Who would y’all prefer to have? Leah Smith or Oilivia Greaves?

Greaves has cleaner form and difficulty which will score higher if/when she hits, while Smith already has scores against the JO Code of Points so we know roughly already how she’ll score in college, despite having lower difficulty. Given the coaching patterns and philosophy of LSU, I think I’d rather have Greaves. We could use her on bars and beam, she could either drop down to a 1.5 or stay with the double (which could be easier than teaching smith the 1.5 when she has a sometimes under rotated full), and would be clean on floor for us

Smith would be here next year, greaves not for two years right? so I’d rather have smith/more years of overlap with this years sophomores and freshmen, but either would be great! Have you heard tigerbait that we might get one of them or just wishful thinking?

I haven't heard anything about Olivia but Leah is doing a lot of back door talking to different schools but I have no clue if she has been released from her NLI or not. Its a weird situation.

I would prefer Smith. Greaves does not look like what she used to. I know she has had the change of gym and has also grown quite a bit but I would rather have a solid L10 with a good track record at JO and without the elite injuries.

Anyway, I see Annie Beard has had shoulder surgery. Hope she heals up well before college.

This is correct. The university just has to fund them

So I saw where Webb won the Honda award. Kinda disappointed in that but not surprised. I really wanted Lexy Ramler to win, but I guess I should have known it would be the OK gymnast who won AA in the final meet. Sigh

I feel bad for the underclassman across NCAA. It takes those opportunities to compete away from them. I'm sure all schools will keep seniors in the lineups they had because well they came back. In LSU's case, I strongly feel like this hurts in some spots. I was hoping LSU would be able to upgrade beam next year. My gymnastics heart is so ready to see Dunne on beam. And Aleah is coming for all those spots. She steps in immediately as the best technically correct gymnast on the team. If healthy there will be no excuses for her not to be in at least three lineups, if not AA.

Well I’m glad they are from leadership perspective and team chemistry

That said I expect a couple of them won’t retain spots in that beam lineup. Finnegan and Dunne will probably break into it at some point

I hope they put the best routines out there even given the circumstances...

Yea, that's why I think it could go good or bad. I think you keep sarah in vault, bridget in beam, cause she's just so solid, Christina in beam, Reagan just needs to cheer from the sidelines, and Sami in bars.

hell, I actually think you could move Bridget to leadoff on beam and scrap Christina. I love her but her body just looks like it's barely holding on and she wasn't the same this past season. That said for Aleah, who knows what she comes in with injury wise. She is training pretty hard for olympics so she may need a break or adjustment time.

I think this isn’t great...they don’t have the consistency, and never have. My guess is that it’s Gunter who is the one of the six not coming back (and Gracen, since Caitlin is taking her manager spot). I honestly don’t see a place for Reagan if she is still injury-plagued as she was this year. Desiderio should only be on beam, Sami only on bars, and edwards only on vault (I don’t mind her floor but it was lack of depth that put her so far down the lineup this year). I do appreciate deans beam and love the consistency she gave us this year, but if there are better beam options next year without as many built-in form deductions...then we should go with that.

I think Aleah is a safe bet to do 3 events year 1, like her sister before moving into AA but it wouldn’t shock me either way.

Floor is gonna be brutal to make with Kai coming back and the freshmen class coming in

That said floor and vault are the least of my concerns. The #1 goals this off season are to address bars and beam.

Not sure if you have instagram but Gunter announced almost at the beginning of the season that she wasn’t planning on coming back next year given that she already had other opportunities lined up for her career she wanted to jump on right away, especially with her second instagram account taking off (where she leads quick and easy at home full body workouts, preaches about body positivity etc.). Also, given that Gracen was a walk on who never competed and retired after her freshman year, she was never planning on returning to compete. As for her manager position, I know Kirby will be back next year since she’s not done with graduate school yet and I’m not sure what Edney’s plans are so it’s quite possible that she could be staying on as a manager depending on how many additional hands are needed. As for the beam lineup, given her consistency all year long, even with some of her form issues, I’d rather take Dean over Desiderio, since I can trust that she’ll hit every time. Form issues can be worked on and improved much more easily than the consistency and the mental game. If you don’t have it by your fifth year competing that event, I doubt it’ll come. I see Campbell competing next year, but not every week. She did well for us in the high pressure situations in post season but it may be wise to rest her more than she competes so that her back stays in one piece by nationals. If an underclassman or someone dealing with nagging injuries needs a break, then let her compete. Otherwise, let her be a great team leader and help Bugs coach beam

I just want to get rid of all the rotating leaps, that’s the only thing on my Christmas list

I did see about Gunter - Jay mentioned 5 seniors returning but there were seven including gracen. I don’t think Reagan did well in pressure sets at the end of the year in either regionals or nationals. In fact, I think the one thing that is true about her is that if there is a falter before her in the lineup then most times she too will have a large break. That was difficult this year with Kiya being so off early in the season. I think maybe being the anchor is too stressful? And I am with you tigerbait - take out all rotating leaps!

According to ncaa eligibility rules, gracen doesn’t not count towards our senior count and we only have six seniors since she is not on the roster and has not been since her freshman year. Only those on the roster count towards the team with regards to our numbers and eligibility for next year, hence why only two were recognized by the NCAA last year and Kirby did not. Doesn’t make any sense since she’s there but she’s not technically part of the competing or travelling team as a manager so we only have six seniors.

Reagan hit a 9.925 for us on both days a regionals so I would say she did well under pressure there. At SEC Champs, she had a slight balance break on her full turn, and a baby hop on the landing, but it was a solidly hit routine. If we change her beam mount, I see those minor issues going away. At nationals, she had similar issues plus a balance check after the series. At the end of the day though, it came down to the judges and while yes it wasn’t the score we needed to get into the finals (and I think it could’ve been a smidge higher), the issues at the beginning of the lineup with Desiderio not hitting and Shchennikova’s beam having pretty much everything go wrong but an actual fall, costed us. There was only so much Campbell could do at that point with two shaky routines in front of her

I hope the seniors put out their best routine and that’s it! For example, Sami on Bars is a must! Sarah on Vault is a must etc.
