Sarah Edwards! Amazing floor routine! She has been very consistent with her floor routine in recent years! Her routine was different tonight…did anyone else notice that? It was amazing and I loved it!
And listen…we’ve got what it takes! We’ve got some lower team scores banked than we would like, but many of those lower ones occurred without our best lineups!
I agree 100% that we’ve got to see our bars and beam move out of the 9.8’s to make it happen! We’ve got to find those extra .05 and .10 points! Those really add up and make the difference.
And finally…KJ’s stellar vault! I was so disappointed in her score. I feel as though the judges penalize the 9.95 sv vaults just because they aren’t as “difficult.” However, the .05 off the top should be the only thing taken because it’s not as difficult. One judge went 9.80 for KJ! 1.5 in deduction…because there was legit a form issue somewhere…or because they “penalize” the “easier” vaults?! This is a true question! I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

I do not believe 197.625 is 3 steps back by any means! Excellent score on a night with shakes and bobbles. Only a top caliber team can score this high on a “mediocre” night.
Great job, girls! You are all amazing!!

If Sarah Edwards truly cannot come back this season, will she be eligible to claim this as a redshirt year? Anyone know the rules for a medical redshirt season?
With how amazing our team is looking in the future, having her two more years would enhance that even more! A blessing in disguise perhaps??

Honestly, everything that went down and the drama behind Sami’s former team being u invited from performing back at a UGA meet really threw me. I listened to a podcast in which CKC was asked specifically about this occurrence. Her response went something to the tune of: if they were to return to perform for us, we would have to have some serious discussions and understanding on what is expected of them and cheering for the opposing team is unacceptable. I’m of course paraphrasing that bc I listened to her interview a year or so ago.
I watched the video of this supposed “cheering for the other team,” and it was children chanting “Sami, Sami, Sami” bc she was their former teammate.
It disappoints me on all levels. Cheering on others should be encouraged in a healthy environment. I know at LSU gym meets, I clap for ALL performances...but maybe just a little louder for LSU ??. When Alabama defeated us this year I stood to cheer for them at the end. That in no way changes my loyalty to LSU. I was proud to see our LSU girls themselves raise their hands high up to clap for Alabama even though they had just been defeated by them.
It just doesn’t sound like a healthy and positive environment is being fostered at UGA. Perhaps we’ll get the whole story once those affected are finished with the program, but until then, I wish them all the best and will cheer them along the way too. ??

I honestly think it comes down to the off season. What you do in the off season is often more important than what you do during the season. A question that I think these girls should be asking one another as soon as the season ends is, “What is one thing we can each do in the off season to come back stronger next season?”
For some the answer to that is unfortunately surgery and the resulting recovery. For some the answer is rest and recover. For others the answer is to prepare mentally and seek improvement there. But for others that can, the answer is to get into the gym and work on things. No you can’t go as hard as during season and no you can’t have your coaches working with you, but working on little things in the gym will go a long way.
I love Joe Burrow’s work ethic during the off season. I’ll bet if we asked Oklahoma what their off season looks like, we’d see a lot of hard work behind it. I’ll bet Florida did the same with their motivation not to be left behind at nationals this year.
This could be as simple as working flexibility while resting other areas. Maybe working on leaps to improve them or working a toe point or working stick drills. Whatever it takes...work those problem passes so they never lose their readiness! Come back in September for practice in shape for season.
Our most successful teams have had strong upper class leaders who have taken the charge on things like this. I believe I remember DD mention Sydney Ewing’s leadership in the off-season to challenge everyone to keep conditioning strong and keep nutrition top notch. It paid off majorly!
We certainly are not lacking in talent from last year. Our talent level is the same! Even with the injuries we have, we should be seeing some cleaner and better things.
That being said, I still believe whole heartedly in this team! They have a lot of fight in them and there is still plenty of time. We’ve got 2 meets this weekend to put up 2 strong scores. It is by no means over! They’ve got this! My confidence and faith is in them! Go crush it girls...we are all behind you!

Question of observation...
I rewatched the LSU v Florida meet and my heart broke watching Sarah Edwards get injured all over again. I know DD came over to see her, but is there some kind of rule preventing any teammates from coming to the side of an injured teammate? I know they don’t want to be in the way of the medical personnel, but surely one person to be a hand to hold and a comfort. The hardest part to watch was seeing her sitting there all by herself as they pulled and poked at her ankle. It looked like she was in a lot of pain and could have just used the presence of a friend/coach.
Anyone have any insight on the protocol for these kinds of things? I can’t imagine being her parents and watching her sitting there like that. :(

So I’m a numbers person! I’m also a school administrator which means that I am constantly looking at data and comparing/problem solving!
When I put my skills to work on our team, here is what I find!
The GREAT:
Vault!!! Average of first three meets for 2019 season was 49.075. Average of first three meets for 2020 season is 49.308. This puts us about .225 points ahead of this point last year! What a bright spot with more to come!
In taking the highest score on each apparatus throughout the first three weeks of the 2019 season and comparing it with our 2020 season, we have a higher score in everything except bars:
Vault 2019: 49.250 (week 3)
Vault 2020: 49.425 (week2)
Beam 2019: 49.325 (week 1)
Beam 2020: 49.575 (week 2)
Floor 2019: 49.350 (week 3)
Floor 2020: 49.375 (week3)
I’m looking forward to seeing our team put it all together. And when they do it’s going to surprise a lot of folks who have already written LSU off for the season! Only way to go from here is UP!
Next week at Florida will be big for us! Praying our girls are ready to go mentally and physically next week! I can’t wait to watch them!

In my opinion, tonight was EXTREMELY promising! If you put together all of our highest scores from all 3 meets, you get 197.9! Once this team puts it all together, they’re going to crush it! Regan falling on beam was a fluke, and honestly I doubt Sami will have problems going forward. Better to have these struggles on the front end than at the end of the season. I was super bummed about our final score tonight because it in no way reflects what this team is capable of. I believe in this team and KNOW they will have an amazing story to tell come post season! ??
