I'd be willing to bet that no one on the LSU football team could get a 6 on the Wonderlic like UT black jesus did.

I grew up in Shreveport 15 miles from the Texas line and had family in Dallas for years. That pretty much sums up every native Texan I have ever met. They look down their noses at people from Louisiana.

are you really this dumb?

how many joe mcknight hate threads did you see during his recruitment? compare that number to how many joe mcknight threads you saw after he signed with usc and it came out that he had been privately committed there for months. what are you left with?

Are saying that most LSU fans did not feel "entitled" to McKnight? I think most did. I think the fact that there were strange circumstances surrounding his recruitment exacerbated this already existing sentiment.

Oh yeah, and frick you latiger...you've insulted me twice now but you haven't exactly made a point yourself.

Yes.

Well we're not paying you to think. In fact....we're not paying you at ALL! Count it!

Houston's fun if you like concrete, mexican restaurants, and oil companies.

Yep, that's all there is here...if it wasn't for the great job market, numerous entertainment options, best medical care in the country, extremely low cost of living, great schools, etc, it would be unbearable.

yes i am, and given the fact that you agreed that most lsu fans knew he really like usc from the beginning, it doesnt make any sense at all for you to think otherwise.

strange circumstances like him leading lsu on for months for no reason at all? didnt i say that already?

insulted you where?

but you haven't exactly made a point yourself.

my point has been very clearly made.

1. that vast majority of texas fans, moreso than any other fanbase in the country, are pompous assholes that think they are better than everyone else, with very little to back that up.

2. most lsu fans dislike for joe mcknight is much deeper than just him choosing to go somewhere other than lsu.

You forgot to mention the complete and utter lack of culture.

The great job market has less to do with Houston itself and more to do with the current price of oil (Aberdeen, Perth, & Stavengrad happen to have great job markets right now as well...wonder why ??), so don't be taking too much for granted there, hot shot. Downtown Houston was an absolute shithole 10 years ago when oil was $10 a barrel, and if oil crashes again (like it always historically has eventually), it'll be a shithole again.

Every large city has numerous entertainment options. There is NOTHING to do in Houston that can't be done in any other large American city.

Best medical care?? Are you implying that I should choose to live in Houston just in case I or someone in my family get cancer at some point 40 years from now!?!?!? That's kinda stupid.

Low cost of living = houses being built by illegal laborers who are being paid $3/hr by home builders who are living in River Oaks who own $15,000,000 houses and frown upon anyone who isn't driving the newest luxury vehicle or isn't invited to the latest downtown suare'. Plus, it's easy to keep housing costs low when there's and endless amount of land surrounding the city that you can just 'suburbanize' by filling it with cookie-cutter subdivisions. That's cool if you like getting a bitchy letter from your HOA everytime your grass doesn't meet the maximum length standards, or you accidentally pull up in the wrong driveway in your neighborhood because every house looks the same, or if you like going to dinner parties down the road only to walk into your neighbor's house to find that it's IDENTICAL to your house (except they chose the darker granite and the smaller tile design). If you want to spend $170,000 to live in what is essentially an apartment complex, be my guest.

And Houston's schools are shite. The suburbs are where all the great schools are, and you have to live 45 minutes outside of downtown Houston (or in one of the River-Oaks-esque neighborhoods inside the loop) in order to have your kids go there. Most every city has good schools in the suburbs.

Yep...Houston is a giant parking lot filled with strip mall after strip mall after strip mall as far as the eye can see (through the smog, that is). If that tickles your fancy, then enjoy.

Dude, I live in Houston and that is spot on. Having said that, I'd never live in New Orleans again. I couldn't make a third of what I make in Houston. I'll just continue to visit several times a year when I'm homesick. Houston ain't home. It's just where I hang my hat.

You summed it up right there, bro. I lived in Houston just 15 months ago, made some good money, and got transferred back to NO (with the same company, making the same money). Enjoyed my time there, but I didn't realize how much culture and character (in the city I live in and in its people) meant to me until I moved back to Louisiana.

For the record, while I grew up in Louisiana, the closest I had ever lived to NO before 14 months ago was BR, so this is my first time living here in the GNO area. It's amazing how much this city means to people, even with all its faults. If a meteor hit Houston, they'd just rebuild it right outside of the crater. That's why Houston is so new and modern...it was called 'Galveston' until about 100 years ago, when a hurricane wiped it out.

If you're a young professional right out of college and you move to Houston, you'll find that 8 of 10 people you meet that are your age and in your situation are NOT from Houston...they're just there to make a buck. If you look for the same people 5-7 years later, you won't find them. They'll either have gotten their experience and gone elsewhere, or moved to a cookie-cutter subdivision to begin their endless treck to keep up with the Johnsons.

hey brah, chill out. there are plenty of pros and cons to houston/texas AND louisiana. and believe it or not, theres a huge lsu following here in houston.

quote:

Downtown Houston was an absolute shithole
dont throw stones, friend
quote:

built by illegal laborers who are being paid $3/hr by home builders who are living in River Oaks
no capitalism in louisiana?
quote:

frown upon anyone who isn't driving the newest luxury vehicle
no elitists either? doubtful-- im not saying it isnt true, or that its right, but to assume everyone here acts that way and noone wherever you live does in rediculous
quote:

Houston's schools are shite. The suburbs are where all the great schools are
then there are great schools in louisiana, too, right? ahh wait, all you guys go to private schools, dont ya?
quote:

Houston is a giant parking lot
there is a huge misconception that houston is the only place in the world with concrete

What culture exactly are you looking for? It's a young city compared to a NY, Chicago, SF. Culture takes time.

I've been here 12 years...it wasn't a shithole then and it isn't now. Is there a bigger shithole than the French Quarter? And for the record, I love the Quarter...but it's a shithole.

quote:

Every large city has numerous entertainment options.

That's just ignorant. You telling me a Salt Lake City or a Shreveport have the same options that a Houston, Dallas, or Austin has? Does every major city have 3 major sports teams? The second biggest concentrated theater district outside of NY? Great golf courses everywhere? I don't think so.

quote:

Best medical care?? Are you implying that I should choose to live in Houston

No, I'm not saying that, but it's a nice benefit to have. Means more the older you get and the older your relatives get.

quote:

home builders who are living in River Oaks who own $15,000,000 houses and frown upon anyone who isn't driving the newest luxury vehicle or isn't invited to the latest downtown suare'.

Oh yeah, I get a lot of this. I had three River Oaks billionaires shoot the bird at me just today.

quote:

That's cool if you like getting a bitchy letter from your HOA everytime your grass doesn't meet the maximum length standards,

Yeah, I guess I should just wish everyone could hang an engine block from their trees and not keep up their yard.

quote:

If you want to spend $170,000 to live in what is essentially an apartment complex, be my guest.

That's just clueless. I'm sure the houses and neighborhoods are so much better in Covington. And explain how the housing situation in New Orleans is so much better.

I live 17 miles from downtown, try again Beavis. You don't have to live in the middle of downtown Houston to be considered in the metro area. Does New Orleans have good schools in the suburbs? Public ones?
