Grace Glenn got a 10 on beam in the lead off position and didn’t have a single leap that had any rotation to it. She did front arial to split leap and switch split-split leap combo. So much safer and less likely to result in wobbles/deductions. Why does DD cram so many difficult leaps that clearly don’t have to be in the routine for a 10 start value? It used to be a ton of switch split quarters and now she has moved on to the halfs. I just don’t get how everyone can see the horrible skill choices except, you know, the entire coaching staff.

Florida floor routines and UCLA floor routines are prime examples of why we need to step up our floor routines. They're a step behind the top teams in the country.

Well they have very good choreography that is fresh and unique to each gymnast. As much as I like ACK, her choreography in recent memory has gotten dramatically stale and repetitive. Each of our gymnasts do a lot of the same moves with weird side kick with flexed feet. There is absolutely zero creativity. Something needs to be done here next offseason.

As BigB0882 said in the other post, LSU is the only team in the country cranking out a full beam lineup doing all these difficult rotating leaps, its insane. Other teams have difficulty but they connect other skills to get bonus. Florida, OU, Utah and even UCLA at times are cranking big time beam scores because They don't do difficult elite level leap series, they do basic leaps and focus on hitting all their other skills. I would bet you Campbell, Desiderio, and Kiya could all score higher and be more consistent taking out the switch leap to the switch half.

I don't know if this will ever change, DD seems fixated on bonus and difficulty that leap gets (similar to double backs to end floor this year). You do not need leaps like that to start from a 10. I just don't see why you would put a skill or leap in a routine that you know the athlete clearly can't do for the sake of difficulty. Throwing difficulty at a routine isn't automatically going to make up for the execution errors.

If the girl with the scary routine for UCLA does a clean routine at natianals she's going to win floor and it wont be because of her difficulty. Her routine is just really different and stands out. I think we have a really solid base for next yr. But as you said we need alot of tweeking.

I wish we had a judge or someone that DD would listen to about the poor construction of beam and floor routines.Something needs to change or LSU will always be a day late and a dollar short. UTAH is coming on strong this year with some changes. I wonder if Jay would find a talented choreographer for beam and floor if DD ever decides to retire? Fans are frustrated this year and some recognize the need for change. It is difficult to change someone that is old school in coaching. Sad........

I only wish I had a million upvotes for your post!! YOU NAILED IT!!!
If some changes and fresh ideas are not made soon, I fear the attendance will start to decline, along with decline in recruiting.

You know gymnastics has arrived when the rant is questioning coaching decisions. LOL!

It is doubtful attendance is in jeopardy as Friday Night Heights has become an incredible and cheap night for the family and there is a steady wave of new young gymnasts who dream of one day being on the PMAC floor in front of a roaring crowd ( yes, the PMAC can be a loud and intimidating place for visiting teams despite the incessant basketball crowd complaints).

As for recruiting there are two monster classes coming in behind the current class which includes the top freshman in the country and several other high potential performers who will improve with experience. Unless there becomes a perception that gymnasts are not being developed and the staff has fallen behind top recruits will continue to sign wit LSU. Had they signed Trinity Thomas they would likely be close to the top ranking.

I don't know enough to opine heavily on routine structures, but have often wondered why LSU seems to have more swag than others who seem to just be bread and butter but done well and and not getting the small deductions the Tigers get. Hopefully the staff self scouts and evaluates as in other sports.

Its way too early to push the panic button on a program which has three runnersup finishes in four years. In an injury plagued and erratic start they are now fifth and less than .2 from third place in the rankings. It will be interesting to see how they finish if all of the injured are ready to roll in March. We coming and we aint backing down.

Eh I don't think the attendance is going to drop dramatically or anything. LSU recruits some pretty damn good athletes with great recruiting lining up over the next few years.

That said, if we continue to ignore faults with our routine construction, we will continue to probably be a dollar short when it comes to winning a national title. OU will continue to coast on watered down routines and get consistent high scores. The sky isn't falling whatsoever for LSU, they have the talent and resources to pull of a national title, the changes needed to get there are fixable. Question is, do DD and Jay actually make these changes?

First off, I am not a ranter and totally support our program and staff!! And in NO way meant to come across as negative to the girls or coaches.
In the last few pages there has been many posts criticizing the composition of routines on Floor and Beam by the staff especially. I like you, am not knowledgeable enough to even fully understand what said posts effects might mean fully. However as with any sport if the athletes are not coached in such a way to give them the best chance to win, they will not continue to excel. And in turn certainly CAN effect recruiting. I do not see that happening as yet and was simply basing my concern on what others on here that appear more knowledgeable than I have said in these regards.
Again I TOTALLY support all TIGER athletes and coaches.
But had O not changed there is no way we would be National Champs today!

I agree with your thoughts East Texas Tiger 99. We all recognize that LSU has talent and has brought in good gymnasts. Routines must be designed so the gymnast can perform with the least amount of deductions to get the 9.9+ range which wins a Natty. The statement of this needed change in no way takes away from our support of LSU Gymnastics. We all want to see this program come out on top.

I know we all want the same thing, that elusive national championship for DD and the program. I am sorry if it seemed directed at you, I was just making a tongue in cheek comment that gymnastics coaches have finally had enough success that any slippage results in commentary. Some are on point as they need to tweak whatever it is that keeps them coming up just a little short year after year.

Last year's runnerup score would have won 22 of the last 30 titles. Just need that one shining moment like occurred on the Friday session in 2017. It will happen, just keep knocking on that door.

Again my apologies if I offended you.

Edwards is the huge question. Will she be back this season? It’s unfortunate that her events are those most impactful on an ankle injury. I was hoping we would know something by now. Maybe they want to play it safe and save her for post season. Ease her in at SECs and go from there. I wonder if the double layout is an option now or she will have to go back to her previous tumbling.

DD talked a little about Sarah during Episode 8 of Inside LSU Gymnastics on Wednesday. She stated that Sarah still has some pain on landings but there is hope to get her back on floor and vault soon. She gave the impression that Kennedi may be back on bars this week.

I saw where Maggie Nichols has a sprained ankle and KJ is not certain when she will be able to return to competition.

Any last minute injury updates? Any words on if we'll see Edwards this week - I know DD was hopeful soon?

Why is Kai out today? If she's injured, is it serious? I hate to say it but this time is just not looking great this year with all these key people getting sidelined
