Mason Taylor was a 3 star on 247. I did not know this.

As is Carpenter.

I’m not saying there is an intentional racial bias with recruiting services but there does seem to be a feeling that “white men cant jump” when it comes to rating all positions except QB.

Louisiana recruits are always underrated every year. The 3 stars are most likely 4 stars. That stats prove this.

Nabers was like 190th overall, Bech was a 3 star, and Williams was a 2 star just to name a few.

I feel like O was trusting too much of their rankings, instead of sending scouts out there to watch. Kelly is different. He wants to build around Louisiana players.

Well he had offers from a lot of great schools.

Alabama, LSU, Florida, Miami, Texas A&M.

Usually the offer list shows a lot granted he didn't have an offer from FSU or Georgia, which geographically those schools would typically recruit his area, especially when he was at a major school like St. Thomas Aquinas which puts out a ton of prospects.

1/4

If 3 of your grandparents are black and one is white, are you white?

Remember when Bama stole Danny Lewis from us, Saban sounds like he wanted Mason Taylor as well

I feel like that was one of the main points of conversation Woodward had with Kelly before taking the job. He wanted him to reign in North LA wrangling it from Bama, and he wanted to re-establish the Louisiana pipelines that O burned for 5 stars out in California.

You never chase a 5 star out of state in place of going after a 4-star in-state. Its just bad taste and isnt worth the investment it takes to compete with other major programs.

California 5-stars are the perfect trap-recruit. Youre automatically behind a few other schools (like Bama-Georgia-Texas) and you're nowhere near in terms of location.

You can't sell Baton Rouge great, but you can sell the great college experience and a great shot at the NFL, but so can a lot of schools.

Despite the NIL warnings the same factors are still at play with recruits as any era, and location/distance to their family is still a big deal.

Its one of the things that worries me about Nyckoles Harbor. Unless he's blown away by the track/football combo opportunity then LSU is at a disadvantage in terms of location, even if you claim his parents can easily travel.

But in reality you’re just a human and none of this should matter.

It’s 2022. The year Brian Kelly and Nick Saban battled for Mason Taylor’s commitment. Taylor, whose father Jason Taylor is a 6-time Pro Bowler and his uncle Zach Thomas is a seven-time Pro Bowler with the Miami Dolphins. With that pedigree and two of the top coaches in college football going after him, and just received the game ball for his play in one of the greatest wins in tiger stadium history, was a unanimous 3 star.

Like I said, it’s not intentional. But it’s there.

Jason Taylor, with a black father and white mother is cafe au lait.

Mason’s mother is whipped cream white… and from what I saw Saturday… just as sweet…

Might be the dumbest statement I read in a long time. FYI - do some research on Mason Taylor's dad and overall HS recruiting rankings by position. The Top 3 TE's in 2021 are white. TE's rarely receive a 5-star ranking as Arik Gilbert and Michael Mayer (both class of 2020) were exceptions. Doesn't matter what color or race a person is. If a high school athlete / college prospect has all the intangibles, speed, size, physicality, and an impressive film, then they will get lots of attention and praise from the various scouting services. Kid could be purple and from Antartica. If he is one of the top 32 players in the country, regardless of position or color, he will be rated as a 5-star.

“but you can sell the great college experience and a great shot at the NFL, but so can a lot of schools.”

We all know LSU produces the most talent in the league along with Alabama, the only schools that can currently offer that on a similar level are Alabama, perhaps a Georgia, and Ohio State. That’s not a lot, just a very select chosen few. Not trying to nitpick, but we have give the Tigers their true due. They are NFLSU and these recruits know that. Alabama also had a decent bust rate for as much talent as they produce until recently, while LSU produced more sleepers and overall productive players, at least IMO. If anyone has a stat to say otherwise, I’ll stand corrected.
