Does anyone know if high school release/graduation in Russia the same as the US?

I would think the language challenge and matriculation/registration is an impediment, but HOPE Springs eternal….

"High school graduation in Russia traditionally culminates in late June, following the completion of state exams. The milestone is preceded by the "Last Bell" ceremony in May, and officially wraps up with formal school-wide balls and city celebrations."
I can't be for certain but this is when high school graduation in Russia takes place so I'm not sure if this could be the issue. Maybe we will never know.

I just googled requirements for international athletic signees out of high school to attend LSU. This is what AI told me:
"Yes. International athletes can be accepted, sign a National Letter of Intent, and receive an athletic scholarship before officially graduating from high school. However, because LSU is an NCAA Division I institution, strict academic and eligibility rules apply.
1. NCAA Requirements
Regardless of when you sign or receive scholarship funds, the NCAA Eligibility Center requires that you:
Graduate High School: You must provide official proof of graduation (upper secondary or pre-university schooling).
Core Courses: You must complete 16 NCAA-approved core courses. (Note: Students with solely international academic credentials are exempt from the specific "10/7" course progression rule required for U.S. students, but the full 16 courses must be completed)
Academic Certification:
You must earn the minimum required core-course GPA. The NCAA Eligibility Center will convert your international grades to the U.S. 4.00 scale.
Amateurism: You must receive final NCAA Amateurism Certification.
2. Early Enrollment Options
If an international athlete finishes their secondary education early (e.g., in the middle of the academic year), they can enroll at LSU as an early enrollee for the spring semester. To be eligible to enroll and practice/compete early, they must have their academic credentials evaluated and be certified by the NCAA Eligibility Center prior to arrival.
3. LSU University Admissions
Accepting a scholarship from an athletic coach does not guarantee admission to the university itself. International prospective student-athletes must still meet LSU Undergraduate Admissions standards, which include:
Providing all final official secondary school transcripts.
Meeting English proficiency requirements (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo).

They are working to get her visa approved
Mulkey isn’t letting this get announced until they know for sure her visa is good to go. There are multiple hoops they are trying to get through. SC had their 6’6 big from France enroll in December. There are a number of ncaa teams still waiting approval of visas and clearance from the ncaa on their commitments and it remains unknown how quick that decision will be.
The Russian girl is very talented but the 17 year old foreign player isn’t making or breaking the season next year imo. She could be great depth piece and developmental player for the future with Carolina coming in a year. The development of Knox, Koval, and Morro (who is 21 years old) will be the most important priority given their experience
Plenty of teams every year get to an elite 8 with minimal post presence or production. But yes to get to a final four you’ll need 1-5 to produce or hope your star players get hot
This is a year where Mikaylah and Fulwiley need to consistently be assertive and take over games. Felt like it was a missing with Flaujae her senior year for whatever the reason was but LSU should have another really nice season again.

She’d be at least a depth piece and maybe a little more depending on how quick she’d adjust to the sec .
As of now , other than Koval this isn’t a very big team.

Thanks for the update, Tigerbait357. Totally agree that they will have a special season regardless.
But I think they need a 4th big to match up with South Carolina who returns Kitts and Watkins to go along with Joyce Edwards, Tournebize, and Olivia Edwards down low. Plus they will have two five stars plus Adhel Tac on their bench. They almost have too many players down low, but they're all 5-star talents.
Four is a good number for bigs against the elite teams like SC. It helps you match up in case of foul trouble or injury. Case in point, LSU had SC on the ropes in 2024 at home until Angel Reese got into foul trouble. LSU had no depth behind her.
Minaeva at 6-5 would also add more depth for rebounding and rim protection against tall teams like SC. Kate Koval can rebound and block shots, and so can Grace Knox. Morro can rebound, but not sure about her defensive presence and blocking shots though I believe she'll be a great weapon on offense. Minaeva can block shots. Having watched the 3 x 3 over the last few weeks, I believe a more confident Koval will be improved, but she still has a ways to go offensively because she still tends to miss putbacks.
Since LSU should be good inside- better than last year- I think a big key in the big matchups against other elite teams will be LSU's ability to hit the 3-point shot. With MK, Lay, Z, Jada Williams, Lola Lampley, and even Laila Reynolds, they're loaded with athletic slashers who can hit the midrange and get to the hoop and finish.
But MK (43 percent) is the only consistent 3-pt. shooter with Lay (34 percent) behind her. I think given the chance now Zakiyah can consistently hit threes, but Jada Williams, a top point guard, is only a 30 percent shooter from 3 while Laila Reynolds, a defensive stopper, hit just 12 percent last year though she was a 5-star McDonald's All-American. That's where losing Flau'jae (42 percent), Jada Richard (41 percent) and Bella Hines (38 percent) hurts the most, in my opinion.
The big plus is that Morro is a great weapon from 3 (38 percent). Although Kim likes to pound it inside, and I think that's a proven winning philosophy especially with more talent down low, when teams with other good bigs pack it tight inside, you have to be able to hit the 3 to loosen them up and bring them out. That's what LSU did against Iowa in the title game in 2023.
I believe we have reason to expect another great season, but with Minaeva LSU can eliminate a big weakness- depth down low. Heck, even though Z was undersized, they played four in the post last year.

Knox and Koval will play expanded ninutes and Zakiyah can fill in if needed. I look for Grace to make a big jump this season. Hopefully Megan begins to develop and can play a few quality minutes in other than mop up times.

Isn't it common practice by Mulkey to always announce when her roster is complete? Nothing has been said yet.

Listening to Scarborough last night and he said he’s been told recently that the Russian is still coming, but lots of red tape to go through before it’s announced

Yup
NCAA clearing house,Visa situation etc. some of the visas can take quite a bit of time. She is still expected to be on the team this coming season.
There have been many international players over last few years that didn’t get announced until July/August time.

From what I've seen on video Anna Minaeva would definitely be a 5-star talent were she playing U.S. high school basketball this year and probably a McDonald's All-American. Noa Morro this year would be the equivalent of adding a 5-star talent to the roster but with much more experience.
So in my opinion, if Minaeva arrives for next season, it gives LSU ten 5-star players out of their top 10 players, meaning they're two deep with 5 stars at every position. Even when Lay or MK will move to point guard to rest Jada Williams, they still have a 5 star at the point.
Not a bad roster that Kim Mulkey has assembled for this season, especially given the recent transfer portal activity.
I believe if LSU can consistently hit the 3 ball this season, they could go all the way. MK is consistent from 3 as I believe Morro and Z will be. Lay, Jada Williams, Laila Reynolds, and Lola Lampley need to become more consistent, or at least several of those players.

Please WBB-gods, grant her admission and visa….we need her

Have we gotten any more new? I seen she started following Lola Lampley and Lelia Reynolds on Instagram.

Idk about that . What limited video of her that I’ve seen , looks like she has some skills no doubt but not sure how much she’ll contribute next year .
