First of all the athlete has to meet these criteria to receive an academic scholarship and not count against the 85/25.

quote:

Top 10% of the high school graduating class
Achieve a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.50
Score 1200 or higher on the SAT or ACT sum score of at least 105

That, in and of itself pretty much prevents blatant cheating of the system.

The rest has to do with the application process.

quote:

an institution is not permitted to certify that a student-athlete’s institutional financial aid is unrelated in any degree to athletics ability if the student-athlete’s athletics participation or achievements are criteria specifically requested as part of the application process for such aid. An institution may certify that the student-athlete’s aid is unrelated in any degree to athletics ability (even if the student-athlete lists athletics participation or achievements as part of his or her extracurricular activities), provided such factors were not specifically requested as part of the application process and were not taken into consideration in awarding the institutional aid to the student-athlete.

It is going to be very interesting to see how all this shakes out. There are going to be a few very good players wanting in who will get passed on.

All the more reason top players who are interested in LSU needs to get on board early like O says. We aren't waiting around for guys until signing day like we used to.

You want us? Better ink that LOI in December.

I'm still not sold on the kid from Haynesville La. He looks more like a La Tech prospect than an LSU kid.

He's 6'7" 285lbs if he was at West Monroe or Evangel he would play left tackle and be a High School All American and pushing 5 stars.

He plays tackle and DE at Hanyesville and is all over the field. He is a project but he has all the tools to be a great player.

Sure it can be. He can be admitted academically to any university he wants to.

he can, maybe, if he qualifies for a academic scholarship, he just can't get on the field for even one play if he does. If he plays he would count as a football scholarship.

But what good does it do for a recruit to commit early to save his spot when he might be processed later if a higher rated recruit wants in? The elite prospects know that they can wait as long as they want and room will be made for them by anyone they choose. A lower ranked 4 or 3 star recruit can commit early but still not be guaranteed a spot!
