anal retentive about it), and that St. Tammany Parish takes great pride in its focus on academics.

Most of those school's are very hard on their athletes to make good grades. I have yet to see an athlete coming out of St. Tammany parish, with questionable core grades and act.

I actually like Houston and every person that I meet from there that goes to LSU or goes anywhere but UT.

My posts aren't really about the state of Texas at all, just the university and the crappy kids that flock there.

All these people from horn nation do is complain...they still hold a grudge against Perriloux for decommiting and actively and publicly hope for his failure. All I can say is that LSU has established a pretty god foothold in recruiting East Texas and the Greater Houston area and if the Tigers land Mcfarland and continue the great tradition at defensive line it will become a pipeline for defensive line prospects. You got it!! That was the point I was trying to make in the first place.

But this got into a pissing match between Texas cities and Louisiana towns.

Look at what the assholes @ shaggybevo.com are saying now:

Houston's fun if you like concrete, mexican restaurants, and oil companies.

Dallas is OK if you like snooty girls who marry rich and don't consider you worth talking to if you don't drive the newest BMW/Benz available.

Austin if fun if you like hippies and, as has been discussed previously, unwarranted Texas pride.

San Antonio is cool if you like....well....Mexico.

New Orlean's is fun if you like water.(Mojames)

why couldn't Baton Rouge and not New Orleans have been douched when Katrina hit?(TJ Hooshamazoo)

LSU's Associate AD Verge Ausberry is on Songy's Show record as saying, that LSU has contacted UT's Deloss Dodds about such, and was rejected with scheduling excuses, but felt it a stonewall, as with USC's Mike Garrett. But has had positive feedback from ATM, whom is now desperate.

When I lived in Austin, the sportsradio guys there(Craig Way, Keith Moreland, Jones,etc..) always poo-poo'ed any notion of home-and-homes with LSU, rationalizing just as UT's Dodds, that they already have OU institutionalized into the Dallas area kids recruiting-radar..

And that allowing old Big-8 foe Arkansas too much exposure into Texas nowadays with any future games besides the recently completed/long-scheduled series..

And LSU into any further Tejas expansion of it's strong H-Town/Coast ties, with Dallas/etc..exposure, is a lose-lose situation..

Let alone the loss possibilties towards BCS title hopes for UT and/or the Big-12 by scheduling a high-risk OOC game vs the SEC..

Reportedly, Jerry Jones wants some Ark and/or LSU games vs Big-12 Texas schools to fill some Saturday rents in his new stadium.
