DC4LSU is correct - however, I think what is actually happening (maybe at LSU, but definitely elsewhere) is that 5th year superstars are getting a scholarship for the 5th year and taking it away from someone else (not putting a value judgment on that - just saying that is occurring in some instances). And you get it, right, because why wouldn’t you do everything you could for another year of Kiya - and this year, I think that Cammy probably took Lilly Lippeatt’s scholarship after she didn’t get medically cleared (or whatever happened). My point is, it’s absolutely true that the scholarship has to be one of the 12 for athletics (if it is, in fact, for athletics), but ignoring the fact that there is some scholarship jockeying (likely) going on across the country (in many sports) is disingenuous.

So if kiya came back for grad school, she could get an academic scholarship though right?
In the age of NIL this is not so important. There are ways to fill out a roster.

I would be surprised if most gymnasts made enough money off NIL to pay their way through a fifth year. My sense is that the opportunities are available very unevenly ie those like Livvy or Suni may be making a lot but there is probably a steep drop off earnings off the top 10 highest earners (who will probably be Olympians, etc).

True, but if that gymnast is Kiya Johnson they will find a willing NIL contributor.

More likely, I would say, they figure out a way to medical someone else. I could be wrong...but I think that's just part of the game with these covid years, especially in these small footprint sports.

Well Bama’s going to be stacked next year…

I saw where CGN has touted Bama to have a strong season with Markarri and Blanco coming back along with a stellar recruiting class. class. We'll see if that comes to fruition.

Didn’t their number 1 recruit quit gym? Or was she ‘24? Either way that sounds like a scholarship nightmare.
Also trinity won the Honda award for the 2nd year in a row. Love her but I wish anyone else had won. Kinda ready for this 5th year bs to be over.

If you’re talking about Whitney Bjerken, she was a walk on.

What site are you looking at for overall class rankings?

They had a top recruit switch commitment to UGA once Bama’s coaches changed but they’ll still be stacked. There are rumors Lauren Little (Bama rising sophomore) is in the transfer portal. I think she may have trained with Bryant in club.

The recruit you are referring to is Lily Smith. She switched her commitment to UGA when Dana Duckworth left Bama. Lauren Little did train with Haleigh at Everest.

I think that article vastly overstates the ability of Florida to overcome the loss of Trinity - especially if (as is, I think, likely) Leeanne defers to train for Paris.

Way to early is right because they say bama is replacing significant routines and actually they are not. They should really just wait and see how things shake out before they post this crap. It’s the same as preseason polls for fb…pointless.

Does Oklahoma have everyone coming back? If so, does next year really matter? They had a record breaking score and didnt even perform that well.

Reagan Smith announced a 5th year but haven't heard about anyone else.

Yeah I think just Ragan. People on twitter have said Jenna Dunn is definitely not coming back.
Their incoming freshmen group is great even if Fatta decides to defer. The next class is too. :(

I've just accepted that KJ knows how to recruit and bring out the best in whoever actually shows up. OU will always be a threat, even with 'weaker' recruiting rounds.
In other news, Kayla DiCello is deferring for a year to prepare for the Olympics.
